After a full day of sight-seeing, guests can sleep on the queen-size memory foam mattress in the master bedroom, and shower in the attached bathroom. For parties of more than two, the living room daybed w/trundle sleeps two. A comfy roll-away bed is also available, as well as a baby crib, high-chair or booster seat. Nice spot
Location is awesome. Sketchy steps to get down there so be careful but the apartment was just as described. Really comfy bed and pillows. Some things were a little run down and I couldn’t get the TV to work, otherwise I would’ve ranked this higher. Place is appropriately priced for the area.

Visiting for a wedding
We had such a pleasant stay at this property! Me, my husband, and our two children (2&4) stayed here for 5 nights. It is a very clean, spacious, and the location is excellent. There is a nice park just a block away where our kids burned some energy. The location was very safe and also not far from museums and attractions. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. I will note that there were a lot of toiletry items in the bathroom. While this is nice in case guests forget things, it did take up the already limited space in the bathroom. As well as making the place feel kind of “lived in.” Not a big deal at all, just a note. Another note, the steps down into the apartment are extremely narrow and steep. We managed them fine, but if anyone has mobility issues it could be quite difficult to get into. We love the character in this home and would definitely stay again!

Best location, cozy apartment!
Our family of four absolutely loved this VRBO. The location is fantastic. Easy walk to the National Mall. Quick Uber service. Having a parking spot off the street was probably one of the very best parts! Very comfortable bed and amazing water pressure. We loved the quirky style and were well prepared by the other reviews for the unique entrance. If you read the check-in instructions carefully, it is easy! Woud definitely stay here again.

Felt a little mixed about the property. Location was great!. It was a little confusing to find and get into the property. The accommodations were great for a couple & small children. However, the daybed in the living space was extremely uncomfortable and the mattress needs to be much thicker and upgraded or replaced with a good sofa bed. This would allow comfort in the living space. The bathroom and kitchen were good!

disappointed
The property was located in a great area, however the unit itself was a disappointment. The stairs to get to the unit were dangerously positioned and difficult to get up and down for aged individuals. The shower area was in pretty bad shape with mold growing on the walls and floors in between the white tiles. The pots and pans were old and most of them were not safe to be used. The bathroom was located in the bedroom and made it difficult for other individuals sleeping in the living room to access in the middle of the night without waking up the other people. The unit was dark and not fun to stay in.

About the host

The Kelly family is the second family to live in the main house, which was built in 1876 by Maj. Samuel Walker for his family.

Why they chose this property

One of the premier properties on Capitol Hill, the carriage house, the stable and the east side of this Victorian house were completed in 1876. By 1886, Maj. Samuel Walker had more money and ten children so he added the west side of the house, the third floor and the porches in the style of Charles Eastlake, the English architect who simplified Victorian architecture and flattened its rounded gingerbread. All of the first floor ceilings—except the hall—are tin and so is a bedroom ceiling on the second floor.

What makes this property unique

One of the great pleasures of the house is that it remains much as it was when first built. Modernizing was done slowly, with care and caution. On the chance that electricity was just a fad, Major Walker only electrified every other arm of the chandeliers in the living room and the study and left the others as gas lights. The gaslights still work--and so does the electricity.
