On record as early as 1737 as a working malt house supplying malt to the local area, the property is full of character whilst benefiting from recent refurbishment. The focal point of the sitting room must be the inglenook fireplace and log burner for extra warmth after a busy day exploring. In warmer weather, guests can spend their evenings outside in the private courtyard garden or on the small lawn adjacent to the private gravelled parking area across the quiet road. There are three bedrooms, two double (with built-in wardrobes) and one single, ensuring that the cottage sleeps up to 5 guests in comfort. The bathroom upstairs has a bath, powerful “rainfall” shower, toilet, hand basin, large heated towel rail and illuminated mirror.

Private off-road parking is available for two vehicles on the gravelled area opposite the side entrance to the property (across the quiet single-track road).

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of 2) for a supplementary fee of £15 per dog. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture or upstairs and do not leave them alone in the property at any time. Bookings with 3 dogs will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size/breeds of the dogs and the duration of your stay, please get in touch to ask and we can check with the owner for you. Sorry no cats in this property.

Escape the rat race
It is a very cosy , good sized cottage situated in a lovely quiet hamlet with a choice of country walks from the door. It was convenient for exploring the coast and moors and other places of interest. We enjoyed our stay but the courtyard area really needs updating

Special Birthday
The Old Malthouse had everything you could ask for. Having the woodburner a light made it even more special. The Notley Arms is a must for food and drink. You will need to phone to make sure they are open, but it is worth the wait. Would I book the cottage again......YES I WOULD.

Lovely building and nice place to stay. Surroundings lovely and peaceful. The cleanliness was not great, kitchen looked clean but on closer inspection was dirty for example i used a wipe to wipe the kitchen top and it was a dirty brown colour, the kettle had not been emptied and there was a puddle of water in the bottom of the fridge. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. Having said all of this once we had cleaned the kitchen, we had a lovely holiday and the beds were comfortable.

Our stay was for 8 days in November which we enjoyed immensely. Cottage was clean and warm. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Did have to pull the shower door in an inch or two so water dripped into the bathtub instead of under the seal and onto the floor. Nice quiet location – we all slept well. The Notley Arms pub was just a short walk away where we enjoyed a few pints. The atmosphere was great and the staff friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Had a great Christmas, the cottage was lovely, clean and very well equipped with everything you needed. The location was ideal as my husband had just came out of hospital, and the local Notley arms pub/restaurant was 2 minutes walk away, such a lovely little village. Will definitely be rebooking, as will our daughters family who was also with us. So close to lots of attractions.

The village of Monksilver sits on the edge of the Brendon Hills and the Exmoor National Park and is also close to the coast. There is plenty to do for walkers, tourists and families alike.

Why not visit Cleeve Abbey (2.7 miles), the historic house of Coombe Sydenham (0.25 miles), or Dunster Castle and its historic village (7.9 miles). You could plan a ride on the West Somerset Steam Railway ….. or visit Europe’s first International dark sky reserve at the Stargazing Dark Sky Reserve.

With such a wonderful natural environment this is also a great place for enjoying the great outdoors!

There are many beaches in the area where visitors may enjoy swimming, kite flying, windsurfing, or simply relaxing with a bucket and spade. Exmoor National Park also hosts the Exmoor Cycle Route and Exmoor Forest which is a former royal hunting ground, where horse riders can experience some of the best riding in the country.
