About the property

Winter/Summer Log Home Mountain Retreat

This custom built log home sits on 100+acres of private family owned mountain forest. You will have the ultimate in privacy while still enjoying fantastic mountain views from the spectacular sun deck. This is not generally a rental home as we frequently spend time here both winter and summer. The home will have a warm 'lived in' feeling that reflects what a vacation home is.

The home is 6mi from Tannersville with many shops and restaurants. Make sure to stop by the Last Chance Cheese Shop Restaurant for a great meal in a cozy atmosphere. Hunter Mtn is 9 Miles away. Here you will find skiing, tubing, festivals, hiking, biking etc. For avid hikers the Devil's Path Hiking trail access points are within one mile from the house.'s_Path_(hiking_trail)

The home is well furnished and has beds for 10 people. Futon in downstairs TV room allows for two more people. We prefer to limit the number of people to 12. Full kitchen with plenty of dishes, silverware, and cooking implements, will make for a comfortable stay for those who like to stay in and cook your own meals.

The house is warm, with a wood burning stove for those cold nights and radiant floor heating in the great room. There are 2 full bathrooms and 5 bedrooms. Bedrooms consist of 1 King, 2 full, 1 Twin Bunk, 1 with two twins. There is also futon in the basement TV area.

There is a full basement with a large couch for watching TV and a utility room with washer and dryer.

About Robert Jensen

We are a skiing family and we love our home in the Catskills. We have only recently decided to rent it during times when we are not using the home.

Robert Jensen purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Robert Jensen chose Elka Park

We travel quite a bit. During these times our beautiful home sits empty and we feel this is a shame. So we are offering it to families who would like to experience a log home in the woods.

What makes this cabin unique

The mountain views are spectacular and and the location is quiet. The short distance to Hunter Mountain is far enough to give you the peace and quiet but close enough to be on the mountain in a few minutes.

Fantastic NYE weekend December 2016

  • 5 of 5

Myself and group of friends rented Robert's Cabin up in the Catskills and had a wonderful New Years Eve weekend.

It's a quick drive from either NYC or Boston. The house is located on a huge expanse of land with hiking trails, along with a huge back yard. We trekked through snow covered paths, found an interesting antique abandoned car, old barns, and a great escape from the regular hustle and bustle of the city. We also brought a dog that loved running around in the yard.

The main living room is where we spent most of our time with beautiful high ceilings and terrific huge windows letting in lots of light. Watching the snow come down was quite a treat. There's also a statue (ships bow ornament) over the kitchen sink which was particularly cool. The house does not have WiFi but cell service was in and out enough to post those Instagram pics. The cast iron stove was great to sit around, with plenty of firewood stocked, and while there is a big flat screen TV downstairs we hardly watched this. Also an air hockey table.

Our big NYE dinner was fantastic, we pulled out the extendable leaves of the kitchen table, had candles, grilled some steaks, cooked a big meal. It was a great way to finish up 2016.

Hunter Mountain is literally minutes away if you are a skier. Also there are some great dinner spots, I recommend the Deer Mountain Inn, or the newly renovated Scribbners lodge, had very good meals at both.

We had a total of 8 adults staying at the house which was comfortable but felt pretty full. A couple in the upstairs master, a couple in the main floor room, a couple in the downstairs room, and two other friends shared the twin beds downstairs. While there are more rooms with bunk beds, these are only suitable for children.

We had an absolute blast and highly recommend.

Perfectly relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Robert's home is beautiful and even more stunning in real life. We truly could not have asked for a better home and location to retreat to, after an extremely long week. The space was spotless and well put together and although the ad suggests it sleeps 10, closer to 13 could have comfortably fit. The back deck and yard are insane and although it was a bit chilly, we spent a lot of time outside and even took a quick day trip to the nearby Kaaterskill Falls (highly recommend as well). Thank you Robert for sharing this treasure with us.

The location and home were spectacular! The place is truly one of a kind. Comfortable beds, beautiful surroundings, nice kitchen. The only caveat I have is that you have to carry out your own trash, which can be quite a bit if you are with a lot of people.

Owner's Response: Justin is correct. I have now included instructions, so people know where to bring the garbage. It is also an option to leave the garbage for a fee of $5 per bag. I wish there was a public service that would take care of this, but due to our rural location this is not offered by the local government. A small price to pay for quiet privacy in nature.

Beautiful log cabin

  • 4 of 5

The property is breath taking, and the house is just as described. Clean, welcoming, and beautiful! I would certainly return for another visit. The ONLY thing that may not work for some people is the lack of internet.

Owner's Response: Ruth is correct. I have, so far, not splurged on internet. I enjoy my lack of connectivity as it allows me to truly get away from it all. My kids are not using their phones to constantly to stay connected. The result has been a much more authentic getaway as I have the full attention of my family and friends. For those who MUST be connected this house may not be the best. Although connections are available at various locations in town.

Absolutely beautiful mountain-side cabin which we rented for a week while attending the HITS Saugerties horse show. Perfect distance from hectic show atmosphere - immensely enjoyed the serenity the cabin brought after a long day. Very spacious and beautifully furnished home - everything we needed was available and then some. The hummingbirds and deer brought us back to nature and we enjoyed the fresh air tranquility. Spent our evenings on the large deck with fire going and no bugs. Perfect size for 6 adults and 4 teenagers girls. Robert was extremely helpful with additional information and accommodating in making the reservation. I would not hesitate to recommend this rental to anyone and we are looking forward to a return visit. THANK YOU!

Taste of Country Crew

  • 5 of 5

We rented Robert's beautuiful home as our base for the Taste of Country Music Festival at Hunter mountain. There were 10 of us a mix of couples and singles in our mid 40's. We could not have been happier. The home is beautiful, tons of space, amazing views and property. You can tell that the family loves their home and the care put into it. We had a hard time leAvibg it. I will definitely be back.

Robert was great to work with as well.

Thanks for sharing your home with us.

We will be back next year!
