About this property

Visit our cosy, traditional crofter's cottage, for the most relaxing holiday

Cornhill is a traditional stone cottage situated in the village of Talmine on the west side of the Kyle of Tongue, Sutherland. That’s in the middle at the very top of Scotland! The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, and sleeps four adults (1 double, 1 twin). There is one bathroom, a well equipped kitchen with range cooker, and sitting room with SMART TV. It is a 10 minute walk from the beach, and just 200m from the village shop/post office which stocks a good range of fresh and frozen food, and other essentials. A further post office/shop is available in Tongue, approximately 5 miles away. NOTE: There is self service fuel available in Tongue, but there is no longer a bank.
Please note I very much value having personal communication with my guests. I am happy to answer any queries, and will endeavor to make your holiday amazing!

COVID NOTE: I am undertaking thorough cleaning to minimise risk. Check in and check out are contactless, unless personal communication is requested.

In the unlikely event that you should start to experience symptoms of COVID-19 during your stay it is essential that you return home, and inform me immediately so that measures can be taken to disinfect the property. Thank you.

A gem of a find.
Cosy and welcoming. Views amazing very close to a stunning beach. I personally would have liked a grab hold for getting in and out of the bath. Local shop very expensive. We had a wonderful stay.

Beautiful location
Beautiful views from property, very remote location which was fine for us. Local shop 5 mins walk. And hotel/restaurant/bar 15mins drive. Cottage very cosy (small) fine for a couple and our dogs. WIFI excellent. For us not having a proper shower was a shame, but we managed. I will definitely be back to the north coast it was stunning.

About the host

I grew up in Cheshire, and visited north Sutherland for holidays since i was a child. I have recently moved to live next door to Cornhill cottage, fulfilling a lifetime dream. I worked in wildlife conservation until taking redundancy during COVID. I love all things wild and natural, that's why I love northern Scotland.

Why they chose this property

I have been visiting Cornhill for over 30 years now, it is my favourite place, and I still find new experiences each time i visit! I have climbed Ben Loyal and Ben Hope many times, and know the coast very well. My interest in wildlife was stimulated there, and my dream to work in conservation definitely started there. I particularly love the wild flowers - Scottish primrose is a delight, and there are many orchids in the summer. Its also a good place to see eagles - both species!
If you need to get away from it ALL this is the place!

What makes this property unique

Cornhill is special because of the clean air, the amazing - constantly changing - views of sea and mountains, the long summer days, the northern lights (if you are lucky!), and dark starry skies... The nature is just amazing, and the community is very friendly.
The lack of internet can also be seen as a positive!!
