About this property

Character cottage (18c) on the edge of historic Belper

This charming 2 bedroom stone cottage was built circa 1790 and retains many original features. The ground floor comprises 2 spacious living rooms (4m x 4m). Adjacent to the kitchen is a lounge with log burner and the other is a lounge/dining room with the TV/DVD. The cottage is very close to the historic cotton mill / museum and river gardens within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site. Belper's award winning high street is a 15 minute walk away and just down the road is the Talbot (17c) restaurant / bar and the Tum Yum Thai Restaurant (basement of the early 19c North Mill) just over the bridge and mill weir. Walks from the river lead up to the Chevin overlooking Belper in one direction and the river gardens and nature reserve in the other.
The Derbyshire Dales and Peak District are a short drive away; local attractions are Cromford (Arkwright’s Mill museum, canal walks, etc.), Arkwright’s Masson Mill (discount shopping), Matlock Bath (cable car, gardens, etc.), Middleton Top (High Peak Trail) and a multitude of beautiful villages and walks.
The city of Derby with its Cathedral, Silk Mill, railway Round House and shopping areas, both ancient and modern, is 9 miles to the south. If you like a little more action Alton Towers is just 20 miles away - 35min drive.

Lovely Belper cottage
The cottage was exactly as advertised in the listing. It is in a great location very close to the river walk and a short walk to downtown Belper.

Lovely stay
Great cottage, in a lovely town, with great walks. The cottage itself came fully stocked with everything you could need, including shampoo and shower wash, kitchen was also stocked up with tea and coffee, and fresh milk in the fridge, and all the appliances you could need. We were pleasantly surprised.

About the host

We bought and refurbished the cottage in 2015 as a retreat for family and friends but we are keen for it to be more widely used so we are making it available to others at a very reasonable rent.

Why they chose this property

We bought this cottage because of its great location, south facing garden, large rooms, log burner and character features.

What makes this property unique

Great location for visiting historic Belper on foot and the Derbyshire countryside by car or bus.
