About this property

90+ Acre Ranch Directly On The Elk River In The Heart of the Canadian Rockies!

If you're looking for an authentic Rocky Mountain experience, to bring your friends and family together and have memorable, meaningful interaction, in a historic ranch with privacy, world class skiing close by and dry fly fishing at your doorstep, abundant wildlife, and all the comforts of home or spa, you've found it. Built in 1906, Elk River Lodge is custom furnished with 10 luxurious beds, a magazine quality kitchen, hot tub, New outdoor cedar barrel Sauna!, outdoor grill, and views from every room. The hayloft in the barn is the ultimate place to listen to music and play games. It even has a 17 foot wide projector screen to watch your favorite movies with surround sound! Ideal for family gatherings, world class skiing and dry fly fishing, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, snow mobiling, bike riding, golfing, even bob sledding...the lodge feels as though its in a national park that's all yours! Herds of elk and deer graze across the meadows each day. The property is bordered by the Elk River offering miles of world class dry fly fishing in total privacy and a beautiful spring creek flows next to the lodge. Many other streams full of trout are close by.
We run an authentic working ranch that boards horses and are ideally set up for Bed and Bale as well! Bring your fly rods or skis, camera, hiking boots and even your horses!
There's a large wood stove in the great room with plenty of cut firewood at your disposal, a foosball table and antique style record player with a nice collection of old vinyls, a hidden TV with a collection of movies, and a fire pit outside for roasting marshmallows while listening to the elk bugle.
The lodge is ideally located to take day trips to the surrounding national parks including Banff, Waterton and Glacier, as well as the provincial parks including Elk Lakes and Height of the Rockies.
We can arrange Grizzly bear viewing and horseback flyfishing trips to alpine lakes and pristine tributaries that seldom get fished, in valleys with no roads...along with mountain lion, wolf and linx hunting for the more adventurous...
We manage the property as a sanctuary for wildlife which creates the ideal setting to restore the soul and the lodge is ideal to comfort the body.
Elk River Lodge provides the ultimate way to experience the splendor of the Canadian Rockies, the way Montana used to be 100 years ago, only better.

Elk River Lodge
Elk River Lodge did not disappoint! One of the nicest properties we have ever experienced. Jason was amazing throughout the whole process. The Lodge has every amenity you can think of. From the hot tub and sauna to the magnificent loft for movie viewing. Our family had a wonderful 3 night stay and would recommend this vacation property to anyone. Thank you Jason!

Fantastic, refreshing and revitalizing.
An amazing ranch perfectly placed in the meadows along the Elk River , 360 mountain views and trickling creeks outside your bedroom windows…..perfect! We were fortunate to see an abundance of wildlife on our daily fishing and hiking adventures. This was a perfect location for our family get together. An excellent very well stocked kitchen for cooking family dinners, and morning coffee while you watch the elk graze in the meadow out front! A large enough dining room and table to accommodate all. A fantastic bar, games room and lounge for the evenings. Very cozy bedrooms, honestly the best sleeps I have had in years! The barn theatre is pretty awesome, the kids absolutely loved this, especially if there was a little rain. (So did the adults, lol) If you are a fly fisherman, the location couldn’t be better. Some very nice pools and runs right on the property, and you can basically drift to Fernie and beyond! We will definitely be returning, and staying longer!

I read an article about the Canadian Rockies in National Geographic nearly 40 years ago and began a quest to one day have a ranch in the most beautiful place in North America. Now it's a dream come true for friends from all over the world. When not being rented it's frequently used to raise money at auction for charities to help people in need and conservation organizations. I'm an avid fly fisherman and conservationist who believes in protecting wild and beautiful places such as the Elk River Valley in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

Why they chose this property

The fishing, abundance and diversity of wildlife, scenery and setting on a historic ranch in the heart of the Canadian Rockies creates memories that last a lifetime. The dry fly fishing for wild cutthroat trout is world class and truly rare. The herds of elk that graze across the meadows is something most would only expect to see inside a national park, with crowds of people watching, but here we have it all to ourselves. The historic ranch provides a feeling of going back to a simpler place and time, clears the mind from distractions and stress of modern life and brings families and friends closer together.

What makes this property unique

Elk River Lodge is the only place to stay directly on the Elk River offering privacy and countless miles of fishing, hiking, riding, cross country skiing and wildlife viewing…Other accommodations are either not on the Elk River or they're in crowded areas that feel as though they could be in any city or ski resort.
