About this property

Renovated 1832 Colonial Farmhouse - Swimming Pool | Hudson River Valley

Newly renovated, this 1832 Georgian Colonial farm house nestled on 18 acres in Taghkanic, NY and conveniently located in the Hudson River Valley with towns like Hudson, Great Barrington, Hillsdale, Millerton, Tivoli and Rhinebeck nearby.

Our home is situated off the road up on a hill above a pond and small stream. The new kitchen includes custom shaker cabinets, soapstone countertops and all new Thermador appliances. The dining room features a custom farm table made with reclaimed barn wood over 100 years old, has exposed wood beam ceilings and a large brick fireplace. The living room is beautifully furnished with a large comfortable down sofa and two leather chairs.

There are three bedrooms, two furnished with queen sized Westin Heavenly beds. The master bedroom includes a kingsize bed and ensuite full bathroom. A second full bath is upstairs and half bath down. RH stone washed linens for all beds.

A short walk uphill from the house you will find a 200 year old post and beam barn – a great spot for summer bathing in the swimming pool or evening drink by the poolside fire pit. In the winter it’s a great location to sled from! We also have a large fire pit with 8 Adirondack chairs directly behind the house – a great place for roasting marshmallows and making ‘smores.

Hike along the mile long trail behind the house and catch beautiful sunsets looking out over the Catskills.

From this location you are just minutes from Hillsdale, NY, scenic hiking in the Berkshires, antique stores, local artisan shops, seasonal farm stands, and fine dining in local farm to table restaurants. There are also a number of great farms for shopping! A highlight of local attractions in include Copake Country Club at Copake Lake, Bash Bish Falls, the Harlem River Rail Trail, Taghkanic State Park, New Forge State Park, The Hill Rock distillery, and performances at Bard College, Jacob’s Pillow, Tanglewood, and Williamstown Theatre.

Country perfection
We had such an amazing end-of-the-summer stay at Ed and Kristopher's house, which, apart from its quiet country charm, is one of the most well-appointed houses we've ever stayed in. The kitchen was a dream for my wife to cook in, and the house had everything else we needed. It definitely lives up to the gorgeous pictures! Our kids had so much fun in the pristine pool and roasting marshmallows by the campfire, and hiking through the woods behind the house to watch the sunset over the Catskills was a highlight. Thank you for a wonderful trip!

Rustic Elegance
My family and I had a wonderful time at this home. It is exactly as pictured. The home has been artfully restored. There are rustic elements...the beamed ceiling in the kitchen/dining room and elegant accents....the overall decoration and the pool design! Overall the home was very comfortable. The kitchen is functional. The best part of this house is the setting and the pool. Very relaxing.....we appreciated no T.V.! We would definitely stay here again. It was a nice home base as we explored the Hudson Valley.

Why they chose this property

We've been traveling to the Hudson River Valley since 2000, convincing the parents to purchase a home on Copake Lake. We looked at homes from time to time but nothing really spoke to us until 2010 when we stumbled across this old house and piece of land (thanks to some friends or ours). We had been looking for an old farmhouse with more than just an acre or two of land... this ticked the box. Over the years we've done much of the work ourselves and much of it outside. We love summer upstate and of course the outdoors. This explains why we installed a pool summer 2014! The landscape is quite beautiful and the house sits just perfectly on this land.
