🌞Classic Townhouse Apartment in Posh Uptown Neighborhood 🌞

***Please Note This Property Has a 30-Night Minimum Stay Requirement*** Located on East 62nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, the Lexington Suite sits on the top floor of the 5-story 19th century Upper East Side Townhouse. There is no elevator. The fully furnished 4-room, convertible 3-bedroom NYC home spans almost 1000 SF and is loaded with turn-of-the-century charm charm. With it’s location 4 flights above the house’s main ground floor entry hall, the apartment will reward you with two high-perched but radically diverging views, from the front and the back of this full-floor suite.

The large front room of the apartment is furnished with a love seat and coffee table as well as an antique dining table with chairs. Additionally the room features a queen bed (sleeps 2), an antique bureau, three windows to East 62nd Street, and a fireplace*, adding old New York charm. Located at the other end of the suite is a large bedroom which offers a queen bed (sleeps 2) and closet in addition to an antique bureau with marble top. In this bedroom there are two windows facing the garden and a 2nd fireplace* with marble mantle. At the same end of the apartment is a small bedroom with twin bed (sleeps 1). Its one window faces the garden side of the townhouse as well. All beds are U.S. Standard size beds. There is one full bathroom, comprising a tub/shower, WC, and sink. Located through a doorway is the separate kitchen where you can enjoy homemade meals. The galley kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to cook simple meals: an oven, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster oven and dishwasher. *Please note that the apartment's 2 fireplaces may not be used.

The apartment includes 1 flat screen TV. Extras included such as hair dryer, iron and ironing board. 100% cotton linens, towels, quilts, down blankets and down pillows provided.

Housekeeping: Additional $85 per week* (housekeeping 1x per week). Includes change of linens and towels. Utilities: Additional $275/month* includes wifi, electric, heat, hot water, cable (basic). Summer Supplemental Utility Fee for a/c: $125 per month*. The a/c can be installed in the months of June, July, August and September. The a/c is optional however since this suite is just below the roof, it will be very hot w/o a/c. *If you are staying more than 1 month, the utility fees and the housekeeping fee will be prorated accordingly.

We have a minimum 30-day stay. In many cases our monthly rate is cheaper than a 2-3 week stay in a luxury hotel. We encourage you to compare!

The Brownstone is situated in the much sought after LENOX HILL neighborhood of the Historic Upper East side section of Manhattan and a 5 minute walk (0.2 mi) to CENTRAL PARK and some of New York's finest shopping districts. The houses' location, a quiet residential enclave for some of New York's most prestigious addresses, enjoys the best of both worlds – serene privacy and un-matched convenience. The neighborhood abounds with tasteful, exclusive boutiques and charming, international restaurants. Yet, the house is only three blocks from bustling Midtown and some of the City's fabulous and world renown Museums & galleries including the Frick, The Metropolitan and MoMa.

The beautiful brownstone building is conveniently located within walking distance to the Met, Carnegie Hall, the Frick Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Central Park Zoo & Ice Skating Rink & Rockefeller Center. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a quick 12-minute Uber ride just across the Park or to TIMES SQUARE by Taxi or subway. We are in a perfect location for NYC Marathon Runners - as we are very close to the finish line! The East River Esplanade is approximately a 25 minute walk.

Shopping is plentiful including Bloomingdales, Barney's, Bendel's and Bergdorf-Goodman. We are one avenue away from Madison Avenue's most select and high end boutiques. Urban conveniences make living here a breeze, and there are basic living facilities and shops within walking distance, including Whole Foods Market, Duane Reade Pharmacy, a shoe repair, dry cleaners, nail salons, hair salons, Starbucks and much more.

Public transportation around NYC is made easy from this location. Consider using the subway station at 60th Street / Lexington Avenue, which serves the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R trains and F train on 63rd Street (all servicing up and downtown) (express and local). Bus located around the corner. The subway will take you to the Southern tip of the city (Freedom Towers - 9/11 Memorial) within 20 minutes.

The house is a five minute walk to Central Park and Fifth Avenue, 12 minutes to Times Square by Taxi and 11-14 minutes by subway; Grand Central Station is one subway stop away (take the 4 or 5 one stop from 59th street to Grand Central Station); walking distance to Fifth Avenue and Midtown East with its ubiquitous Corporate Offices as well as midtown Manhattan's exclusive Decoration & Design building (D&D building) and Manhattan Art and Antiques Center. Architects, Designers and Collectors from around the world travel to this area for its concentration of design and home furnishings showrooms and galleries.

The country's best hospitals and medical facilities including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell Medical College, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York-Presbyterian hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital are ideally located minutes away from the house.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT = 10 YEARS: 1871 House is a converted 146 year old Brownstone. In that it is an historic building constructed in the year 1871 there is no elevator and all suites are accessed via our central open staircase. Regretfully, this feature (the house's unenclosed staircase) makes it unsafe for young children under 10 years of age to stay in the house.

Our suites are listed on VRBO as follows:

https://www.vrbo.com/666673: Library Suite (2 Bedrooms/2 Bathrooms/efficiency kitchen);

https://www.vrbo.com/789509: Parlor (Studio w/efficiency kitchen);

https://www.vrbo.com/64437 Lexington Suite: (4-room Suite w/2 queen beds and 1 twin bed)

Guestbook comments from the owner

The staff was wonderful and the room looked exactly as it was pictured! I checked all of the reviews before I booked and thank all who have posted. Someone mentioned that the bathroom they had was old. Well, yes, it is, but I have a one hundred year old house so it didn't faze me and on balance, everything is so clean and so charming...and, the neighborhood is wonderful, an old bathroom is a fair trade!!!!!! I used to live in Manhattan in the 1970s and have stayed in hotels on visits since then. So cold and sterile! Now that I've found the 1871 House, I would never go back to a hotel...and, can't wait to return!

