About Jan Henshaw

I was born and raised in Madison County. I have worked at my family's business for 20+ years as the bookkeeper and secretary. I also help with the family beef farm that surrounds the property and manage the Linwood Home. I have been married for 14 years. We have two children. I am a strong believer in feeding my family natural, fresh & organic food. If you are interested I am happy to prepare meals for you and your family during your stay! Please contact me about pricing.

Jan Henshaw purchased this farmhouse in 1987

Why Jan Henshaw chose Madison

The home was purchased in 1987. In 2006 it was sold for retirement. The property went into foreclosure and my family was able to obtained the property in 2012. We decided to make the home a vacation rental because we enjoy escaping to the property and we feel that others will too. We are continuing to make improvements to the property.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Linwood Home is a peaceful and relaxing escape from today's fast pace. The only sounds you will hear are the birds and wildlife. Enjoy gazing at the stars at night. Grab a book and read on the front porch swing. Sleep peacefully while the rain hits the tin roof.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house is beautiful and it has everything you need.(the kitchen is amazing well equipped. It felt like home! All the rooms are very clean , new and bigger than they look in the pictures. The outside porch has a swing and amazing views. We arrived on freezing Friday night and It was super nice because the house was warm and Jan left a welcome note and a pumpkin cake :) She was very nice from the beginning, helping us find plans for the weekend and giving us tips to make the most of the house. The area is great; Shenandoah is very close if you like hiking, you can see a lot of different animals! If you come from a city, you will be pleased with the beautiful environment, the mountains and the fresh air, it is worthy! We are looking forward to come back in summer and try the barbecue! :)

House is very well kept. And the host Jan went above and beyond the call to ensure that we had everything we needed. There was bottled water, coffee, plenty of fire wood and even a fresh blueberry pie in the fridge!

You can tell that these folks want their guests to enjoy themselves and it shows. The property is set in the middle of a large clearing and the star light show on a clear night under a fire is inspiring.

We hiked the White Oak to Cedar Run trail.

We have already said that we'd be back for another visit. Thanks Jan.

perfect location for the wedding weekend events!

  • 5 of 5

Jan does a great job of keeping the house super clean, there's plenty of room for people to spread out and relax, or gather for conversations in a variety of places. The kitchen is nicely stocked with pots/pans/dishes for any food preparation. The apple pie was a nice treat! Such a private location, very quiet! Super pleasant to have coffee on the front porch and listen to the breeze, and crickets. Our group would stay there again!

7/12/2017 Spacious, Quiet, Comfortable, Clean, Secluded

Staying in the Farmhouse was like stepping into a ready made home. The house was clean, WELL stocked, spacious, super private, and beautifully furnished. We chose to go into Shenandoah National Park for our first hikes so it took us about 45 minutes to get to our first trailhead (Bear Fence Mountain) and a beautiful drive. White Oak Canyon's alternate trailhead (not inside the park) is much closer. The area is absolutely stunning and the property the house sits on is ideal. We were able to pick up groceries in Charlottesville on our way in, so that was super convenient. Culpeper was only a short 15 minutes away for a cute downtown and restaurants. Jen was extremely prompt in answering emails for general questions or local info, etc. So pleased with our stay. We would rent this house again if we get back to the area.
