About Ann Merry

I was born in Atlanta as was most of my family and enjoyed the 'big city' for many years but North Georgia and its rivers and mountains were always an important part of my childhood and youth as my family loved rivers, canoeing and kayaking. We spent much time in the mountains and the rivers. I guess that's why I have finally moved here to North Georgia to live and have enjoyed this area for many years. That's me and Eva in the picture at the River! I think she's going to be a natural paddler and she already loves the water!

Ann Merry purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Ann Merry chose Mineral Bluff

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in 1980 my husband and I decided to take a drive to the North Georgia mountains and ended up having a lovely picnic on the banks of the Toccoa River. We fell in love with the area and the next week went back and bought the land where we had our lovely picnic that afternoon. We camped on the property for many years and my family has had, and continue to have, many wonderful memories in this amazing place. In 1997 Merry Rose Cottage was built. I named her Merry Rose after my dear mother Mary Rose.

What makes this cottage unique

Merry Rose Cottage is a magical place that will always be part of me and my family and we are pleased that others are enjoying it now as well. There are so many things to do all around the cottage; of course the River is the best part to me but there are so many activities close by even though you feel totally away from everything when you're at the cottage. We are also located within an easy drive to many wonderful wineries and wine tasting venues that you will love. There's hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, zip lining, lake activities on Lake Blue Ridge, golf, tennis; just about everything! Of course the cottage is just wonderful to enjoy staying in and experiencing the the peace and quiet! ( Along cooking some delicious and cozy dinners on the river!

Very secluded and private. Definitely a relaxing romantic getaway but, if you want more...there's hiking, whitewater rafting (Ocoee & Nantahala Rivers), horseback riding, zip lines, community theater, special name it we have it and not too far away! And when you get back to the Cottage you can just relax and enjoy a great meal and/or go jump in the river or the hot tub....or both!! There is so much to do in this area. Blue Ridge has become the little town everyone wants to visit. Beautiful shops, restaurants, arts, community theater; just about anything you want to do is available. Check my reviews for details of other events or activities my guests have found to be fun!

Love love love!!!

We had a fantastic time here!!!!! My boyfriend surprised me with this trip after i finished my finals and it was the most amazing time ever!!!! We’re always looking for dog friendly/secluded getaways and this was exactly that!!!!! Ann is soooo sweet and even let us check in a few hours early because we got hit with the snow! She also had a bunch of firewood set out for us on the front deck which was amazing because a lot of the wood outside was soaked from the rain/snow so there was no way we could dry the wood.. We also LOVED the heated bathroom fan!!!!!!

I almost don’t want to leave such a positive review so we can keep this place to ourselves haha! Another great thing was that we had EVERYTHING we needed and more!!! Stuff you wouldn’t even think to bring on a trip, Ann already had it there!!! She even had a bunch of games!!!!

Her home is absolutely lovely and we will be back for another trip!! Being on the river also made for plenty of relaxing moments with our pup! I’m so so happy with everything! I’m already planning our next trip back!!! Thanks again Ann!!!

PS: we had absolutely zero complaints! Ann has pretty much thought of everything possible!!!! And plus we didn’t run into anyone which was great!!!!

Thanks again for such a lovely stay!!!

Owner's Response: Dear Jane & Ray & Abel, of course, I am speechless! But not quite! Your wonderful note came with such good timing today and was appreciated and I'm so glad you two were so clearly set on getting here before (or after!) the snow. I am thankful you both persevered and didn't let me talk you out of coming. It was probably the prettiest snow I've ever seen here and I can't think of any two people that could have enjoyed it any more than you two (or three) did and I would "love love love" to have you visit Merry Rose again any time. Just let me know and she will be all ready for you. Thank you again for your sweet and thoughtful review. Ann

A great getaway

  • 5 of 5

I rented the cabin for my girlfriend's birthday, as we really needed to get away, and she wanted a place that she could just be next to running water all day. She got that. First thing, the drive in from Atlanta was beautiful, the mountains and trees just made it a great drive up. Getting there was easy. Once we arrived we found a wonderful cabin, with a great river right next to it. My girlfriend definitely got what she was wanting. At anytime we could open the door and listen to the water flow over the rocks and let that sound just relax us. Sadly the weather wasn't as cooperative, it was cold and rainy for the majority of the time but we still had plenty to do, and the hot tub was even more enjoyable in the colder weather.

We had an amazing time just relaxing next to the river all weekend, were sad to leave, but definitely can't wait to come back, hopefully with more cooperative weather.

Absolutely PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

Let me say from the moment we stepped inside we felt at home. This was one of the coziest places I'd ever been. Beautifully decorated on the inside with everything you could possibly need. The big chair in the living room was so comfortable, along with the master bed! It was hard getting up in the morning. And the linens smelled of maybe lavender that was so pleasant. I can't forget the heated fan in the beautiful bathroom, along with the double shower head! We enjoyed the hot tub on the chilly nights. We looked forward to returning from the adventures of the day to relax by the water with cocktail in the evening. We had the opportunity to wade out in the river and catch some trout too!! If you want to fish with a guide, I highly recommend Bob with Reel Angling Adventures. He was awesome!! No need to look any further for a place to stay. I promise you will be glad you chose Merry Rose Cottage. We can't wait to return!

I decided for our 1st Wedding Anniversary, I would surprise my wife with a quiet retreat up to the Blueridge area for some R&R and fun with our fur-babies away from all the hustle and bustle of Atlanta — and to put it lightly: Merry Rose Cottage fulfilled everything we were looking for and more!

Located about 2.5 hours north of Atlanta, using the directions that Ann gave for the GPS, the drive was simple and straight forward to get the cottage. One note of some “bouncy” pot-holes once you get on some of the dirt roads leading to the cottage - but it’s all part of the journey.

The cottage itself is as quaint and lovely as it is warm and accommodating! Ann has done an outstanding job of decorating and filling the space with functional and inviting amenities — it felt like we had lived there, and it was hard to let it go. We were spoiled to have the 2-bedroom house to ourselves, but because the cottage would work perfectly for 4 people as well, we are already planning on a couples retreat soon.

As if the home itself isn’t enough, a slight glance out of the large windows and french doors to the backyard reveals the “real show” — THE RIVER!! Wow, though the photos do some justice, to be able to walk out off of the back porch onto the dock overlooking the flowing waters and experience the sights, sounds and surroundings of the river rising and falling throughout the day is the experience that made the entire trip into an unforgettable memory! This is one of those scenes that makes you want to sit and sip coffee (or beer) and casually contemplate prose to the likes of Walden — a true escape!

We brought along our 2 pups (lab mixes), so that they could enjoy the big open spaces and play on the banks of the river to their hearts’ content. Our one dog that is a relentless swimmer was a little weary of the moving current, but when the water level was lower, she had no fear of splashing and wading in the stream.

Ann was very accommodating, helpful, and accessible for anything that we needed, and she really made us feel welcome and right at home throughout our stay. VRBO needs more proprietors like Ann!

All-in-all, this was one of the best trips that my wife and I have had together — we needed a get away from the “real world” for a minute, and Merry Rose Cottage certainly delivered!

Thank you, Ann, for the exceptional hospitality and for letting us experience your charming, rejuvenating slice of paradise!

what a cute place!! my husband and son went fly fishing several days( watch out for the rising water) and i sat on the deck and chilled. Beautiful river. The house was equipped with everything you could need - even puppy towels. Ann was so helpful with everything. Road is a little tough the last half a mile - a small car would have trouble, but we had a truck and no problems. Had planned to go into Blue Ridge shopping but I was totally happy just sitting watching the river. Cant wait to go back!!
