Very happy!

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our recent stay here. It was a very comfy and cozy place to return to after a day on the area's ski trails. We were amazed with all the thoughtful amenities and enjoyed all the personal touches. Close enough to walk to town too. It was perfect!

Cozy little home in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to this home based on our very positive first experience. This is an extremely clean cozy little property that is literally a couple of blocks from a gorgeous beach on Lake superior. Close enough to attractions downtown that you could walk or ride bikes. The neighborhood is full of very nice and interesting Marquette style homes. Definitely makes you feel like you are staying at a friends house in a quiet neighborhood instead of some rental property. The home is small but feels cozy instead of cramped. Could very comfortably sleep people in three different areas including the pull out sofa. For a group of 2 to 4 people anything larger seems like it would be a waste. When visiting Marquette we are almost always out exploring anyhow so retiring back to this space at the end of the day is just perfect. The owners are very good at communicating and available if you need anything. Not sure what else you could need to spend a couple of days or couple of weeks in this property.

Lovely home. Very clean and comfortable.

We were there to X-C ski, enjoyed Blueberry and Forestville trails, and check out a few breweries. Thought it would be a great place to come on the summer with our son & mountain bike. Thanks!

Beware of hidden checkout procedures. It will cost you!

  • 3 of 5

Property was nice and we enjoyed our stay. Downsides: Owner failed to contact us with arrival/key info. We had to call them right before visit as hadn’t heard from them. They have specific checkout requirements that are not posted or obviously displayed. (They will withhold part of security deposit. ) For example: used towels go in laundry hamper in bedroom closet. We gathered ours up and laid on bathtub edge. That will cost you. Beds were to be stripped . We made the beds as didn’t see any instructions. That will cost you! Sheets had to be in a hamper. I do not think that their requirements were unreasonable. I just wish they would have posted a checkout requirements document somewhere in an obvious place. There was a welcome letter on a bookshelf and owner says checkout info was on the backside. We read the letter but didn’t realize there was anything on the back. ( didn’t say “over for checkout instructions”) We’ve stayed in several home rentals and do our best to take good care of the property. We have never had this issue. I just wish they would have posted instructions on the fridge, or faceup on a table or somewhere where you can’t miss them.

Owner's Response: We are saddened that this guest felt this way. Our Welcome letter/"Check in" information (right at the front door, when you arrive) says on the bottom: "(please see reverse side for Check-out procedures)" I don't think I've ever been at a VRBO that did not require these type of close out/check out procedures. And, since becoming a VRBO operator, I now understand why...when linens are where they're supposed to be, and the beds are stripped, you KNOW everything that was used, which beds were used, etc. As you can tell by every other 5 Star review, we are reasonable people, and our goal is always that our guests love our home, which is the result 99% if the time. Love this little house!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a wonderful week in Marquette enjoying our friends, the beautiful fall colors, and warm temperatures. (We returned to Cincinnati the day before the big storm...) We have long considered Marquette our second home, but up until last May have always stayed in a hotel. Now that we have discovered this "Sweet Little Home", we have the perfect place to come home to in Marquette, as well. Thank you Jim and Colleen for sharing your special retreat with us. We love living there! We will see you in the Spring!

About James and Colleen Clark

Jim is born and raised in Marquette, and Colleen's roots reach back to Marquette, even though she was raised in lower Michigan. They have been back in Marquette for 26 years, it is where they raised their family, in the home that Jim was raised in.

James and Colleen Clark purchased this bungalow in 2014

Why James and Colleen Clark chose Marquette

We have had our eye on this property since we purchased the home we live in (right next door), in 2005. The 300 foot deep, wooded lot is a beautiful natural setting, in the city limits!

Sweet Superior Retreat came to be because that is exactly what it is. It's a charming, peaceful little place, and the more that we worked on updating this special place we'd been watching (and caretaking) for 9 years, the more special it became to us.

What makes this bungalow unique

500 feet from the ever changing Lake Superior & it's beautiful beaches; miles of walking/biking paths; 4 nearby parks & playgrounds; ability to walk or bike to historic downtown Marquette and Third Street's shops, bars and restaurants.

Marquette has been nationally recognized for it's mountain biking and Nordic ski trail systems; and is also home to one of the best Midwest alpine ski facilities, Marquette Mountain.

We are also proud to have Northern Michigan University (NMU) as a resident, and all the college athletics (hockey, football, volleyball, Nordic skiing...) that come with it, as well as the Olympic Training Center that it supports.

NMU also provides the community with live theatre productions at The Forest Roberts Theatre; and in the summer, Lake Superior Theatre Company brings performance to the waterfront.

Marquette is home to many well known events throughout the year, beginning in January with the nationally known Noquemanon Ski Race; February brings the U.P. 200 Dogsled Races; and summer brings Food Festivals, Art on the Rocks, The Outback Art Fair, Blueberry Festival, The Blues Festival and the Ore2Shore Mountain Bike Race, just to name a few. Many of these events are held at Mattson Lower Harbor Park, just a short walk on the bike path away from this charming little home.
