Just pack your clothes and a toothbrush! This clean, large, light-filled, heart-of-historic Capitol Hill apartment comes with everything! A locked, gated courtyard leads to this fabulous, separate entrance apartment. Guests arrive to find a well-equipped kitchen (full-size, with granite counters) stocked with staples including coffee, tea, milk, honey, spices and cooking oils, fresh linens on the beds and clean, plush towels in the bathroom. Cable, Wi-Fi, 32-inch flat-screen TV, washer/dryer, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, independent heating and cooling system and off-street parking are also included. With a grocery store two blocks away, and an eat-in kitchen that seats four to five, guests have the choice of cooking or going out to any of the Hill's many restaurants. After a full day of sight-seeing, guests can sleep on the queen-size memory foam mattress in the master bedroom, and shower in the en suite bathroom. For parties of more than two, the living room daybed w/trundle sleeps two. A comfy roll-away bed is also available, as well as a baby crib, high-chair or booster seat. The apartment is in a lovely neighborhood. Part of the original Capitol Hill, guests are easily able to walk to the Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, National Mall, Smithsonian museums, Union Station and Union Station Metro. Just yards from the apartment is historic Stanton Park: for runners, 8 laps of the park is a mile. For parents of young children, Stanton Park has a gated playground. The neighborhood is also home to Capital Bikeshare stations, bookstores, corner stores, grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, the famous Eastern Market and a fabulous weekend flea market. Everything else in Washington, from the National Zoo to the Nationals' ball park, the White House, Ford's Theater, Chinatown, Georgetown, Arlington Cemetery, can be reached by Metro or the Circulator bus.
The C and O canal, parallel to the Potomac, is the center of the Appalachian Trail and beloved by hikers. Others go to the capitol on summer nights to listen to one of the military bands; others sail, fish or ride one of the sightseeing boats on the Potomac and go to Chestertown, Md., to shoot geese in the fall. On the Hill, however, we go biking (you can rent them everywhere); we swim at the Natatorium, our indoor pool; we go to the Hill Center on Pennsylvania Ave., S. E., which has activities every day; we pick up our gifts at the capitol or one of the museums, and we walk much more than we drive.
