Great room all open to the kitchen and dining area's make for fantastic entertaining space. Lots of room to relax and get comfortable. Just off the kitchen are two large decks overlooking the river and the dock. There are a couple of dining tables on the deck ( one is covered) and plenty of room to enjoy the sunshine The deck is in sun for the majority of the day. New this summer is a heated swimming pool just off the deck. Very private and secluded yet close to amenities in town. The upper yard has a large grassy area should you want to play lawn games or things of that nature. We do have a deepwater dock so you can bring your boat with you and you take advantage of the water for fishing or just pleasure boating. Bring your own kayaks or rent them from the vendor intown. We are fully equipped for lobster cooking outside with a separate lobster cooker and of course a gas grill for those BBQ's. You really won't have any trouble finding things to do or if you prefer just sit, relax, watch the lobstermen and do nothing!
We are located not too far down westport island so the convenience of getting back to the mainland is right at hand. Many great attractions in wiscasset, dubbed 'the prettiest village in maine' - from antique shopping to galleries and the world famous 'red's eat's' know for it's amazing lobster rolls. There is always a line so be prepared to wait - well worth it. You can purchase lobster's right off the dock at the north end co-op on the island and they don't get any fresher than that. If you travel a bit south to bath there are many great attractions in that area. Bath is the city of ships and the bath iron works is back in business. Well worth a trip downtown to get a feel for the history of the town. You can head down to reid state park for an hour or a day and take advantage of both sandy beach and tidal areas to explore in. A little bit longer of a drive takes you out to popham state beach which is absolutely beautiful with beaches that seem to go on forever and a tide that really goes out. If you are looking for something a bit different you can head north to the boothbay region and spend a day or more exploring here. There is shopping, dining, or excursions you can book and many other attractions. The coastal botanical garden is located in this area and is well worth the trip. You can also check out damariscotta/newcastle and it's quaint downtown. Great restaurants and shops here to enjoy. There are lighthouses to visit and one that shouldn't be missed is at pemaquid point - there is also another beautiful sandy beach in pemaquid that should be sought out if you are a beach goer. If you bring your own boat - most of these attractions can be accessed via the rivers and bays. There is nothing more fun than heading down the river to stop at robinhood for a drink and some steamer's or head over to boothbay through the swing bridge and dock for a nice lunch on a dock. So many options and so much to see if you want to do it via the water. Just let us know you are bringing a boat. There is a boat launch not too far from the house.
