About the property

Knotty Pine Interior, Private River Access With Floating Dock & Mountain Views

The 'Eagles Nest River Cabin' towers over a beautiful stretch of the Shenandoah River where the water meanders and swirls over a long stretch of underwater ledges and rocks. The 75' span of private river frontage offers steps and a floating dock for easy access to the river for swimming, wading, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, or just lounging in a chair. The fishing is the best around as the river offers a healthy population of small and large mouth bass. Waterfowl and other birds are abundant (over 50 species documented) and bald eagles are occasionally spotted. There is a public landing and parking at the bridge just up river providing for float trip opportunities down to the property. 2 canoes included at nominal fee for entire visit so that you can either canoe the Shenandoah River or just stretch back in a tube and float your day away.

Sleeping 8 to 10, this newly built cabin is beautiful inside and out representing the quintessential vacation cabin with white knotty pine interior, vaulted ceiling, 2 bedrooms, 2 lofts, a fully equipped kitchen and a huge front porch that overlooks the entire stretch of river. At the base of the steps of the cabin is a charcoal grill, table and chairs for easy outdoor grilling and dining. The spacious side and front yards offer plenty of room for group games such as volleyball, croquet, corn hole and horse shoes. The back of cabin is in view of the historic Norfolk Southern railroad. The freight trains rumble by the cabin without whistle approximately 3 to 5 times per day.

Centrally located just 15 miles from Massanutten Ski & Indoor/Outdoor Water Park Resort and historic Luray featuring Luray Caverns the most popular cave in Eastern America and an internationally acclaimed destination. The Shenandoah National Park is also internationally acclaimed featuring breathtaking views from the Skyline Drive (Swift Run Gap access point only 17 miles) and various distance trail hikes to waterfalls and other natural attractions.

We hope that you will decide to come visit and firsthand experience all that the Shenandoah Valley Region has to offer and while lodging with us at the Eagles Nest River Cabin. Fun is Waiting! Cozy and fun cabin on the water

  • 5 of 5

Great little getaway for us. The cabin has a unique charm. The two five year olds thought it was really cool. Our intention was to go snow tubing during our stay but the weather wasn’t suitable. I would definitely return in the warmer months to enjoy the outdoor activities.

This house was perfect for a weekend getaway. The owner was easy to contact. A big plus was being able to take our dog. We would def come back!

New Years Cabin Gateway

  • 4 of 5

The house is great for a long weekend with some friends and an awesome location right near the river. We loved being able to use the fire pit near the house at night and the one by the river during the day. With its close proximity to Luray, we were able to check out the caverns and a local brewery. I would recommend a tv, dvd player and something for music. We played a lot of games but would have loved to watch a movie. Overall our stay was awesome!

Our family of four (+ one dog!) LOVED our stay. Perfectly situated near Luray Caverns and Shenandoah Park. We stayed there for Thanksgiving and the kids loved the lofts. Great views, easy to schedule/owners were great and very responsive to my questions.

Good place for a mountain get away.

  • 4 of 5

A group of five friends and two small dogs stayed at Eagle's Nest 11/3-11/15/17. The cabin appeared to be relatively newly constructed and well-maintained. Additionally, the rental was appointed with all essentials, including basic linens and everything one would need for meal prep. The only thing missing was WIFI access, which was a surprise to my group, but not a significant deterrent.

As shown in the pictures, the cabin is constructed on stilts near the river. The property features two fire pits, one close to the cabin near the driveway and another on the river bank. Those travelling with pets and/or small children should note that a road that receives moderate traffic is positioned between the cabin and the river. There is a house a couple hundred yards away, and others on the opposing side of the river. These houses and the road do not provide a setting of absolute isolation, which is good or bad depending on one's preference.

The Saturday of our trip was subjected to an unfortunate steady rain. We had a surprisingly difficult time finding a sports bar in the neighboring towns, but fortuitously stumbled upon Hawskbill Brewing Company in Luray to enjoy a few beers and college football.

Overall, our group really enjoyed Eagle's Nest and would consider staying here again. As this was our first trip to the area, we will definitely be better prepared for weather contingencies in the future. Thanks to James for maintaining a first rate cabin.

All the best!
