City of Palm Springs Vacation Rental Permit Number PS6652

This contemporary house is tucked away on a cul-de-sac in the Movie Colony East area of central Palm Springs. The area is quiet residential and very private. The solitude can be interrupted by birds chirping or occasionally by sounds heard in a central city location. Just a few blocks east is the Desert Hospital on Palm Canyon, the major thoroughfare to downtown. An easy walk northeast to the intersection of Vista Chino and Sunrise are two grocery stores, a drug store, fitness club, and other retail. The airport is 2.6 miles southeast of the house. With three bicycles available for your use in the double garage, it is possible to get by without a car.

There are 3 bedrooms, each with a ceiling fan, and 2 baths with skylights. The master and guest bedrooms have queen sized beds, the third bedroom/den has a day bed with pop up trundle which can be configured as one or two single beds or a king bed, and the living room has a convertible queen sofa. The living area features a skylight in the foyer, vaulted ceiling, wet bar, gas fireplace and piano. Patio doors and windows open to the citrus trees and to the south fountain, extending the living area outdoors. The décor is cozy and comfortable, eclectic with an international flavor modified by Minnesota.

The property features nine mature citrus trees, a rose garden, and a separate fenced pool and spa with panoramic mountain views, but private enough for skinny dipping. The pool is kidney-shaped and up to 8 feet deep at one end. The adjacent spa holds 4. The pool/spa area is separated by a secure fence and the gate can be locked. The master bedroom patio door offers convenient access to the pool/spa area.

Technical amenities include DVD players, televisions in all 3 bedrooms and the living room. fast high speed internet, Wi-Fi, laser printer, unlimited free calls to US/Canada/Mexico, and a security system.

About Jim Jaranson

Retired Psychiatrist, originally from Minnesota, worked with traumatized refugees and survivors of politically-motivated torture survivors from other countries. Still volunteers in the field of torture rehabilitation, now with research and administration primarily.

Jim Jaranson purchased this house in 2003

Why Jim Jaranson chose Ruth Hardy Park

I bought this property when I retired from clinical practice of psychiatry in Minnesota and intended this house as my primary residence. However, the summers became as unpleasant and the Minnesota winters, so I moved to San Diego.

What makes this house unique

I love the citrus trees, the peacefulness, and the easy access to all that Palm Springs has to offer.

Quiet and as advertised

  • 4 of 5

All good. Frank extremely attentive. Could have explained A/V better, only discovered that we had Netflix the morning we left!

Beds and bedding could use some upgrading.

All in all a pretty good experience.

Clean house, safe pool area for kids !!!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you!!! It had a great time to be there. We were celebrated our princess's birthday and we all had a good time doing BBQ and swiming in the pool.. P.S. you don't have to bring your stuff there from home there was a lot of kitchen supplies and appliances and the refrigerator didn't have any smells, so you can keep your food nice and fresh.

Amazing, warm Thanksgiving weekend

  • 5 of 5

This is such a quiet, relaxing area to stay. We were greeted by Frank(property manager) who showed us around the house and how to operate the pool, tv, etc. That was a nice touch we had never experienced at a rental. The available bikes were put to use as my husband and boys ventured around town. The house is clean and well appointed even for cooking Thanksgiving dinner. We enjoyed relaxing and laughing in this wonderful home. Close enough to bike or walk to many of the surrounding stores, but definitely a quiet neighborhood that was perfect for us. We enjoyed an evening walk to see the quirky Robolights that Frank recommended. Thank you for a beautiful place to enjoy some much needed family time. Love, love, love this home!

Relaxing, easy, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The best property we have booked through Home Away to date, we will try and be back. The booking process was so easy and payment dates very fair. Payments were easy through the Home Away site and credit card. The house was perfect and much better in person, pictures dont do it justice. The art work, knick knacks, general feel of the house was like a home and not a rental. Comfortable beds and very homey feel with everything needed. Wet bar was my favorite and we used it well. Layout of the house was simple yet functional. Dinning area kitchen and wet bar all in the same area, very nice. Living room was nice with a nice couch that turned into a bed and 3 comfy chairs. Piano and fireplace added a nice touch. Master bedroom and bath was very nice with a nice slider to go out to the pool area. Loved the sign on the wall going out to the pool area that said "we dont skinny dip, we chunky dunk" we sent the kids to the ice rink and took its advise. front and back desert landscaping was clean and nice, fruit trees in the back yard, nice BBQ we used almost every night. Pool area was super nice we spent lots of time out there. Pool was clean and nice Spa worked great, even a remote control that turned on the spa. Very nice lighting all around the property. Very quite neighborhood in the movie colony, my favorite area of Palm Springs, nothing but cul-de-sacs in the area and very quite. Jim made the booking process easy and Frank was there when we checked in to make sure we understood how to work everything in the house. He even made a visit with his cute dog the next day after we had a pretty big earthquake nearby to make sure all was alright. We had a great time and will try and be back next year.

Great base for enjoying Palm Springs

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay: the residence was clean and well-maintained. The property manager was attentive and responded immediately to our questions and needs. The house is very open and pleasant. We enjoyed some books from the bookshelves in the bedrooms. The citrus trees in the back provided wonderful shade AND FRUIT during a few weeks of 90-degree days, while the pool provided a place to tan and cool off. The house appeared to be well-insulated - we never found the need to turn on either the A/C or the heat, though we did enjoy the fireplace on some of the cooler evenings. The fans were quiet and effective. The enclosed yard provided privacy and security. The bicycles (3) available turned out to be a real bonus: they were road bikes and Palm Springs provides many, many roads with bike lanes and/or paved paths aside the roadways. It was an easy 2 mile/ 12 minute bike ride to the PRC tennis center - a great warmup ride as well as a good cool-down ride after play. Downtown Palm Springs is about the same distance so we could explore with our bikes (locks for the bikes were provided and Palm Springs provides many places to lock bikes) and without the need to find parking.

We were a 9 minute walk to Ruth Hardy Park for tennis, dog walks, basketball, volleyball and a kids playground. We were only 10 minutes walk from the Movie Colony part of town.

The neighborhood was very nice and generally quiet on a non-through street. What few neighbors we encountered were smiling and very friendly.

We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
