While a TV signal cannot be and is not guaranteed, we have provided the TV and DVD player and a small library of movies for your viewing enjoyment. ****ABOUT THE HOME****

Our home was custom built by us in 2006. We have only recently finished the renovation to separate the first and second floors into separate units. The rental apartment is the full top floor (1200sq. ft.). It has one good sized bedroom, one (to die for) bathroom (according to guests), an open living, kitchen and dining floor plan and an outside deck to the West of the house with a view to the West and South.

****WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY BUT NOT ADA****

While our home is not handicapped accessible by ADA Guidelines, all doorways and the kitchen cabinet to cabinet clearance is 36 inches. If you need a wheelchair for general mobility but can stand to move to a commode and to wash up at the sink, you will be able to navigate the home. The shower in the bathroom has no curb. It has a slightly raised arch to keep water in the pan area but is easy to navigate for persons who cannot lift feet very high off the floor.

The home is heated with a radiant floor heat system throughout with hardwood floors in the living area.

The bathroom is custom tiled and has custom rock work on the shower floor, across the lavatory vanity, and around the jet tub. The rocks were collected from the beach here in Homer and we cut the large tiles to 'marry' with the edges of the rock work. It is really quite lovely.

The rocks are great for massaging your tired feet while you shower after a day of hiking, fishing and beach-combing! Or mayhap... a soak in the jet tub while taking in the view is just the thing to sooth a vacationing soul?

****SLEEPING ACCOMMODATIONS****

There is a queen sized memory foam bed in the bedroom (room for 2) and a large picture window with a view of the mountains and bay.

A queen hide-a-bed in the living room provides sleeping accommodations for 2 additional guests.

An additional 2 picture windows and a large window to the West provide a panoramic view from the living area.

I could go on and on but they only allow a certain number of words here and in the interest of time and not being too chatty I'll just say... really, you just have to experience it to appreciate it. We believe you will be very pleased indeed!

About Those Pesky Landlords and Guest Access to Property

We will make every effort to meet you in person when you arrive or as soon as we return if we are out on errands when you get here. Just in case we cannot be there to meet you or if you arrive after 6 PM, you will be provided with a combination for the door lock. These combinations are changed between every guest stay for your protection.

**** Your Privacy is Our Policy ****

We operate on the philosophy that you are coming to Alaska to relax and get away. To that end we try and be as unobtrusive as possible once you are checked in.

You have a private entry by way of the deck and the entire top floor is yours. Our home is on 5 acres at the very end of the street and you are welcome to go anywhere on the outside grounds you wish.

**** Things To Do In The Yard ****

*We hope to install a fire pit this summer and you are welcome to join us whenever we have a fire lit. Fires are always subject to any burn ban in effect at the time.

*We will also begin working on a system of short trails this summer and hope to have some of them them completed for the 2017 season.

*We are designing a few outside areas for horseshoes, a sand box area for the little ones, and possibly a couple small "Celtic Games" areas where you can practice boulder tossing and such. It is a work in progress and plans are always evolving and subject to change.

*We are working on flower gardens with a nice assortment of perennials and many indigenous berries, ferns and other flora.

*We have a small vegetable garden and as the veggies come to harvest time we will share what we have with our guests.

**** Where We Will Be ****

We do live in the downstairs suite, and are available whenever we are on the property should you need anything.

You will undoubtedly see one or both of us out in the yard from time to time doing chores, yard work, etc. If you do see us out and about in the yard please do come and say hi, and maybe have a cup of coffee a bit of tea.

****Studio TEN Cabin**** A Working Fused Glass Art Studio

I hope you will come and visit me (Tanya) in my Studio anytime I am in. It is located just below the house. Just knock before entering as I work with large sheets of glass and surprises that startle can lead to injury.

I will begin offering lessons in fused glass to guests in the spring of 2017.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The neighborhood is made up of a mix of retired couples and families with children from 2 years old to early teens. There is a mix of year-round and summer only (snow birds) residents on our street.

We are at the end of Newell Court. The road dead ends at our place so there is no through traffic past our house.

The property is treed with a mixture of white, black and blue spruce and alders. Blueberries, currants, high bush cranberries, lowbush cranberries, and watermelon berries can all be found in late August and September if growing conditions are just right.

On clear days from our deck and top floor of the house you can see 4 glaciers, nearly the entire bay. You can even see the spit in the distance. On really clear days you can see to the inlet and even see 2 of the volcanoes across the inlet.

**** Local Attractions ****

*The General Store

Fritz Creek General Store is located a short 3 minutes from our home. It is a one stop deli, grocery with movie rentals, Post Office, gas station and liquor store. The food is great and the people are awesome.

*The Homestead Restaurant

Just across the street from the general store is the Homestead Restaurant, a favorite fine dining establishment of travelers and locals alike!

For more entertainment, dining and recreation options, Homer is a short 15 minute drive.

*Local Transportation Options

To travel here you will need a car. If you are flying, cars can be rented at the airport or Adventure car rentals. We have never rented a car from either one so regretfully cannot give opinions on the quality or service of either.

Taxis do come out here, but that can get a bit expensive for anything other than a trip to town to pick up a rental car.

*Other Things to Do and See

Some Local Eating Establishments:

1. Homestead Restaurant, 8 mile East End Road (Fritz Creek) open for dinner

2. Fritz Creek General Store, 8 mile East End Road, Deli, desserts, fresh bread

& soups.

3. Wasabi's, about mile 3 East End Road, open for dinner.

4. The Bagel Shop at the corner of Kachemak Way and East End Road

5. Cosmic Kitchen, in town on Pioneer Ave., open breakfast, lunch and dinner.

6. K-Bay Caffe', open breakfast and lunch, local coffee roaster

7. Cafe Cups, on Pioneer Ave., open for dinner

8. Duncan House Diner, on Pioneer Ave, open breakfast and lunch

9. Alice's Champagne Palace, on Pioneer Ave, open lunch and dinner

10. Fat Olive's, on the Homer By-pass, open lunch and dinner

11. The Mermaid Cafe', Thai fare and open for lunch and dinner

There are many, many more restaurants and coffee shops in town in the summer.

*Fun on the Spit:

On your way to the spit, stop in at the Hallo Bay Bear Camp office (in the BIG building on the curve on Ocean Drive, and book a day trip to see the bears of Katmai! If you have a bit more time a got for a couple of nights! Be sure and tell them Tanya and Rick from Orca sent you.

The spit has a number of great places to eat, as well as oodles of shops that you can while away the hours in.

You can arrange for a fishing or sightseeing excursions by boat or sea taxi at any number of businesses on the spit.

Notes:
The living room has a new electric fire place for ambiance. It even provides a little extra heat if the days a a bit on the chilly side. We just ask that you only use it while you are awake. Electricity is VERY expensive here so we greatly appreciate you helping us conserve on energy! From time to time in the summer we may have a get-together in the yard (we usually have one on the 4th of July). We will let you know when we have one planned and you are always welcome to come and take part in the festivities!
