About this property

Semi detached cottage Pool, Private Terraces, Garden and Mountain Views

Apartment Rambla is very much a semi-detached cottage and has a private entrance, full self catering facilities and outside there are covered and open terraces with fabulous mountain views providing the perfect backdrop to alfresco dining or just supping a glass of the local tinto.

There is a spacious living room with ceiling fan, wooden shutters, central heating radiator and wood burning stove. A double bedroom with ceiling fan, wooden shutters, central heating radiator and built in wardrobe. The family bathroom has central heating radiator, bath with shower over along with WC and hand basin. The kitchen includes a gas oven and 3 ring hob, a fridge/freezer and microwave. Entertainment includes a DVD player with large DVD library, book library and board games.

Outside has 2 private terraces with BBQ and garden furniture. The east terrace greets the morning sun with a cup of coffee and the south terrace is south facing with oodles of sunshine.

The communal pool is shared with a maximum of 4 other persons, and was converted from the farm’s water storage. It is not a lounging pool. When guests are not in the village or exploring nearby, they spend most of their time in their own private garden and open and closed terraces with loungers and umbrellas and pop up to the pool to cool off before returning to their loungers to pick up their book or glass of wine or both!

Everything else you need can be found in the whitewashed village of Lubrin, adorned with bright geraniums and bougainvillea, endless sunshine and narrow cobbled streets leading to uncomplicated squares where butchers, bakers, tapas bars, supermarkets, ATM and just five minutes from your door.

Where to go and what to do!
The Cabo de Gata National Park is one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich coastal strips in the western Mediterranean and is the first Natural land and sea park in Andalucia. The drive takes just over an hour and the route down the mountain, via Nijar, is very dramatic. The park offers walks on marked trails and tracks amongst native scrub and grasses, amidst the scent of wild lemon balm and the distinctive aromas of curry plant and herbs. You are able to follow inland trails and coastline.

The ancient Andalusian city of Almeria(1 hour away) lies sheltered at the base of a bay, proudly dominated by the amazing Alcazaba, a huge Moorish citadel with three walled enclosures dating from 995.

The Alhambra in Granada is a very popular place to visit by our guests. It takes just 2 hours to drive to Granada along the Almeria to Sevilla motorway with stunning view. There is a shuttle bus that takes you from the Alhambra direct to the Plaza de Nueva where it’s a short walk to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel.

Best time to go
June to September for "chill" by way of R&R
October and November for an Indian Summer.
November through May for winter sun or self guided walking or cycling.
February for the start of Spring and the almond blossom.
March to May for bird watching and wildflowers.

8/10 Good

Relaxed get-away!
The apartment is just as described. And we were treated wonderfully by the "temporary" hosts as the permanent ones were on holiday. We nevertheless got a taste of John's responsiveness and generosity as he was very prompt and helpful in our pre-arrival communication. The setting is quite a beautiful and rural one. The walks that John provided were carefully and accurately described and made the perfect amusement for the peace and quiet we desired. As did the two sunny terraces for reading and wine or coffee or tea drinking. The kitchen facilities are simple but quite adequate. The washing machine welcome and the hot water plentiful. As is usual in Spanish stucco homes, the evenings can get cold. If you are put off by huddling under the wonderful down comforters or in front of the wood burning stove, , wait until the weather warms a bit more however. Days were sunny and warm outside regardless however. Lubrin itself is a sleepy town yet with everything one might need unless you crave a city's vibe. We drove to Almeria for a day to get our city fix. Quite easy. If relaxation and quiet and bird calls and sunshine are what you crave, this is your place.

10/10 Excellent

Brilliant hosts, lovely authentic location
Our hosts were fanatastic - nothing was too much trouble. The apartment was very comfortable and secluded. Lubrin is charming and unspoilt with lots of excellent places to eat at amazing prices - no real need to cook. It is very hilly so the walking is quite hard work. Some may find the countryside a bit bleak - especially in February when we went - although you grow to like it.

About the host

In 1998 my wife and I visited Almeria to look for a more permanent home for retirement but away from the mass tourism. We stumbled on Lubrin and within the first hour, as we sat in Bar Molino with our wine and tapas variadas, we knew that we had found our Spanish pueblo. After lunch we walked through the narrow streets and observed the children playing “shop” with their cardboard counters and toys they no longer needed. Groups of neighbours were sitting outside the houses talking and fanning themselves to keep cool. It was evident that the family unit was strong and this fact is very important to the reproduction and maintenance of social order. We bought an old cortijo on a 1hectare finca within a 5 minute walk of the centre of Lubrin. For the next 6 years we rehabilitated the building and converted the terraces into a series of terraced gardens with Almond, Olive and Pomegranate trees set in lawns with borders of Oleander and Grapevines. The old well near the Rambla was dry but we obtained permission to sink a borehole which now irrigates the gardens and fills the plunge pool converted from the original water deposit.

Why they chose this property

The landscaping in restful and relaxing. If you are looking for solace and tranquility and an unforgettable experience of Spanish mountain hospitality, from the delightful and charming villagers of Lubrin.
