About this property

Pretty flint cottage in tranquil setting close to coast and Walsingham shrines

POPPY COTTAGE is a newly-renovated terraced flint cottage with one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. There is a well-equipped kitchen, shower room, cosy front-room and porch/sunroom. Character features include an old water pump outside and Victorian stove (unused!). The lovely courtyard garden is secure and comes complete with an old apple tree. Bikes can be stored in a secure shed. Bedding and towels are provided, and there is Wifi. For children, there is a high chair, travel cot, toys and buckets/spades. Children will love the steam-powered Wells to Walsingham Light Railway! A short stroll through the peaceful village and across a ford will lead to Great Walsingham Barns (art centre and tearoom). On the way, you can see historic Berry Hall, where Henry VIII is said to have first met Anne Boleyn. Little Walsingham is within walking distance, where the shrines and abbey are located. There is also a farm shop, very good pubs and tearooms. Further afield, Wells-next-the-Sea is 10 minutes drive away (traditional seaside town with supermarket and petrol station) and Holkham Beach is nearby. This stunning beach has pine forests, sand dunes and is popular with bird watchers. There are many family attractions within driving distance (search for North Norfolk tourism online). Poppy Cottage is a lovely place for a break from the fast pace of life as it's so peaceful, but conveniently located. Please note this is an old Victorian farmworkers' cottage, and as such, the stairs are a quite steep. This is a dog-free property and so may be of interest to allergy sufferers.

Great location
Totally comfortable once we we able to control the temperatures ourselves. Prior to that they were remotely controlled.

Highly recommend
Lovely cottage. Very clean and well equipped. Beds and sofas very comfortable. The stairs are very steep do it was a little concerning with regards to the 3 year old falling down them when she woke first in the morning but the bathroom door actually opens perfectly onto the stairs and wedged nicely with a door wedge so served as a door to keep her safe. Really good size porch at the back of the house which was great for changing out of sandy shoes and storing cases etc. The owners provide a lovely collection of young childrens reading books, dvds and a really good collection of games, toys and puzzles so you can limit the amount you take with you (we didn't). The kite was a big hit. Our 5 year old proudly flew it on the beach. Village not really close to any beach but some lovely sandy beaches within 20 to 30 minutes in the car. A lovely stay all round.

A short break for walking and relaxation
A lovely property, clean, comfortable and all you need for a peaceful stay away from home. Lovely to have an outside area to sit with a morning coffee or evening drink. Communication with/from owner was excellent. Only slight drawback - which can't be helped in the rural location - is narrow road with no pavement walk into Walsingham centre, so take your wine/gin with you for the evening 😄

A little slice of heaven in Norfolk
This property was in a wonderful location for our purposes, namely, to do a short pilgrimage to Our Lady of Walsingham. We walked nearly everywhere except for a couple of dinners which weren't within easy walking distance. The home was quaint, very clean, and comfortable. The host gave good recommendations for touring locally, which we appreciated. This was our first time in the English countryside and it was absolutely stunning, plus the local folks we met were all very friendly. We would stay here again!

Poppy cottage
Everything was really nice. One thing perhaps a warning as to how steep the stairs are. The lower hand rail section is a bit loose just needs the screws tightened up. Very well equipped and decorated. Area handy for inland and coastal exploring.

We love our family cottage and have been enjoying happy holidays here since the late 1970s, when the cottage was bought by our Grandparents. Now lovingly refurbished for guests, whilst keeping the character features.

Why they chose this property

It's clean, cosy, well-equipped and being slightly further from Wells-next-the-Sea (4 miles) it won't break the bank. Lovely secure cottage garden.

What makes this property unique

A happy atmosphere pervades our cottage, and we have repeat guests who enjoy the peaceful and beautiful traditional Norfolk village.