Cosy Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is very well located between two important Avenues. It`s tastefully decorated and charming. Although the kitchen is small, It´s fully-fitted. The bathroom and bedrooms are very confortable, as well.

The only drawback I could mention is the fact that it´s located on the fourth floor and the stairs are marrow and steep. But once you reach the 4th floor, you find yourself in a clean , pleasant and very cosy apartment which makes your way up, absolutely worth it. !!

Great for family of 5

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 stayed here and it was perfect. Super close to Central Park, close to subway and great little places to eat right by if you choose. We were on the 6th floor...I'm not sure if that made a difference, but it was quiet. So good for sleeping in as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great Place to Stay in Manhattan

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I had a very nice and comfortable stay at the Lexington Suite. Great value for a very expensive neighborhood! The only negative was the bamboo window shades in the front room that did not block the early morning sun. I would recommend installing sun-blocking shades, especially, on the window across from the bed. We will surely recommend you to our friends and relatives visiting NYC.

Great Location and Charm

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed for six nights in early March and had a really wonderful time! The location is excellent - fairly quiet for the city, subway access is close by, and there are two great little grocery stores around the block. We felt like real residents of NYC! We stayed in the Madison Suite. The beds were comfortable, the kitchenette was perfect for our needs (breakfast and snacks), and the view was great. The staff was unobtrusive but friendly and accessible. When I had a question, I texted a manager and she got right back to me. The only minor drawback for me in staying at this charming old house was the water pressure. Sometimes the shower would divert back to the tub faucet while showering - I think it was when too many users in other units were showering at the same time? Maybe installing a different kind of shower diverter would fix this? It only happened a few times in the six nights we were there, if it had happened more often I would have contacted a manager. Considering it's a very old house, for the price, charm, and location, I considered it a minor issue. I would stay there again for sure!

Owner's Response: We are glad to hear that this guest enjoyed their stay with us and appreciate positive comments. We're so sorry there was an issue with the shower. As this guest was arriving, we learned the same day when cleaning and going over the suite that the prior guest wrenched the shower knob the wrong way, which in turn cracked an internal diverter of the shower body mechanicals. We immediately ordered a repalcement diverter which arrived a day or two after this guest left. We tested the shower that same day and it worked reasonably well but not perfectly. We did not hear from the guest during their stay so we thought everything was o.k. There were a couple of "duct tape" type fixes we could have done to temporarily rectify the situation but as mentioned we didn't know it was neccessary. The part subsequently arrived and everything has been working fine since then.

Pleasant Short Stay

  • 4 of 5

We would like to have stayed longer. The location is excellent. We came to enjoy theater and art with our college-age son and daughter. The suite on the top floor was cute and quiet. It had enough space and privacy to relax as if at home. The water pressure and temperature were good six floors up. The queen beds were very comfortable. Even with a skinny soprano in it, though, the twin mattress in the smallest room was saggy. Red wine with after-theater conversation is one of the things prohibited in a multi-page policy statement that one receives after making a reservation. It would have been helpful to have a brief list of the rules earlier. Making a simple breakfast in the galley kitchen shouldn't have been a problem, but the old gas range does not have a working igniter.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, Thank you for your positive review! We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We wanted to address a few of your comments. In regard to our lengthy written policies, we try to communicate with our guests as much as possible throughout the entire booking process, as we find that clarity regarding our establishment helps manage expectations and to ensure a smoother, more relaxing stay. We apologize if it seems too lengthy; however, again, we feel it important for guests to know what to expect before arriving here. The red wine policy is included on our list of general policies on our website. We also link to this page on all our email communications. In regard to the issue you brought up with the stove, it just requires manual ignition. We supply extended automatic lighters which are simple to use. These are located in the room. We are sorry that you didn't call or talk to us, as we are always happy to explain how to use it and assist if needed. In regard to the small mattress, each of our suites has different type mattresses and we have never had any comments about the comfort of the small bed or any of the beds in the Suite. Often times its just a matter of personal preference rather than a defect in the mattress. But we will certainly make sure that there is no issue with it. Once again, we are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay, and thank you very much for your positive rating and helpful input! All the Best, Anna, Chris, and Briana 1871 House Management Team

Celebrity sightings and Gossip Girl shoots may be regular occurrences around the Upper East Side, but the neighborhood's real appeal emerges from its refined character. Home to some of the City's finest museums, restaurants and shops, as well as the stately mansions and statuesque apartment houses where New York's elite have lived for generations, the Upper East Side exudes elegance on every block. Museum Mile—which runs along Fifth Avenue between East 82nd and East 105th Streets—boasts nine world-class cultural institutions, while Madison Avenue teems with the biggest names in haute couture, both in designer boutiques and at high-end resale shops that sell stylish brands at nearly half-price. When hunger strikes, you can choose from everything from down-home diners to posh restaurants to some of the City's most renowned Japanese sushi spots. Kids and grown-ups alike delight in some of the City's best ice cream sundaes after a day spent meeting exotic wildlife at Manhattan's only zoo. As elegant and historic as it is cutting-edge and exciting, the Upper East Side is a must-see neighborhood that truly offers something for everyone.
