The Flint Creek Valley abounds with summer activities for family and friends to enjoy. Whether you prefer hiking or biking over the old trails and roads through beautiful mountains and historic ghost towns, screening for sapphires indoors or outdoors, scenic driving tours, strolling along in historic downtown, fishing blue ribbon trout creeks and lakes or hunting the mountains, Granite County is the place to explore. Fascinating sites, interesting rock formations, and wonderful views meet the eye everywhere you go.
In addition to special events planned for most weekends of the summer, summertime offers all visitors the chance to relax and enjoy themselves. We invite everyone to visit the Granite County Museum, peruse the shops in Philipsburg or Anaconda to pick up that special gift or necessity, screen (mine) for sapphires, enjoy live theater productions at the Opera House Theater or movies in the historic Washoe Theater, concerts at St.Timothy's Memorial Chapel high above Georgetown Lake, and follow Philipsburg's Historic Walking Tour through the Philipsburg Historic District.
Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner, local eateries fill, quench and refresh travelers with fresh-brewed beer from the microbrewery and tavern fare, BBQ, breakfast , burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, old world-style pizza, steaks, and seafood. To top off all the great food, ice cream from an old-fashioned soda fountain and chocolates from the “World’s Greatest Candy Store” can fix any sweet tooth.
Stay awhile in comfortable rooms and suites at hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, vacation house rentals, mountain cabin rentals, or a resort. For those seeking the fresh air of the great outdoors, RV parks and campgrounds surround Philipsburg, Maxville, and Drummond.
Philipsburg is right at the middle of the Pintler Veterans Memorial Scenic Highway - Montana Highway 1. Sightseers exiting off Interstate 90 in Drummond first enjoy the rolling ranch country near Hall and later, the creek side, canyon drive through historic Maxville, over Willow and Boulder Creeks. Closer to Philipsburg, the Flint Creek Valley opens wide, framed with majestic views of the high alpine Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, soft ridges of the John Long Mountains, and Flint Creek. Further south of Philipsburg, the two-lane highway climbs Flint Creek Pass flanked by three billion year old exposed rock walls topping out at Georgetown and Silver Lakes. Following a fabulous lakeside drive framed by the magnificent Pintler Mountain Range, the scenic drive descends through beautiful mountains (watch out for the Bighorn sheep) to Anaconda and then Interstate 90 once again.
Literally hundreds of miles of roads and trails crisscross Granite County. Old mining and logging roads make for a four-wheeler and ATV paradise. Mountain tracks traverse past multiple ghost towns and historic mining claims spread throughout the region. Turn your wheels immediately east of ‘The Burg’ to take the Philipsburg Mining District Tour. Behold stunning vistas, hillsides and meadows just made for wildlife viewing, and high elevation lakes and streams brimming with trout. When four-wheeling, riding ATVs, hiking or biking, please always stay on established roads and trails. Respect both private and public property as well as the abundant wildlife in the area―bears, mountain lions, moose, elk, Bighorn sheep, and more.
