Overview

About the property

Chalet - 1 Bedroom/1 Bath, 400 Sq. Ft. (Sleeps 2)

As the description implies, Mountainside Chalet (MSC) is a "Tiny House" Hideaway (Definition of a tiny house is subjective, but it's a home of about 400 square feet or less, either on wheels or a foundation). MSC is on a foundation and nestled amongst the trees in Packwood, WA. Historic Packwood is situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and at the very center of Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway (Hwy 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country.' It is 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 19 miles from the White Pass Ski Area.

Mountainside Chalet's coziness will charm you. Drift into dreamland on a comfy mattress, with plump pillows and snugly, warm blankets.

Immediately outside is a deck w/private hot tub & outdoor table & chairs, for enjoying fresh alpine air. Behind the house is a wonderfully wooded area and Hall Creek tempting a visit, along with the neighborhood elk.

About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life-time learner. His passion is family reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography, and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Vancouver Island, Victoria BC, & Aruba. Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .

What makes this chalet unique

I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?

Quaint happy place perfect for couples

  • 5 of 5

This lovely little chalet was the perfect getaway, so close to White Pass (an awesome, laid-back mountain). The chalet is 100% full of everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's close to the town of Packwood, a fun place to get a bite. We walked to the Bushwacker and loved it. Marilly, our host, was sooooo helpful and accessible. Great value!

Cute, cozy, well-equipped cabin in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed staying in this cute, cozy cabin. Given its small size, it was remarkably well-equipped, especially the kitchen. Great location---walkable to downtown Packwood and a beautiful, short drive away from skiing at White Pass. Loved the hot tub!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little cabin in a beautiful, serene area. The hot tub was perfect and though we enjoyed our time in the winter, this is no doubt also a perfect place to stay year around. We hope that someday we’ll be back in the area so that we can once again enjoy Mountainside Chalet.

Cozy, clean, warm, and great location! Highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a weekend ski trip to White Pass. The snow was not exactly what we were hoping for, but this property did not disappoint. Instead of skiing we snow shoed and hiked, and the hot tub and full kitchen was everything we we needed when we got back. This home is just the right size and location for a cozy getaway for two.

Very cozy and wonderful cabin! Perfect getaway spot for two!

  • 4 of 5

Clean and cozy. The only thing I would note is that the hot tub is not under a covered porch so, be sure to check the weather first. Otherwise, a perfect getaway!
