The Lexington Suite offers the unique advantage of two high-perched but radically diverging views, from the front and the back of this full-floor suite. From the front, the picture is of the tops of townhouses not unlike 1871 House, water towers rising above them, and a few larger, more recent apartment buildings reaching up beyond them at the fringes. A look through the window in one of the Lexington Suite's back bedrooms presents, instead, the figure of fully realized modernity, with a few of the soaring skyscrapers of Midtown, including the just-completed new addition to the NYC skyline, the enormous residential building at 432 Park Avenue.

The front, north-facing room fills with light coming through the three huge lace-clad windows, which are state of the art triple thermo-pane, reducing noise and insulating very well. A large sitting and dining area, with table and five chairs, adjoins the luxurious Tuscan Ralph Lauren Kearney bed. An American Empire mahogany chest of drawers and marble fireplace round out the room.

The guest of the queen bedroom at the back of the suite can look either down at the lush foliage of the Garden Room's terrace two stories below, or up, toward Midtown's most recent heights, as mentioned. The bed is of iron and brass and is accompanied by an antique English pine cabinet, a circa 1881 black walnut Victorian chest, and an original marble fireplace.

The second bedroom at the rear of the floor, a twin, is a small room (approximately 5' x 9'), featuring a wrought iron and brass daybed and a tall chest of drawers. It shares the diverse window view of the adjacent queen bedroom.

A fully equipped galley kitchen comes between the central bathroom and main front room, which includes lots of storage in open shelving, a full-size refrigerator with freezer, microwave and toaster ovens, a gas range and oven, a dishwasher, and a coffeemaker.

The central, private en-suite bathroom consists of a porcelain tub and shower and a pedestal sink.We have a similar suite on our 3rd floor (the Madison Suite). The Madison Suite has a similar layout as the Lexington Suite and is generally a bit more expensive.

The elegant turn-of-the-century brownstone is located on a side townhouse block on East 62nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues within the historic district of the Upper East. The pretty shuttered townhouse is in a nicely quiet location two blocks from Central Park. The quiet street makes you forget you’re in the heart of the city. Luxurious Madison Avenue boutiques as well as fine dining and world-renowned museums and cultural institutions surround the house. Central Park is two blocks away. For guests here on business, the house is ideally located near Midtown Manhattan as well as 7 subway lines and Grand Central Station. The 5-story brownstone house contains a total of 7 charming suites - 11 bedrooms in total.

Most of 1871's rooms offer high ceilings, ornamental fireplaces, and four-poster beds covered by quilts, marble-topped dressers and lace-curtained windows. Fireplace mantles, moldings around windows and high ceilings have been preserved. All give the place an elegant B&B feel, as do the antiques scattered throughout. Rooms are modernly enough appointed that you won't feel stuck in the 19th century. Each room is quite large, cozy and country furnished.

More about the location:

Elegantly situated on Manhattan’s fashionable Upper East Side, the House's location enjoys the best of both worlds – serene privacy and un-matched convenience. The house's location is a quiet residential enclave for some of New York’s most prestigious addresses. The neighborhood abounds with tasteful, exclusive boutiques and charming, international restaurants. Yet, the house is only three blocks from bustling Midtown and some of the City's fabulous Museums including the Frick, The Met and MoMa. Shopping is plentiful including the 4 Bs: Bloomingdales, Barney's, Bendel's and Bergdorf-Goodman.

The house is walking distance to Fifth Avenue and Midtown East with its ubiquitous Corporate Offices as well as midtown Manhattan's exclusive Decoration & Design building (D&D building) and Manhattan Art and Antiques Center. Architects, Designers and Collectors from around the world travel to this area for its concentration of design and home furnishings showrooms and galleries.

Medical professionals, patients, families, and caregivers appreciate our ideal location minutes away from some of the country's best hospitals and medical facilities including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell Medical College, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York-Presbyterian hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital.

There is a broad rate range for the Lexington Suite. Our lowest rates are offered for extended stays, for specific existing gap dates in between longer occupancy periods as well as for shorter stays that fall back to back with reservations already in place on non-weekend nights. Rates for advance dates, high-season periods and holidays are at the high end of the rate range. There is rate variation within months.

The minimum night stay requirement varies throughout the year however we generally have a 4-5 night minimum. Shorter stays of one, two or three-nights may be offered for last minute inquiries and for gap periods as well as non-weekend dates that fall back to back with reservations in place. We do not accept bookings with a gap between move in date and availability date (except for very last minute). Feel free to email us if it is last minute to see if we can accommodate a shorter stay.

Transportation is excellent with southbound buses on Lexington Avenue (62nd Street) and northbound buses on Madison and Third Avenue (63rd Street). No buses are allowed on Park Avenue. The area has two cross-town bus lines and subway stations are two blocks south at 60th Street on Lexington Avenue (Q,N,R,4,5,6) or one block north at 63rd Street (F train) on Lexington Avenue. Grand Central Station is one subway stop away (take the 4 or 5 one stop from 59th street to Grand Central Station.

Celebrity sightings and Gossip Girl shoots may be regular occurrences around the Upper East Side, but the neighborhood's real appeal emerges from its refined character. Home to some of the City's finest museums, restaurants and shops, as well as the stately mansions and statuesque apartment houses where New York's elite have lived for generations, the Upper East Side exudes elegance on every block. Museum Mile—which runs along Fifth Avenue between East 82nd and East 105th Streets—boasts nine world-class cultural institutions, while Madison Avenue teems with the biggest names in haute couture, both in designer boutiques and at high-end resale shops that sell stylish brands at nearly half-price. When hunger strikes, you can choose from everything from down-home diners to posh restaurants to some of the City's most renowned Japanese sushi spots. Kids and grown-ups alike delight in some of the City's best ice cream sundaes after a day spent meeting exotic wildlife at Manhattan's only zoo. As elegant and historic as it is cutting-edge and exciting, the Upper East Side is a must-see neighborhood that truly offers something for everyone.
