Overview

About the property

Two bedroom cottage with beach access and walking distance to 'downtown' Lummi

This charming, historic and beautifully appointed beach front house features two bedrooms (one room with attached bath has a Queen bed and another room with a single bed) and sleeps three. The cottage is stocked with everything you will need for an easy get away. Enjoy the large deck overlooking the breathtaking views of Mt. Baker and the Sisters, watch the ferry, the Whatcom Chief, sail back and forth, take a soak in the deep tub, read by the fireplace, put your kayak in the water and adventure, or go for a bike ride or hike. You will find yourself within walking distance of the local Beach Store Cafe (just across the street), Farmers Market, and local grocery store. Conveniently located only a five minute walk to the ferry and on the picturesque 7 mile loop which is great for walking and bike riding. Despite the proximity to Vancouver BC and Seattle, Lummi Island feels like it is a 'world away'. The Beach House was built in 1933 and has a long history on Lummi Island, and at one time served as the local library. With a complete Sunset Magazine worthy remodel in 2004 it could not be sweeter.

Wonderful as always!

This was our 4th year staying here and every year we love it a bit more! Watching the ferry and the mountains is relaxing, the food across the street is great, and the house is cozy. Can’t wait until next year!

Getaway for a small group

  • 5 of 5

Great location and view! The bed was super comfortable too! We made some great dinners in the kitchen. I suggest bringing a chef knife depending on what or if you plan to cook. The cafe is very very close if you want to take it easy. Our stay was relaxing and just what we needed. Angie was so nice too! I highly recommend this for any small group visiting Lummi.

Compact, tidy, spot for two with fabulous view

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from 2 nights here. The cottage has a small footprint yet feels spacious with square footage in the right places -- kitchen, bath, and living room. The high vaulted ceiling and wonderful eastward view of Hale's Passage and Mount Baker & the twin sisters give an added sense of spaciousness. The decor is not fancy but bright, inviting, and very well kept. It is well equipped for 2-3 people, has easy foot, bike or car access to ferry, local store and restaurant. The interior is quite well screened from near by homes.

While we didn't spend much time on site or outside, the back yard is relatively spacious and right on the water. We only saw high tide & there didn't appear to be a beach but rather interestingly carved sandstone with good footing. Access is via a newer set of sturdy steel steps.

The beds were small but plush, with the queen being squishier than we prefer - we are not large people.

Highly recommended for a 2-3 people who want to spend a couple of days on Lummi Island and we are likely to return!

Wonderful!

Great home, nicely decorated, clean, good bed, gorgeous view. I left my library book and glasses there and Angie mailed them back to me immediately and did not ask for payment for postage.

Mount Baker was magnificent!

Those of us living on Lummi Island came here because of its unspoiled natural beauty, the slower, peaceful pace of the island, and a tight-knit rural community reminiscent of a bygone era. We are also the only San Juan island with easy access to the mainland and urban services, one of the main reasons Lummi can remain as commercially undeveloped as it is. Here, Mother Nature is at her best with spectacular water and island views, an abundance of sea birds, eagles, herons, and even passing pods of Orca whales. There are many ways to fill your time while you visit Lummi Island; beach comb, ride your bike on the quiet roads around the island, eat delicious, locally grown food at the Beach Store Cafe and listen to live music, visit the famous Willows Inn, stop in for a glass of wine at the wine gallery, bird watch, kayak, go sailing, read a book by the fire... Lummi Island is also a great launching point for Bellingham or exploring into the bigger city like Vancouver, BC.
