Commercial Drive (aka 'The Drive') is a trendy and artsy area with coffee shops on every corner, independent mom and pop shops, farmers market, trout lake, eclectic scene, pubs, restaurants for foodies, gelato, transit and very close to Downtown Vancouver.

2 mins walk to Commercial-Broadway sky train station and departure point of the 99 B-Line bus that goes down Broadway out to UBC. Excellent location for transit with two sky train lines. Check the Translink website for trip planning and routes for bus, skytrain and seabus.

10 mins to Downtown Vancouver & Vancouver Convention Center

8 mins to Rogers Arena for hockey & concerts

About Tess

I'm 37 and have lived in Vancouver my whole life so I know all the sweet spots in town. I've traveled to every continent except Antartica and have a great appreciation for diversity and enjoy learning about different cultures. I love to dance! mostly latin-salsa, bachata and kizomba lately. I work for a union in Labour Relations advocating for members' rights and have a background in Human Resources. I own a rescue chihuahua that comes to work with me every day and I enjoy taking a course or two each term to advance my skills and keep my brain working. I like doing yoga, renovating, brunches with friends and walks. I live with Steve and our two boys.

Why Tess chose East Side

I take great pride in my home. It's been completely gutted and renovated. I've taken the time to do it right and add the details that will make your stay more comfortable. This is really the best location in Vancouver IMO. Minutes to downtown or the highway or transit but just far enough away to have some privacy that you don't get when staying downtown and the building across the street looks directly into your space :/ Of course I'm biased but I will do everything I can to make your stay an excellent one!

Lovely Vancouver Apartment

The apartment is wonderful--clean, up-to-date, well located and with beautiful mountain views out the bedroom windows, and from the roof-top deck. In addition, Tess is the perfect host--never obtrusive, but always available. The neighborhood is quiet, yet Commercial Ave., with all its cool shops and restaurants, is only a block and a half away.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Comfortable place to stay

This house is recently remodeled, and has nice upgrades throughout, but the star was the shower. The heated floors were nice in that each room has its own temperature setting. We were a group of three, and enjoyed the pull out couch so that we each had our own bed. The house was stocked with everything we could need. The location was convenient, as well as the parking space in back. My only complaint, and I almost hesitate to say it, is that all of the trash receptacles are impossibly small. The kitchen has a drawer under the sink, and basically has bowls for trash and recycling. The bath has the type you step on to open, but its so small when you step on it, it tips over and makes lots of noise. Both would be easy fixes! I would not hesitate to stay here again, the owner was easy to contact and easy to work with.

Owner's Response: The kitchen was designed to keep garbage out of sight and away from young children should they stay in the suite. The bins are generally sufficient since Vancouver requests recycling or composting of most items. There are also bins available for this. This is the first time I’ve heard of an issue with the bathroom garbage can but will keep it in mind in case other guests find it to be an issue.

East-end charmer met our high expectations

We've stayed in a number of rentals by owners through VRBO and a couple of the "other guys" and this was in the top 3. Details matter to us - I admit we are fussy - and we've seen more than a few rentals with rave reviews that had some serious imperfections. This one was lovely, and the owner was the perfect balance - someone who provides good information but never intrudes. The rental was immactulately clean, freshly and very tastefully renovated, and well-equipped for cooking and relaxing. Check-in even after hours was easy. It is conveniently located to the south end of Commercial Drive and the Commercial-Broadway skytrain ( 5 minute walk). From there it is a few stops to get downtown.

Unit tips:

Bring some coffee if you'll be making your own (a coffee maker is provided) and black tea if that's your thing - otherwise there's a ton of herbal teas and some instant coffee plus a good selection of the kind of spices you might use on a trip, oil and vinegar, and condiments.

Bring sugar or honey if you use it. The kitchen is very well-supplied for pots, dishware etc.

There is a kettle and a toaster, as well as a microwave in addition to the full appliances.

All kitchen and personal cleansers including shampoo are provided except we didn't see soap for the shower, so toss in a bar.

If noise at night bothers you, bring some earplugs. The house itself is very quiet but it is on a busy street, and since it is more pleasant to have the windows open (it can be warm, fans are provided and the airflow is good), road noise drifts in. It is ordinary city road noise, nothing major.

Local dining and shopping tips:

There are some very nice small grocery stores within a ten minute walk, north on Commercial.

There is a Starbucks and a Blenz about five minutes away.

There is a small convenience store right around the corner for milk. pop. etc, a private liquor store close by, and an excellent breakfast and brunch place very close ( Bandidas Taqueria).

Down Commerical about 15 minutes is a nice (traditional) Indian restuarant (Sidharta), and another ten minutes south is Rosemary Rock Salt with fabulous bagels. In the same area is Marcello's (great pizza - check out the oven). Nearby is a Home Hardware that has everything, all piled high in narrow aisles. Yolks Restaurant is further - Commerical and East Hastings area - but has amazing bennies. Check out the Gourmet Warehouse on East Hastings while there - every utensil and bottled deliciousness you can imagine.

Well-equipped condo in a very accessible location!!

Our family of five stayed a couple of nights here prior to our cruise and we loved the condo as well as the location. One downside is the 3 flights of stairs that you must carry your luggage up to, but other than that, it is a nicely decorated, well-equipped condo with all new amenities. The rooftop deck is a great place to wind down after a day of exploring and it is situated in an area that is surrounded by restaurants and a great bakery. The public transportation system is fabulous in Vancouver with several options available nearby. Tess, our host, keeps you up to date and is very responsive to your questions and concerns. A great place to stay!
