About the property

The modern Carriage House sleeps four comfortably. There is a queen Bed in the master and two singles in the second bedroom. A full stainless steal kitchen is ready for Gourmet meals with fresh BC fruit and vegetables bought from the farmers markets or sea food bought directly from the fisherman's boat. A wood burning stove in the living space is wonderful to cozy up to in the evenings and enjoy a glass of wine or a good book. A covered balcony over looking the beautiful property is the perfect place for your morning coffee and evening cocktail . Sitting on the deck down at the pond you may see an abundance of wildlife. Deer, fish, blue heron, bald headed eagles, mink, and numerous feather friends have been spotted many times. Certain times of the year the pond is nice to swimming in . If you are up for a challenging hike, the property backs onto a lush undisturbed forested area with a beautiful creek. You may be able to make the short hike up the stream to the small water fall, but you are going to get wet.

About Tara & Jamie

We relocated from Saskatchewan to the island just this past summer. We moved for our love of the great outdoors, oceans, forests, wildlife, and yes of course the mild winter climate, which was the last nudge that we needed. We purchased this property with the idea of sharing this beautiful Home and Island experience with others from all over the world. We sincerely hope that you love it as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

We are centrally located between Mill Bay and Shawnigan Lake only 3.1 km in either direction . If you look at the picture that was provided from the air you will notice the lush and pleantyiful forest all around us and the ocean on one side and the lake on the other all within 5 mins from the house.

Your carriage house is an absolute must see! My friends and I spent a long weekend in this suit and it was absolutely perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed, there was plenty of linen and then entire place was spotless. Have a memotioned the yard yet? Not only is the suit itself beautiful but the yard surrounding is stunning. There's a large deck off the front where you can sit with your morning coffee and take in the view. We also took full advantage of the hot tub outside below the suit, it was the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine and look at the stars.

Another excellent feature is that this property is so close to so much. The quary, train tressel, multiple hikes, shops, restaurants etc. You will never run out of things to do. Tara and Jamie were great to deal with and were happy to give recommendatons and directions anytime we asked.

We will definitely be coming back again!

Beautiful, modern, cozy little carriage house

Clean and comfortable carriage house on an acreage on Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd. A short drive to Mill Bay, Kerry Park, and the Trans Canada Highway. About a 5 min drive into Shawnigan Lake. Plenty of parking and easy access.

Fantastic relaxing holiday

This property has everything you need. It’s clean and very well maintained. It is set in beautiful grounds that you are free to explore at your leisure and there are some woodland walks close by and an abundance of wildlife to admire. Tara and Jamie are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble any problems however small are dealt with immediately. You are about a 5 min drive from the Mill Bay Centre and 20mins from Duncan. We stayed for three weeks could of stayed for three months. definitely recommend

A relaxing home away from home

We loved our month long stay at the Carriage House. We arrived to an immaculately clean home that had been thoughtfully prepared for our family. They even erected a baby gate at the top of the stairs for our toddler. There's so much to enjoy here and just relax; hike down to the creek, play on the rope swing, bbq, hot tub, watch the horses, deer & squirrels. And although we were here in summer I can imagine it would be wonderful in the winter as well with the fireplace going! Tara, Jamie & family are very respectful of privacy but if anything was needed they were quick to respond & help out with.

The location is fantastic. It's rural, but close to some nice wineries, the Mill Bay marina, shops & restaurants (Bridgemans Bistro is great). But theres great walks & hiking at your doorstep as well.

We'd love the opportunity to stay here again in the future. Thanks for a great home for our family holiday!

Delightful & peaceful retreat

The Carriage House is a wonderful place to stay. It is charming, comfortable, well-equipped and impeccably clean. The location is great, providing easy access to the some of the most beautiful places in Canada. Tara & Jamie are gracious hosts. Their property is lovely and family friendly. We highly recommend this vacation rental!

Well maintained, clean, and comfortable property!

This was a nice relaxing getaway for my 2 little girls, husband and myself.

Pros: very clean, nice property, well located to explore Vancouver island towns, hot

Tub, air conditioner, nice patio.

Cons: Not much provided (oil, hand soap, laundry detergent, did not lend butter when we asked), very squeaky bed.

Overall I would probably stay again but make note that unlike previous reviewers who said the kitchen was very well stocked and there were farm fresh eggs, we did not find this to be true but in fact found very little was provided when compared to other vacation rentals. We found one bar of soap when we arrived and had to request another so we weren't running it from the bath to the kitchen to the bathroom sink. Just remember you should bring everything you plan on using for the kitchen, bath or laundry or plan on buying it. This is a very clean and well maintained rental so that is the trade off! For me, being told we could not have the empty oil bottle filled because it's not provided and having to run to the store for little things was a bit of an annoyance and affected the feeling of hospitality. Asides from this, we did truly enjoy our time.

We wish that you would have told us about the squeaky bed so that we could have fixed it for you. We like to fix these problems immediately in order to make the rental as comfortable as possible. I hope the two extra bars of soap that we gave you were sufficient. The bathroom is stocked with a large bar for the tub and a bottle of pump soap at the sink. The kitchen has dish soap. Please don't rely solely on reviews to determine what we provide, we have put countless hours into our property description and it is accurate. We love helping out our guests when able and are very close by, however we are shift workers and unfortunately can not always help out early in the morning. We hope you have a great summer. Take care.

Incredible natural beauty of the island is breath taking. You may want to stroll through a number of beautiful communities to visit the plentiful cultural art exhibits. Most communites offer extensive hiking, and biking trails, and numerous water sports attractions, fantastic restaurants, or award winning wineries.

For the more adventurous people there is bungi jumping and zip linning close to Nanaimo and Victoria. For the real adventurous there is cliff jumping in Sooke.

Chemainus is famous for its town murals and live theatre.

Botanical Gardens are appox 30 Mins from house.
