Overview

About the property

110 Yr Old 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Recently Renovated Row Home.

3 blocks to H St. or Union Market and 5 blocks to Red Line Metro. We are close to all that Capitol Hill and the H Street Corridor have to offer.

Our home is over 100 years old, but we have lovingly restored it without gutting the charm out of it. You'll find all the modern amenities in a classic wrapper. Combining marble, glass, granite, stainless, original hearts of pine wood flooring to create warm and beautiful spaces. Stay in a piece of history in a city steeped in history.

Guests will have the run of the main home on floors 1 and 2 (there is a separate apartment on the garden level that is used by me and my family on occasion). The home has 3 bedrooms upstairs (2 queen beds and one full bed) and one queen sofa Sleeper on the first floor. It also has two full baths. Finally, it has two 46' big screen TVs with Blue Ray/DVD players and Cable, broadband wireless internet, fully equipped kitchen, and outdoor deck and patio with gas grill.

We are close to everything in Capitol Hill monument and museum-wise ...either by the Red Line Metro (subway), by bus, or by car. (You don't really need a car, thanks to the various public transportation options, including the Capitol Bike Share system). There is a bus line on Florida Ave. 1/2 block away and on K St. two blocks south. H St. is full of cool bars and restaurants and is only 4 blocks away but far enough to avoid the noise and the crowds. Also, Union Market (2 blocks away) is a great place to hang out, get coffee, fantastic Gelato, fresh bread, fish, meat, vegetables, and fabulous gourmet cheese. The wine selection and prices at the Italian specialty store Litteri 1 1/2 blocks away is fantastic!

The Red Line Metro (DC's subway) is only 5 blocks west, Bus lines at Florida Ave. (1/2 block away), K St. 2 blocks south, or H St. 4 blocks south. Convenient to Balt/Wash Parkway, Rt. 295, and Rt. 395.

We can interact as much as our guests would like to interact with us. We have a second home about an hour away and a guest apartment below the home that we sometimes stay in. If we are there we can interact personally if the guests would like to. Otherwise we are quite responsive to text/email/phone for questions and/or advice. English is our native tongue, but between us we speak French, German and a bit of Spanish. We love showing off our city and the many sights, sounds, and aromas you can find in it. Let us help you plan a day according to your likes, interests, and the amount of time you have available.

We'd like people to treat our home as if it were their own...be comfortable, but respectful. Absolutely NO Smoking is allowed in on our home please and NO pets of any kind. You may smoke on the back patio if you need to. Our severely autistic child is deathly allergic to cigarette smoke and dog dander/hair. Please, Please, Please, do NOT smoke anything in our home. Security deposit funds will be used to professionally clean our home if you smoke in it. Thank you in advance for respecting this rule :)

Check-in is at 4pm and Check-out is at 11am.

About Greg Masucci

We are originally Chicagoans, who met in Denver, CO and ended up in Washington, DC (we also have a home in rural Virginia). We have two kids and various and sundry degrees from University of Colorado, University of Chicago, and Marquette University. Why Greg Masucci chose Near Northeast

As for the neighborhood, the H Street area was once up-and-coming, but has definitely arrived at this point. New restaurants open up every day, and the development in this area is hard to stay on top of. Next up: two movie theaters and a Whole Foods. However, you won't find Starbucks, Gap, or any chain restaurants or bars. H Street (and the nearby Union Market) have still retained a kind of 'hipster charm'.

The house itself is a real house--not a hotel room. You will be able to kick back after a long day of site seeing and either settle down for the night with a book or TV, or warm up for a night out on H Street or elsewhere in the District.

What makes this townhome unique

Great for our family

  • 5 of 5

On a bit of a noisy corner, but well placed for shops, transport etc.

Lovely big house, high ceilings, period features etc.

Very well stocked with everything you need in a home, plates, mugs, laundry facilities, washing up liquid etc. Some of the pots and pans need updating and a few items in the house need attention, door handles etc. TVs were too complicated for us to master!, however The games and puzzles were put to good use. We enjoyed our stay very much, and would choose the property again.

By chance we met the owner, who was very happy to share the history of the house, which was fascinating.

Owner's Response: THANKS for the 5 star rating and for staying with us. We are really glad you enjoyed our home. We really strive to make it a very homey place for those traveling and make sure to stock items like multiple rolls of toilet paper in each bath, shampoos, soaps, paper towels and coffee etc. so you don't have to worry about it. In regard to your concerns...the "thumb locks" on the door handles are covered with tape (which we know doesn't look great, but IS very functional) because too many guests were accidentally locking themselves out of the house by locking those at some point in their stay and then accidentally walking out of the house without keys and pulling the doors closed. The televisions have a separate cable box and then the television. In order to have a nice selection of channels, we need a cable box and you have to operate them in unison. You had the TV on, but not the cable box or vice versa when I came by and I tried showing you that. If you had more trouble I just wish you had called me and I would have been happy to walk you through it. Most importantly I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope you'll come again!
