Unique desert experience

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Dome House! The location is perfectly convenient to Phoenix and the surrounding area, yet feels at the same time remote and serene. The air conditioner (especially for the person staying in the downstairs bedroom) is extremely loud, but the house is confortably cooled.

Owner's Response: Sorry about that. I called an air conditioning repair person and he said there was nothing wrong but it still clunks loudly when it shuts off. I will try someone else. Thank you for staying!

Spring Training Get-away

  • 2 of 5

On the positive side, Sue was easy to work with and responded to our needs quickly. Beds were comfortable, tv’s were fabulous!

The opportunities for improvements were the following:

Carpets NEED to be replaced as the numerous stains are throughout the house. Holes in the ceiling and walls need repair. Broken pet gate, accent solar lights, drawer handle, front door lock (hard to open) and worn furniture needs attention. We noticed a strong musty smell on entry to the dome each time we came in.

Most importantly the cleanliness of the house was subpar! Floors & stairs were in serious need of vacuuming and mopping. When reviewing the listing on VRBO, the photos did not match the actual condition of the home.

Overall, it was a unique 4 night experience staying in a dome house, the location was remote but not too far from the ball fields. The flexibility to bring our dog was nice.

If some addition deep cleaning and repair were done, this would be a very enjoyable vacation retreat.

A bit run down

  • 3 of 5

We stayed the first 2 weeks of February 2018. First the impression of the inside was that it was dirty. Almost everything has a layer of dust on it, with visable dog hair on all ceramic tile floors. Carpets were stained in several places. There had been a water leak in the roof and the wall / roof covering was peeling and blistering in large pieces in several places, There was a hole punched in the wall above the steps that wasn't repaired. There was a dog gate st the bottom of the steps to the upstairs that was splintered, but still usable. There was stuff thrown in all the closets, bedding, stereo equipment, and what ever. The upstairs bathroom vanity is pretty stained. The garage was full of discards from the house, busted chairs, old TV boxes, and just trashy. You could get a car in though.

The house has 2 air conditioning units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The time we were there the temperature on Phoenix was 85 Degrees and the upstairs A/C unit didn't work. We E-mailed Sue and she had the A/C company come out to check it ( had to wait for the repairman). He said it was beyond repair. Then had to wait for the another day for the A/C company to come to give Sue an estimate for a new unit. Never did get A/C upstairs.

Overall impression it that this property is not up to the standard that I'd come to expect from Home Away property's.
