About Vee Ann Nielsen

My husband and I love traveling with our family and are enjoying our grandchildren. We currently live in Mcleansville, NC on my grandfather's tobacco farm along with my parents, children and cousins. We are looking forward to traveling around the country and seeing more of the beautiful places in the U. S. A. We are retired and have our own real estate company.

Vee Ann Nielsen purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Vee Ann Nielsen chose Hillsville

Our decision to purchase this unit was made after visiting friends who own places on the mountain. After leading a stressful life, our visit on the mountain was so relaxing and enjoyable. The peace of sitting on the porch with a good cup of coffee looking out over the mountains let us know this was a place we would love.

What makes this chalet unique

There is nothing any better than a nice glass of wine and a crackling fire while being around the ones that matter most! The fireplace and the balcony are my places of sanctuary and help to focus on the important things in life.

Great location, loved the view and the secluded area. Super relaxing.I would suggest getting there before dark it's a little hard to find the first time. Would certainly stay there again.

Girls Getaway at Hibernation Haven, A Cozy Retreat with a Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

My girlfriends and I loved this cozy and comfortable mountain condo chalet with a great fireplace. The balcony views of the pond and tennis courts with the mountains in the background, were fantastic and made our girls getaway weekend perfect. The beds were very comfortable and each bedroom had an on-suite bath which was very convenient. The only drawback concerning my on-suite bath was, even though nicely updated, it had no power outlet. I had to dry my hair in the other bathroom when it was not occupied or in the bedroom. Hibernation Haven is tucked away one turn right off the Blue Ridge Parkway with easy proximity to Meadows of the Dan, Hillsville, Floyd in Virginia and Mt. Airy, NC. Overall, it was a great place and I would definitely love to stay at Hibernation Haven again!

A fine place to stay

  • 3 of 5

This spot suited our needs for an overnight stay. The wood burning fireplace was wonderful and the full wall of glass makes the living area feel open and bright. We enjoyed the quiet evening from the balcony too, although it's a fight to open and close the glass sliding door and the sliding screen door came off in my hand. We would have enjoyed the starry night more if not for the bright lights of the tennis court clubhouse, which seemed overly bright for a space that clearly isn't used. Seems like motion sensor lights would be a great option there. This place hadn't had a thorough cleaning in awhile. There was sticky residue and water marks on the glass bedside tables; when I cleaned them my paper towel was black with a thick layer of dust. I know everyone has different standards for cleanliness and I don't mind wiping a forgotten surface from time to time, but I was surprised it wasn't cleaner given the $50 cleaning fee. Overall, it was fine for an overnight, and we would stay again if we were in the area.

Very nice!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The facility was nice though we had to do a little clean up when we got there. The location was perfect for us visiting friends and seeing some great local sites. We'll be back!

Conveniently located on the Blue Ridge Parkway between Fancy Gap and Meadows of Dan. Just a few miles to Olde Mill Golf Course, Chateau Morrisette winery, and a downtown Floyd. Enjoy music and wine tasting at Chateau Morrisette and a wonderful restaurant. Visit the quaint area of Meadows of Dan and don't miss the Nancy's Candy Factory. Plenty of scenic views and photographing opportunities.
