About Cheryl and David Patten

We are natives of Massachusetts and New York - sports team allegiance not withstanding- and lived for nearly 30 years in the D.C. metro region. We chose to move to Marblehead to enjoy all that this lovely town has to offer. It is our pleasure to welcome guests visiting the area.

Cheryl and David Patten purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Cheryl and David Patten chose Marblehead

Our house was originally constructed in 1763 to serve as the home and shop for a well know cabinet maker in his day. Later, in 1795, the home was purchased by a sea captain who provided for his family during the heyday of Marblehead's cod fishing industry.

We purchased the home with the intent to maintain this piece of American history and to share it with visitors to the area. We embarked on a series of renovations, starting with the apartment, and continue to make improvements to the home so that it continues to shine for another 250+ years.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is a few short steps up from the street and is a fully private unit. We reside in rest of the house above and are on hand to answer any questions.

It has been completely updated and features all the modern amenities to make your stay comfortable while retaining the distinctive charm of its colonial roots.

From our location, you can walk everywhere in Marblehead and we are a short drive to Salem, Rockport and Glouster. Boston is accessible via car, commuter train, seasonal ferry (Salem) or Metro (Revere).

Great location, better apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the weekend and didn't want the weekend to end. Easy walk to shops and downtown. The apartment was modern and had everything you need for a stay. Dave and Cheryl were great host.

Lovely hospitable hosts

  • 3 of 5

The hosts are lovely people, the location is excellent, and the furnishings and appliances are top grade. But for the cold, rainy weather the stay would have been more comfortable since the accommodation is fairly small and dark.

I was sorry to find that the house had not been cleaned since the last occupants departed--urine and animal odors, smudged windows, appliances and mechanics, dusty floors and carpets, stove top and oven stained with food. It was similar to an apartment vacated by tenants and not cleaned for the incoming tenant (me) before arrival. The linens were clean as were the dishes, cutlery, and counter tops and furniture was dusted. However, I left the apartment cleaner than I found it notwithstanding that I paid for cleaning, as I am certain the previous occupant did.

I hope that Cheryl and David will find this feedback helpful so that their homey apartment can have the sustainable five-star reviews it deserves.

Owner's Response: Our primary goal as hosts is to make our guests' visits comfortable and enjoyable and we regret that your stay was not satisfactory. Since we live upstairs, we make it a practice to be available to speak with our guests upon arrival and throughout their visit to make sure everything meets their expectations and address any concerns they may have during their stay. Unfortunately, during our many conversations together you did not mention any issues that were affecting your stay. We would have dealt with them promptly! All rugs and upholstered furniture had just been professionally cleaned and we would have had the company return to deal with any odors you noticed. Likewise, our cleaning crew delivers a 1st class product (as other reviews have noted) and again, we would have been happy to have cleaned anything to your satisfaction. We wish we'd had the opportunity to rectify your concerns. We truly enjoy hosting and welcome feedback from our guests that helps us improve our service and make subsequent guest experiences even better.

Had a wonderful experience and an enjoyable time in Marblehead. David and Cheryl were very accommodating and their apartment was very charming. Could not have asked for a better location and the apartment was as advertised. Definitely am going to comeback!

Great location an overall great apt

  • 5 of 5

Unit is very close to many shops and restaurants and everything felt new in the apartment. Bathroom and Kitchen were great and the fireplace was a big plus (it was one of the coldest weekends of the year when we visited). We also really appreciated being able to have our dog with us.

Thank you! We may stay again!
