About this property

Luxury character Cottage in a popular Village location in Central Northumberland

Riverside Cottage is a period self catering holiday property overlooking the River Coquet. Built by the Duke of Northumberland around 1895, it is set in the attractive Village of West Thirston in the heart of rural Northumberland and just 8 miles from unspoilt beaches. The Cottage has been lovingly renovated to a high standard whilst keeping all its original character. This lovely period Cottage is situated in an idyllic rural village and offers views over the River Coquet, perfect for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. Just yards from the front door is the riverbank, with miles of beautiful riverside walks leading into the stunning countryside.

The Cottage is accessed through a state of the art keyless entry system leading into the Entrance Hall. This simple system means you have the freedom to not worry about carrying keys with you during your stay. In the entrance hall you will find a corner storage unit and towels provided for you to dry down your pets, should you wish to bring them with you. The Cottage has full gas central heating and is fully equipped and includes high speed fibre broadband (Wi-Fi). The Entrance Hall leads into the comfortable and stylish Lounge. It has a beautiful traditional cast iron open fireplace with slate hearth with an original oil painting above it. A lovely three piece suite, oak flooring and traditional window shutters. There is a 50 inch Samsung QLED SMART TV and a collection of books, games and DVD's.

The Dining Room has an original open grate fireplace with bread oven, wood surround and marble hearth. It comfortably seats four people and is complete with a drinks cabinet full of cut crystal glasses and a wine rack. The room benefits from a beamed ceiling and oak flooring, which adds to the character feeling. The Dining Room also has access to the outdoor seating area with BBQ facilities. The attractive modern Kitchen is fitted with a range of white wall and base units with wooden work surfaces. It has integrated appliances including an electric oven with gas hob and extractor hood, microwave, fridge and freezer, washing machine and family sized dishwasher. The kitchen leads to the downstairs cloakroom/WC.

Upstairs the Master Bedroom has a lovely wooden double bed with matching bed side tables, a built in storage cupboard with hanging space and chandelier lighting. The room has two windows with traditional panelled shutters and window seats offering beautiful views over the River Coquet and the attractive bridges in West Thirston and Felton. There is also a chest of drawers/dressing table and wall mounted 40 inch Samsung QLED Smart TV. The Second Bedroom has twin beds and a cast iron open grate fireplace and surround, a built in cupboard offering hanging space and a chest of drawers. Our bed linen is exceptional - the finest 100% Egyptian Cotton, all from the White Company. The modern Bathroom has a panelled bath with hand held mixer shower head plus electric shower over, shower screen, wash hand basin, low level WC, tiled walls and flooring, vanity mirror and heated towel radiator.

Lovely stay and a great base from which to explore the surrounding area
We really enjoyed our stay at riverside cottage. It is very well equipped, we appreciated the baby gate and highchair. The kitchen has everything you need to make dinner in the evening. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The village itself is quiet, there is a nice pub a few doors down from the cottage where we enjoyed a nice lunch.

Lovely small terraced house in a quiet village overlooking the river
The house is really lovely. It is in a small village, 9 miles north of Morpeth (we had thought it was in Morpeth itself). Well-furnished, with a lovely open fire, and central heating. All mod-cons in kitchen, you will want for nil. Modern microwave and cooker. Lots of cutlery and glasses etc. TVs in all bedrooms, nice size rooms, and also nice beds and sheets. Nice decorative touches, so very homely. Great Wi-Fi, and TV in lounge had an in-built DVD player. Lots of wardrobe space, hangers provided. Nice lamps everywhere. Carpeted from stairs upwards, wood downstairs. Dog towels are left out, so clearly good if you have dogs! Dining room is really warm and cosy - upstairs is cooler. Parking easy on the street. Combination lock affords easy entry, no keys to lose! The village itself had not much to do. The river walk is not that special, though will probably suit dog walkers, though be wary of the trail motorcycle bikers. The village bridges are pretty, there is a small shop there. The pub we didn't visit, but looks popular, very busy on Sunday lunch as judged by the amount of cars parked on the road outside, and the welcome basket from the deli across the river by the owners [a steak pie, and a veggie one, plus some bread and cakes] is amazing - however, we went for breakfast and it was fully booked, so be warned. So you will probably have to drive everywhere, which is no issue, as it is so close to the A1, that we saw everything from Berwick-upon-Tweed/Lindisfarne, to Newcastle/Gateshead, to Hadrian's Wall. Rothbury was a pleasant surprise, non-touristy lovely small town/large village - the Simonside hills nearby are great for walking, a great walking route by the car park there. Morpeth was a bit of a let-down for us compared to some of the other towns we saw, such as Warkworth, so glad in a way the house was not in Morpeth! There is amazingly a bus route outside the house on the main road that goes through the village that goes to Newcastle and Berwick and many other places if you don't fancy driving. There is too much to do in the area for a week, we are going to come back to the area next year! The owners were very communicative and helpful, made you feel at home, though of course you don't meet them. A real pleasure to stay here, we felt instantly restful when we walked in! Thanks!
