Charming and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Perfect little place for two (a small family or close friends could make the sofa bed option work). We really liked the cabin size and décor. Very comfortable place to hang out. Close distance - 2 blocks - to historic downtown or the regional park and trail. The place was accommodating to well behaved dogs (Thanks Mitch). When we travel we are used to managing our dogs with tie-ups (cables), not letting them free in an unfenced area, so this place worked for us. The snow removal service had us spoiled but we still enjoyed removing it from the backyard. Gas stove inside and fire outside were a delight. Well-maintained accommodations. Thanks Mitch. We look forward to a return trip.

Suggestions:

-The bathroom could really use a fan (and/or a heater)... something to manage the moisture. We left the door open when we took showers.

-A more firm mattress (if that was memory foam, it didn't work for us but maybe comfortable for some).

-Provide area information and maps since not everyone is going to rely on smart phones or computers. We picked up several things from the visitors center and left them in the cabin for future guests.

-If the back yard (or part of front yard) was fenced-in that would be a bonus for a dog owner. Another option is to provide some sort of secure dog hitching post(s) to tie up dogs (we ended up using the big fire pit out back but needed a third cable to do that because of the diameter of base).

-Allow for some sort of cancellation policy (instead of all or nothing reservation) and/or date change options within reason.

Very nice

  • 5 of 5

First class place. Because of size, best suited for just two people. Mitch was a great host, available if needed. Convenient location.

Cabin was perfect. All up to date appliances. We spent a lot of time on the patio firepit was a nice touch. It is a 20 minute walk to downtown. Good restaurants. Tahoe is so close great beaches there!!

Cute gem close to Truckee!

  • 4 of 5

Positives

- Very nice little cabin, got everything you need.

- Nice little details, amazing bathroom and kitchen.

- Very cool BBQ and outside patio.

- Super clean, nice bedding and pillows etc.

- Very nice washer / dryer. We came home with clean clothes!

Room for improvement

- Outdoor garden area is soil only, no grass.

- There was broken glass all over the place outdoors in the garden.

- We had a dog and that fact that the outdoor area was open to the street prevented us to let our puppy run (another reason was the glass shards everywhere). A closed off garden would be oustanding!

Overall very satisfied, would definitely stay there again!

Great location, but for price point things are missing

  • 3 of 5

The cabin is very cute and the location couldn't be better. If you want to be in walking distance of Truckee then this is the place to be. The reason we gave this 3 stars is because of two reasons. First, the dog friendly-ness of this place is not very dog friendly. There are no gates to block off the backyard so your pet can easily run out to the front yard and toward the street. The street doesn't have much traffic so its not dangerous per say, but if you have dogs you have to be watching them 100% of the time, you cannot simply let them out for a quick potty break alone. I should also mention by no means were we wanting to leave them out there for an extended period of time. Something else regarding the pet friendly aspect was the owner sent us information regarding our stay at the cabin and he made a note that the pets must relieve themselves "OFF" the property, which we thought was ridiculous. If you're going to allow pets to rent your property you should not have to walk off the property every single time. Lastly, one should note the backyard has a patio but beyond that and also in the front yard is just weeds and our dogs picked up a few stickers while being there. I can imagine if this property was landscaped it would be much more dog friendly and very beautiful. The last reason for the three stars is that there is no A/C. I must have missed that in the listing, but it was in the 90's all four days of our stay and it was an oven in the house, even with the windows open. Partly my fault for not noticing, but if you have a hard time sleeping in a hot environment then this cabin will be difficult for you. I can imagine during winter this would be the absolute perfect place to stay when it is cold out and snow is on the ground. Overall, we had a great time walking into Truckee with our dogs and we loved the location.
