After sailing in the Caribbean for more than 20 years, we knew we had found 'home' when we anchored for the first time in Hope Town harbor. When Sea Leggs (and the Sail Loft apartment) came up for sale, we jumped on it and couldn't be happier. Barry is retired from 36 years as Director of Music at the U.S. Naval Academy. We love living in the tranquil beauty of Hope Town settlement where we can walk to the beach, the sea, the coffee shop, groceries, restaurants ... just about everywhere. We particularly enjoy strolling to the Sugar Shack after dinner for an ice cream cone.
My husband and I stayed at The Sail Loft while celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. The unit has a delightful view of the Sea of Abaco at one end, and a little deck off the other end, overlooking the property yard, complete with picnic table, hammock. The Sail Loft is conveniently located and allows for an easy walk to town, to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean and a nice place to sit and watch the water traffic on the Sea of Abaco side. The owners are wonderful hosts, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Hopetown and all it has to offer. Before we left, we booked 3 weeks next year!
It was a beautiful stay in a clean, charming and bright home. It has a great location and a great view of the Sea. The ocean is a 5 minute walk and you can hear it as you fall asleep. Hosts Marcia and Barry go above and beyond to make you comfortable and meet every need. Surrounded by the sea and the ocean it holds mind clearing powers. It was great to have my coffee every morning on the cute balcony off of the bedroom and overlooking the sea.The most refreshing swimming I have ever experienced. Elbow Cay and Sail Loft was exactly what I needed. A sweet walkable town, I would definitely rent a golf cart and explore...go to Tahiti Beach. It is not crowded with people and the colors of the water are amazing. It is where the sea and ocean meet. Try the restaurant's at the South end, the Sea Spray is more laid back and the people were so friendly. The Firefly is a must for it's location and views are spectacular. The food is very good. The Abaco Inn was also a good one. There is a more modern grocery store with more choices located right near the Sweet Shop on the road to South end. Hope town also had good restaurants and you can walk to them easily. Be sure to visit the Light house it is worth it although access to get there is a bit of a challenge.I highly recommend a stay on Elbow Cay and the Sail Loft if you are looking for a laid back and slow paced vacation. Being a pet lover it was great to get my kitty fix when the neighbors cat stopped by to say hi too. Would love to go back some day. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home Marcia and Barry!!!!
We stayed here two weeks and had a wonderful time! My first impression was that it's a really large open space and has a nice flow from the living room to the bedroom. The kitchen had great counter space to prepare meals and was well stocked with cooking supplies. The bedroom was roomy and we loved the balcony overlooking the lighthouse and harbor entrance. Just down the steps there is a short path to the beach and it's a short walk to grocery stores and the harbor. Although there are tons of books and movies to choose from, we were interested in a specific genre and Marcia went to the library the next morning and brought us three movies immediately, she really went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. Everything was provided to make sure we had an enjoyable stay, even a lantern for walking at night. It was also super clean which we appreciated. Thank you!
The place was lovely and clean. The kitchen is a little tight and appliances could be updated but overall we loved it. Marcia was extremely helpful providing advice and Ira was always in hand should we have needed him.
This was our first trip to the Bahamas and it could not have been more delightful. The location on the north end of the old village was very convenient, surrounded with local charm. We made excellent use of the bicycles provided to explore and enjoy. Marcia was very helpful with our pre-trip planning and with a few points of local knowledge that came up along the way - alas, due to a snag in our travel we didn't get to meet our hosts as planned, hopefully next time.
The accommodations were exactly what we were looking for! The Sail Loft is actually a little bigger than the pictures make it look. The location is very convenient and the owners are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend staying at the Sail Loft!!
