About this property

Great Home, Fully Furnished and a now a new sauna for after the days adventures!

A couple of new upgrades to our home. We have just installed 240 charging for electric vehicles (sorry not Tesla - this is a level 2 J1772). We also installed a 5 person infrared sauna! So for all you bikers and hikers and skiers and hunters, it is a great way to relax! This two bedroom home provides you with a comfortable and convenient location for all your fun in Southwest Colorado. Great outdoor sports and interesting destinations lie in all directions and when the day is done, come 'home' to relax in comfort. Sleeps 4 comfortably in two full bedrooms and then there is a futon that can be relocated as needed for 2 more and we can accommodate extra children that love to 'camp out'. Fully loaded kitchen, bathroom, separate dining area and breakfast nook give you plenty of living space. Loops coffee shop next door can get your caffeine needs and breakfast burrito ready to go.
All four seasons are a wonderful time to visit the Southwestern United States. Spring weather can have a few storms but generally we have sunny days, the national parks are open, and the weather is beautiful for exploring. Summer days are for bike riding, hiking, boating, and adventures. Fall is a wonderful time in the Southwest region for your color watch - seeing the trees change into their glorious new wardrobe before winter. Hunters can have all the amenities and still be close to a multitude of good hunting spots. Wintertime equates to great skiing at either Purgatory (formerly known as the Durango Mountain Resort) or Telluride. Cross country ski almost anywhere when the snow is good. The Dolores River is literally 200 yards from your front door and McFee Reservoir is 1 mile away. Go skiing in Telluride or Durango, great mountain biking can be found at Boggy Draw (3 miles away) or Phil's World (12 miles away) just to name a few. Visit Mesa Verde or check out the Ute Mountain Tribal park to fulfill your archeological dreams. Truly there are too many things to do in the area to list them all. We recently became an Electric Vehicle owner and so we have charging access by both level 1 and level 2 charging for SAE J1772 (we have a Chevrolet Bolt).

Great getaway!
My friends and I came down forba few days to do Mesa Verde and other putdoor acyivites. The house was absolutely adorable, well stocked and perfect for our needs. There is a coffee shop right out your front door which was very convenient. Steve and Robby were so kind and welcoming. We loved the town of Dolores and everything it had to offer. If we ever come back down south we will definitely stay here!

Better Than Advertised
This proper is better than advertised. My wife and I stayed at this property for a week and had an outstanding stay. The property has a cool retro vibe and all the rooms in the house are large. We cooked almost every night and the house was stocked with everything we needed. The owners were friendly and responsive while respecting our privacy. The location is perfect as we were able to visit: Telluride, Mesa Verde National Park, Cortez, and Mancos. Plus the Dolores River is about 200 yards away. We enjoyed the quaintness of Dolores and the friendliness of the town. Don't hesitate to book this property. We hope to be back

Wonderful stay
Great location in a small, quiet town. Close to several towns and the Mesa Verde Entrance. Our stay was the first week of June. Temperatures average 50 at night to about 80 °f in the afternoon. The river is super close to the house and accessible but still too cold to actually enjoy a fun dip. Doesn't stop anyone from trying though :) The Host offer several beach towels for any water expeditions you may tackle. House was as expected. Clean, plenty of space and a heater in the bathroom in case you get cold like me. The bathroom mirrors are not kid friendly height. Rooms were nice. Beds were good. The blinds over the windows do not block out much sunlight. By 530 am every morning the rooms were lite up. There is only one TV that's in the living area. No bedrooms have TV so keep that in mind if you have guests that need their own space. We did not explore around the property much. We did not access the sauna. But it was a good trip for us.

About the host

Hosted by Roberta Henes

Host profile image
Steve is a true local, born and raised here and Robby is an 'almost local' having moved to the area when she was 5 years old. After working overseas for almost 15 years, Robby came home to take a break and met Steve who convinced her that life in Dolores was worth sticking around for! Steve currently continues his furniture restoration business in and amongst restoring old cars and improving on some mountain property. Robby is deeply involved in a seed company providing native grasses and wildflowers for reclamation. Pickle ball is the newest addition to their lives adding more exercise and fun. Beware if you stay very long we will try to recruit you.

Why they chose this property

201 is one of the older homes in Dolores. In its day it was considered a luxurious home (although by todays standards it was small) and built by a local doctor. Before Steve purchased the home in 1990, it was a day care center. With Steve's construction skills and artistic vision, the home has been updated and modernized including raising the roof. Influences from Mexico grace the kitchen and bathroom. Funky spaces that would make most people scratch their head have been converted into great storage or interesting architectural features. Robby and Steve live in an upstairs flat next door with a huge open air plan.

What makes this property unique

As you can probably see from the photo's this house makes you want to explore it. With interesting dormers and porches, it calls for a good book and cup of coffee, or supplies a haven after a long hike. It is a landmark in Dolores and if you have the good sense to visit in December, we normally have a sailboat out front decorated from head to toe in lights.
