Quaint and unique

Loved the cuteness of the space. Although small, very eclectic in style and clean. I had a very good sleep. Clean sheets, comfortable bed and pillows. My husband, son and dog were supposed to go on the trip with me but they weren't able to come. I would venture to say that this property would be good for a couple and one child. The backyard is absolutely gorgeous! Finding the property was a little tricky with GPS. GPS was wrong and re-routed me a few times to another location. The property is actually above Wise Financial Building (Gay's business). This location is excellent for anyone who wants a quiet and comfortable space. There is a small bakery next door. It's the one thing I wished I tried! Looked delicious. A pharmacy, market, Subway, and other ammenities within walking distance. The beach is super close. Walking distance if you are in good health; if not, a short drive. Duncan is the closest city and only took me 10 minutes to drive to. I had to make an emergency trip in for a pair of shoes one hour before the wedding i was attending. Gay was super friendly and accommodating. And the price point was fantastic! I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!!

Owner's Response: I so enjoyed meeting and hosting Jerri, to seeing the bride and her retinue when they came here for some of their photos. I also loved how neat, tidy and clean everything was left. Definitely would look forward to a repeat visit.

Beautiful, centrally located, and cozy

Gay's place is wonderful-she was a great hostess, and the suite had more than we needed. We also loved the coffee shop next door-that was a nice touch. The air conditioning was superb-and we loved sitting out in the garden BBQ-ing in the evening. Finally-it'll we appreciated being able to bring our dog Barkley along-the suite was set up well for a small dog. I hope we get to come back-we will have fond family memories from our time here.

A very pleasant stay!

We enjoyed our stay with Gay very much! She is a very pleasant host. She has provided a very cozy and well provisioned space for visitors to spend some time just relaxing, reading or getting away. Space includes ample cooling for hot summer days too.

Perfect location for exploring the area

Lovely heritage home centrally located at shawnigan lake. It had all the mod cons and was perfect for our stay. Our pup loved being able to be outside in he garden. The air conditioning was an added bonus as the room is at the top of the house. This would be unbearable without ac. Nice feature that it is in both the kitchen/living area as well as the bedroom. The bakery and coffee shop next door were lovely. There isn't a real stove (cook top) but we didn't need one. We barbecued outside a couple of nights and then did take out from the Chippery across the road one night. The area has lots to see and do. We explored cowichan lake, hiked a few provincial parks, went to chemanius, and explored some of the local wineries. We also went to the west coast of the island and stopped in Victoria for dinner. Gay was a nice hostess and available if we needed her. We would stay here again if our travels took us this way.

I am an avid cyclist who doesn't have enough time to ride, but I'm working on that. I live and work on site, so I'm available when you need me. I'm also very active in the community being on the Board of the local Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce and a small Charitable Foundation.

Why Gay Wise chose Shawnigan Lake

I loved this house from the moment I first saw it 25 years ago. At that time it was the home of The Village Bed & Breakfast. The house and garden are right in the Village but amazingly private. Every day I think how fortunate I am to become part of the history of this house, to have the opportunity and pleasure of maintaining and restoring it.

What makes this apartment unique

Right in the middle of the action in Shawnigan Lake, but very private. A stone's throw from the public beach on the Lake. Bus stop within a block. Private parking for one car.

Shawnigan Lake is located in the Cowichan Valley, home to several wineries and small farmers. It is a cornucopia of fresh local food and excellent wine. Great network of quiet country roads for cycling, some routes more challenging than others.

The Cowichan Valley enjoys a mild climate, it is one of the warmest areas in Canada with little or no snow in the winter.
