The cabin is located roughly 5 minutes from downtown Decorah. The private yard and minimally traveled road makes the cabin close enough to downtown to enjoy local shops, restaurants, trails and streams, yet just far enough away to have campfires, yard games and more. McCaffery's Dolce Vita restaurant is also located within walking distance to the home as well as the Trout Run Trail, Pulpit Rock Campground, Twin Springs Park and the Upper Iowa River.
The home features a large covered porch with lots of seating, a grill and ceiling fan. It is a great gathering place in the mornings and late evenings for many guests. Lots of cards games and cups of coffee are typically held in this area!
The main level of the home has two private bedrooms, each with a queen bed, dresser and nightstands. There is a large open kitchen and living-room on the main floor with all the space to entertain while cooking and enjoying each other's company. The private sunroom is a quiet space to read or watch a movie. It features a pull-out couch for extra guests. The large bathroom contains a clawfoot tub, washer/dryer and sauna!
The upper level of the cabin is an open loft concept, housing two queen beds, two twin beds and two dressers.
The roundhouse or earth-home concept in carried throughout the home with its refurbished materials and natural woods and stones, its definitely something to see! The home naturally stays cool in the hot summer days and warm/cozy during the winter months. The gas fireplace is definitely a crowd favorite, warming the large living-room and kitchen area with ease. A well-known artist and former Luther Professor, Doug Eckheart, occasionally visits his studio, located near the property. Be sure to say hello and ask for a tour!
Decorah and Northeast Iowa have much to offer. Some of the best trout fishing in the state of Iowa is just down the road. Turkey, deer, and the occasional pheasant are popular hunting attractions in the area. The Upper Iowa River is nearby and offers fishing for many species. During the summer months kayaking, canoeing, and tubing the Upper Iowa is incredible and we can nearly guarantee a bald eagle siting!!
Decorah attractions include the Porter House Museum, Luther College campus, Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, Steyer Opera House, Decorah's Fish Hatchery, Malanaphy Springs, and Decorah's Historic Architecture Tour. The newly completed 14 mile bike trail circumnavigates the entire community!
Check out the Fort Atkinson Preserve, Bily Clocks Museum, Seed Savers Exchange/Heritage Farm, the Winneshiek Wildberry Winery or the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Burr Oak, IA.
This cabin is non-smoking.
Zach and Stephanie Fromm, both graduates of Decorah High School, loved growing up in this scenic part of Iowa. They've enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, fishing, biking, camping and hiking in the Decorah area – Their passion for the outdoors is pretty obvious when you set your eyes on this beautiful cabin, located just past Twin Springs Park.
After taking ownership of Twin Springs Lodge in late November, 2014, they were off and running with ideas on how they wanted to share their 'home away from home' and give families the opportunity to adventure, relax and enjoy Northeast Iowa's 'Driftless' Region.
Any and all feedback is welcome! Your opinions matter to us, and we'd love to hear how your stay was or how we can make it better!
Stephanie Fromm purchased this lodge in 2014
My boyfriend and I came up for a four day weekend and needed just a lovely night away. This place is amazing! We are considering moving to Decorah and this helped make our decision easier! Love the people here and the atmosphere. Thank you Stephanie for the last minute yes!
We had a short time in decorah for an event and this property was perfect! The surrounding landscape is gorgeous with the springs and hills. We had a large group of adults gathered and the space was perfect to hang out and enjoy everyone’s company. We will definitely look for this property again when we visit the area next time.
Clean, cozy, plenty of room for everyone, comfortable beds, good communication, reliable. Really cool place!
We had a great time in Decorah. This was a perfect location for us. The lodge is well kept, plenty of room and the owners are easy to do business with.
We have stayed at this property twice now and will stay again. We were a group of adults and kids and it worked out well. We had plenty of room for the three kids to enjoy play time and for the adults just to sit back and relax! This is a great location to stay at and the lodge is very clean and well maintained. I loved the peace and quiet while sitting outside on the front porch! The campfires were fun too!
We (my sister and her spouse, our mother and our 2 dogs, Brillo and Yoshi) spent 4 nights at this wonderful lodge located just on the outskirts of the town of Decorah. So it was very convenient to town and the main highway. An Italian restaurant was within walking distance from the lodge; however, we didn't get the opportunity to dine there. We enjoyed our morning and evening walks with our dogs up the country road and couldn't have asked for nicer weather the week of August 19th. Our visit brought us to Decorah for a mini reunion with our cousins who came from Oregon, Arizona, Michigan, Missouri and western Iowa. Our aunt and uncle live on a farm in Calmar where we spent the majority of our time. We are so grateful for the rental of the Fromm's lodge, especially since it is pet friendly! We couldn't have made this trip without this amenity! The lodge is spacious and comfortable with satellite TV. I wish we had more time to enjoy sitting on the front porch enjoying the peacefulness and beauty of Iowa! We cannot think of anything negative to report. An extra bathroom would be great, but we were able to make due with one since there was only 4 of us. I hope we will be able to make another trip here and will definitely request Twin Springs Lodge for accommodations!
Loved staying here! Excellent location and accommodations. Lots of room. Wish there was a second bathroom, but would definitely stay here again
