Time has changed many things, but not the beauty of the Kings River area. The River still tumbles clear and pure over the rocks. Several smaller water falls lead the way to the largest fall known as 'Kings River Falls.' The old grist mill, known as Chimney Mill, once stood where Kings River Falls is located. Here the water cascades over the rocks into a pool of clear blue-green water. This is an ideal location for those who love to hike and see the 'beauty of the wilderness.' Kings River Falls area is a hiker's paradise.
Chimney Mill Cabin is located close to the community of Boston. Five important rivers have their origin within a stone's throw--White, War Eagle, Little Mulberry, Kings and Buffalo. It is located in the southeast part of Madison County on Arkansas 16 that for 40 miles traverses 'the roof of the Ozarks' whose average elevation is 2300 feet. The ridge along which the highway goes separates the basins of the White and Arkansas rivers. Here are found magic scenery and the genuine Ozarks of yesteryear.
Within a few hundred feet of the cabin, sets the historical home of Squire Williams, who migrated from Kentucky on horseback in 1829. In 1868, Squire Williams began to hew the logs for the dream house he had long cherished in his mind. He also cut its chimney stones to precision measurements. The home is not far from the bluff that served as home for Williams family from 1865-1868. Williams also built a grist meal powered by water on the river and ground grain for settlers for miles around. Be sure and look for the indentions in the rocks that shows where mill sat when visiting Kings River Falls--this was the site of the grist mill owned by Mr. Williams. This was once known as Chimney Mill Pond (this is where the name of the cabin came from).
The cabin is within seeing distance to the Arkansas National Heritage Commission area of Kings River Falls. The hiking trail to Kings River Falls is approximately 1.8 miles round trip and relatively flat, easy hike, so it's good for families too. Upon arriving at the falls, you will notice a small stream that comes in from the upper side of the river. Be sure and follow this little creek upstream a bit, to enjoy a series of waterfalls that come down off the top hill. When the water is high , it definitely worth your time to check it out.
Kings River Falls is also located near some popular areas such as: Hawksbill Crag, Glory Hole, Lost Valley, Ponca area for viewing elk and the Buffalo River. This would definitely be a place for someone who loves the outdoors and all the beauty untouched by man.
