Cute & Cozy 2 bedroom 1 bath Old Tahoe Classic with extraordinary lake views.

Location: Wonderful North Tahoe site in Carnelian Bay, 3.5 miles from Tahoe City

2 bedrooms, 1 bath (plus, fold-out couch in living room). Sleeps 4 comfortably, 6 with fold-out couch. 978 sq. ft.

Replete with original character and charm, this beautiful 'Old Tahoe' cabin was built in 1942, with redwood exterior and knotty pine interior. Enjoy many magnificent views of the lake and mountains from inside and outside this beautifully maintained cabin. Warm yourself on a crisp evening with a fire in the large stone fireplace. Dine before the large picture window with gorgeous lake views. Over 150 trees on the property, many of them 80-100 years old. Watch any of the premium movie channels. Relax on the furnished stone patio as small animals and birds feed from their established 'feeding rocks'.

Hike miles of trails on Forest Service land or enjoy a bike ride on the paved bike path. This 'Old Tahoe' style cabin is a couples' delight or perfect setting for a small family. Located just 3.5 miles from Tahoe City's beaches, music festivals, and farmers markets. World class dining is just around the corner, as well as boutique shopping and art galleries. Kitchen includes coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, rice cooker, toaster, microwave, crock pot, waffle iron, plenty of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, cups, and utensils. Also many spices and a variable collection of condiments.

No washer and dryer, garbage disposer, dishwasher, or bath tub.

Kids, and dogs, welcome! I suppose my limit is two dogs, but if you have more, and they are old, or small, or somehow otherwise reasonable, let's talk. Doggie beds provided: two large, two medium, and two small. Additionally, a supply of sheets you may spread over furniture in order that your doggies may use the furniture without worry.

Smoking is OK on the patio or the deck, but not in the house.

Check-in time, 5 pm. Check-out time, 10 am. This gives me seven hours between guests to insure that everything is in readiness for your visit. NOTE: In those cases where there is no other guest leaving the day you arrive, or arriving the day you leave, I am able to be more flexible, and TYPICALLY you can arrive, and depart, at whatever time of day is optimal for you. Of course, if other guests make a reservation after you have made yours, the 5 pm and 10 am times would apply.

NOTE: In July of 2016, we had guests staying over every night of the month, except two. August looks to be nearly as busy. It's wonderful that so many people like our cabin and want to visit it, but this creates two problems for me. The first is, I have many, many projects I need to work on at the cabin, and this is naturally impossible when I am not there. For example, we have about 150 trees on our property, and these all need to be watered, fertilized, sprayed, pruned, and mulched. The second problem is, I am running back and forth from Sacramento all the time, cleaning and preparing the cabin to my satisfaction, and checking our new guests in. This is pretty exhausting in July. But during the winter, it will be even more demanding. In addition to all my normal tasks, I must snow-blow the driveway, shovel the paths, sometimes chip away ice that has formed, and move firewood around. Further, there is the matter of getting from Sacramento to Tahoe, and back. The roads sometimes have snow; at times, it is snowing while I'm driving. This can result in very slow traffic, and serious delays (exactly when I haven't the time for delays.) Finally, there are some rare occasions when the highway is closed completely, making it impossible for me to even begin my guest-preparation tasks.

Therefore, I have decided to give up my place in Sacramento, and move into the little "mother-in-law" cottage that is on our property in Tahoe, in a separate building. During the winter, this will permit me to keep the driveway and paths clear of snow during your visit, and firewood replenished as needed. During the other months, it will permit me to work on my projects, especially the trees.

I will make a concerted effort to be very unobtrusive during your visit. My goal is for you to barely even know that I am there, except on those occasions when you call on me for one thing or another. However, if I were on vacation, I would prefer that the homeowner be in Sacramento, rather than only in a different building. I am sympathetic to your feeling the same way. Therefore, if, at the end of your visit, you found my presence to be an impediment to your enjoyment, I'll give you a refund of up to 1/3 of the rent you paid. I want everybody who visits our home to have a wonderful time. I think that most people will not find me problematic; for those who do, I am happy to provide substantial consideration to compensate.

1-night offer: Normally, we have a 2-night minimum. However, in those cases where there is only 1 night available between other bookings, you may stay for 1 night.

Cancellation Policy: Initial deposit includes a non-refundable fee of $50 per night for cancellation. Otherwise, all rent, deposits, fees, and taxes are fully refundable if cancelled 30 days or more before occupancy. If you cancel in less than 30 days, I'll try to rent the place again, and if successful, will refund to you all the rent, deposits, fees and taxes other than the $50 per night non-refundable portion of the deposit.

Cleaning fee: I charge a cleaning fee of $125.00. I have surveyed (on VRBO) all the other 2-bedroom locations available in Carnelian Bay, and have found that all charge a cleaning fee; the average is $143.20. Only 26.5 % of these locations allow pets; of those that do, the average additional fee for a pet is $47.50, for a total of $190.70. So I am hopeful that you will find my fee of $125 to be reasonable and competitive.

Winter Fee (Nov 1-April 30--Same dates Caltrans says "carry chains") ($125): During the winter, to prepare for guests I must move much more (free) firewood and also remove a great deal of snow and ice. It takes me more than twice as much time to prepare for our guests in the winter; therefore I charge this fee. VRBO isn't able to apply this fee only Nov 1-April 30, but I'll waive it whenever there is no snow on the ground.

Pet fee: I allow up to two dogs, with no additional fee or deposit.

Damage deposit: $250. So far (as of March 1, 2016), all of our guests have had 100% of their damage deposit returned.

1-week stay: As you note on the rate card, I offer discounts for those who stay one week or more. However, during the busy times of the year, this excludes Saturday to Saturday visits (which consumes 2 weekends). For Saturday to Saturday stays, the weekly discount rate would not apply; instead you would be charged the daily rate.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
