About this property

Wolfhound Cottage - Dogs welcome!

Wolfhound Cottage, a beautifully built post & beam cottage, sits at the end of a dirt road surrounded by moss-covered boulders and tall, wind blown, spruce trees - the classic Maine forest. A 110 acre, nature preserve is right next door providing ample walking trails. A short stroll (about 200 yards) through the woods brings you to the beach, a mix of sand, large boulders and rocky areas. The interior of this privately situated cottage is open and spacious with hardwood floors and rough-hewn ceilings, giving the entire space an elegant but earthy feel. Colorful hanging buoys and oriental rugs adorn the interior. Enjoy the deck to take in the fresh, clean air and watch the birds or just relax. Wolfhound does not disappoint. One bedroom upstairs is situated to accommodate 3 with a king size bed and a twin bed separated by s screen. A fenced-in yard offers ample space for your dog. Even with Wolfhound sitting so close to the beach, due to tree growth the views are not seen from the second story. Important: Please be aware that the well water has intermittent salt water intrusion. While there are filters, a salty residue can sometimes be present in the water. As such, the owners provide ample bottled water for drinking and cooking. The water is safe and satisfactory for showering and dishwashing.

Cozy cottage
We enjoyed the house itself and the location. We never saw the owners, though it seemed we were looking into their home. We love dogs but would have appreciated it if the owner stopped them from barking. A few times the wolfhounds came right up to our door, which we loved, but anyone who doesn't like dogs might have been intimidated. They are both shy, I got one to come up and sniff my hand by turning my body and getting low, but the other just barked at us. The cottage had most everything you might need (citrus squeezer and garlic press would be nice). It was clean, but could use a deeper clean sometime - the flatware drawers were not so clean and the rug needed vacuuming. The instructions say to do your dishes and put them away, but the dishwasher does not work well - everything needed to be thoroughly rinsed prior to going in the dishwasher. There is no view from the cottage itself, except from the upstairs bedroom window. The walk to the beach is easy and the beach is awesome! A great place to launch kayaks at any tide. Yes, you should know what you are doing if you are going to kayak in Penobscot bay, but if you do, it is a fabulous place to kayak. Owners had very nicely left the light on as we arrived late, but it meant there were a LOT of bugs around the door, and they were getting in thru a rip in the screen to the deck - we put some tape over it. Fire pit on deck was awesome. Upstairs bedroom is very roomy and comfy - it is very cozy to have two twins in there, you would have to be very comfortable in close quarters. We used the pull our couch which had a better than normal mattress on it. Bathroom was great. We had a great week and enjoyed ourselves very much.
