I am Cathey Lopez-Sandler,from Berkeley,CA. I have lived in Oaxaca for 12 years-by way of Guatemala-12 years, Europe-3years. I am passionate
about Precolumbian history, native plants & Mexican Art. I am inspired
in my own ceramic sculpture, by Mexican themes, especially Cacti!
Mimi Haberfeld purchased this apartment in 2004
I purchased this adobe farm house, remodeled it & have enjoyed it, for its
proximity to Centro.Without the noise of the city, the house is located
in a working class Mexican neighborhood, yet an easy 15-20 minute walk straight to the Zocalo! The beautiful garden space has grown into a jungle,
all in pots!
The spectacular views from the upper deck is perfect for enjoying the 180 degree mountain and valley views!
This casita is beautiful. It is very clean, has everything you need to cook, wash clothes, and read. The patio is delightful and art is everywhere. The beds are comfy. We usually walked into the Centro and took a taxi back. Added bonus: Alejandro got us at 4am to take us to the airport!
Overall, this is a great place and I would totally recommend it.
This apartment is well appointed, clean, and full of amazing art objects. The patio was a great spot to relax during the evenings and the kitchen was nicely set up for cooking. The wi-fi worked well, the bed was comfortable, and the tiled master bathroom was nothing short of elegant. The apartment was very comfortable and rather spacious for just my husband and me, but I think the second double bedroom would be a little crowded for a another couple and the second bathroom is out on the patio. The third bedroom has two twin beds. Alejandro and Judith were very welcoming and helpful, and even though we didn't speak Spanish well, we were able to communicate. We would certainly stay here again.
Beautiful casa, fully equipped kitchen, ethnic art galore (like a museum in art appreciation)...the access to the roof was stunning and provided tranquility for morning meditation and a little yoga....plus, the staff could not have been more attentive, especially when we needed extra blankets for the coldest night of the winter. We made a delicious vegetable soup in the gorgeously tiled kitchen ...Mil gracias to Mimi, Alejandro y Judith
Casa Vino Tinto was a great experience for our stay in Oaxaca. The patio, with its abundant plants, was a gracious spot for conversation and meals. The kitchen was well equipped., even had a few food items stocked for us The filtered water was a real bonus. The bedrooms are large, with comfortable beds. Having washer and dryer in the unit was great. Caretakers Alejandro and Judith were helpful and kind. Although they don't speak English, my bit of Spanish and their I Pad translator let us communicate effectively. We would have appreciated some written directions in the unit itself, the instructions that Mimi, the owner, sent in emails. That would have been easier than looking things up electronically. And it would have been good to know what is recyclable. Another detail, not a problem, but just to know, is that the patio is also the entrance area for the upstairs unit, so those neighbors walk through. Our family enjoyed our Christmas holiday mucho.
The property is on the corner of a narrow st. In one direction we walked clear up ( and Up and up!) to a dirt road that took us to a view of Oaxaca and beyond. Several runners and walkers up there. Very safe. The other direction took us to the zocalo via server all parallel lovely streets with beautiful murals, 2.2 km away.
There is a tiny grocery store and a small market within 3 blocks in opposite directions and a larger market about 1/2 mile away. Alejandro and Judith are lovely and helpful people who transported us from the airport, showed us around the house and shared tips. However, my Spanish is so limited that I would not have been able to communicate with them. My daughter was able to and translated. We're we're four adults and three children. It was a perfect place for children who reveled in the discovery of all the folk art and plants. The rooftop terrace was a real plus, too.
Our party of five adults stayed at this beautiful home just recently. It is gorgeous, clean, and in a good location central to all of our activities. I highly recommend this home in Oaxaca! The patio is where we spent a lot of our time when we were not out and about. It is covered and very beautiful with many plants and decorations. Mimi was very helpful, as we had to cancel our planned stay in November, so she was kind enough to rebook us so that we did not lose our deposit. Alejandro and Judith were very kind and attentive. They helped to make our stay at Casa Vino Tinto special.
My rental is located in a working class neighborhood
It is generally quiet.
The walk into town is along cobbled lanes, through the street of the ancient aquaduct, Los Architos, straight to the Zocalo.
