Whether you are looking for a family getaway, a fishing and snorkeling excursion, a kiteboarding adventure, or just days spent walking the deserted beaches, this is the perfect destination for you.
Our beautiful townhouse is located in the idyllic Great Harbour Cay Marina. It has a private dock that can accommodate your own boat or a rental that we can help arrange for you. One side of the dock has a floating dock that can fit up to a 36 ft boat, while the other side of the dock can fit up to a 60ft boat, including sailboats, with dockside power and water provided.
The Townhouse has great views of the marina from the front deck, and perfect sunset cocktail vistas from the rear deck. You can walk about a mile to sandy beaches on the other side of the island, ride one of the 4 bikes we have available for your use, call a taxi for a ride, or we can arrange for a rental car.
Food shopping and restaurants are within a 5 minute drive from the Townhouse.
The Townhouse has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a king bed and one with two single beds. Each bedroom has its own recently renovated bathroom, as well as its own deck outside the floor to ceiling glass doors.
On the first floor is a huge kitchen including a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, and even a cappuccino maker.
There is a third bathroom, as well as full size washer and dryer, and a comfortable modern living room with a brand new sofa bed and furnishings.
There is a large flat screen TV with DirectTV, a multimedia stereo system including AppleTV, a phone for free local calls, and free wifi.
The huge overwater deck outside the living room is appointed with comfortable new furniture and the perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast or spending the afternoon reading a book. The front deck has amazing views of the sunsets, which cannot be beat!
One of the main reasons we, as well as our guests, love this place so much is that it is not at all touristy and is truly a tropical paradise destination. Escape the hotels, traffic, and noise of other more crowded islands. This makes it a little more complicated to get to our island home, but is certainly worth the effort. Some of the most commonly asked questions by renters are:
1. How do I get to your island?
There is an airport on Great Harbour Cay, and is usually accessed either from Nassau or Florida.
If you fly into Nassau (NAS) there are two regularly scheduled flights each day on Le Air at 7:50am and 4:30pm from Nassau to Great Harbour Cay, returning from Great Harbour to Nassau at 8:20am and 5:00pm, and the flight is about 17 minutes. The flights are reliable and cost $140- $160 per person round trip.
Alternatively Le Air offers charters on their smaller plane that carries up to 5 passengers, and they charge $510 each way for up to 5 people. The advantage of their charter is that you can pick the times yourself.
The other option is to fly from Opa Locka Airport, which is about half way between Miami Airport and Ft. Lauderdale Airport to get a direct charter flight to Great Harbour. We have flown for over 15 years with Markus of Air Charter Miami and they are very safe and reliable. The flight is 45-50 min and carries up to 8 passengers. You can reach them at (305) 333-9263
If there are just 2-4 people, it may be more economical for you to fly through Ft. Lauderdale with Tropical Ocean Airways on their regularly scheduled flights on Fridays and Sundays, which cost about $614 per person round trip including taxes and fees:
Departure in FLL at 1:00 PM, arriving in Great Harbour at 1:50 PM
Departure from Great Harbour at 2:30 PM, arriving in FLL at 3:20 PM
We are happy to help coordinate flights for you.
2. Is there shopping on Great Harbour Cay?
There are two grocery stores and a couple of liquor stores on the island. There are plenty of non perishables for sale on the island like drinks, bread, pasta, cereal, as well as milk, butter, etc. However we recommend that our renters purchase their fresh fruits and veggies as well as steak, chicken, and cold cuts either in Nassau or Florida (depending on where you fly from) and bring them with you on the plane. If you have at least a 3 hour layover in Nassau, we know a driver who can pick you up at the airport, take you grocery shopping, and then bring you back to the airport in time for your onward flight to Great Harbour.
There is also a great new shopping service in Nassau where you can order your groceries ahead of time on line, and they will be delivered via the daily flights from Nassau on LeAir. You can even order before your trip and we will pick them up and have your kitchen stocked for you with the groceries that you order!
3. Are there restaurants on the island?
There are several good restaurants on the island, and some notable ones are-
Beach Club: about a 5 minute drive from our property. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday and then sometimes on Fri and Sat they serve dinner too. Best cheeseburgers ever.
Coolie Mae's: Cute restaurant in town on a hill with great sunset views. Really good fish and conch.
Carrie Earl: A British couple runs the restaurant here and it is a really good mix of European and Bahamian food, with a great bar.
There is also often fun BBQs at the Marina - you can check with them during your stay for the latest schedule.
There are several other small restaurants as well.
4. Do you have a coffee maker?
Yes! We have a Tassimo single cup coffee maker that uses "t-pods". We have dozens of pods there for you that come in about 6-8 different flavors. We also have a traditional coffee maker if you want to bring your own ground beans.
5. Do we need a car?
We do have bikes available for your use, but you will find a car convenient if you do decide to venture away from the Townhouse. Most things are within 2-3 miles, but in the sun and with a few hills this can get far by bike. We can arrange a rental of a car or golf cart for you.
6. How do I get to your property?
Our property manager Wally, who is somewhat of a celebrity on the island and is immediately loved by our guests, will pick you up at the airport and bring you to our property (about a 5 minute drive). He will also get you oriented as to where the shops and restaurants are located, and provide any local knowledge you desire. He also makes an amazing coconut milk drink!
Four generations of our family have enjoyed the wonders of Great Harbour Cay, and we are the original owners of this property. This truly is our family home, and we are happy to be able to share it with those looking to experience the magic of the island.
Darin purchased this townhome in 1969
in 1969 our family first visited Great Harbour Cay, and before the afternoon was out they fell in love with the Island and purchased this townhouse - even though it was still under construction at the time! The beaches on the island are among the most beautiful in the world, and you will never meet friendlier people than those from Great Harbour Cay.
We picked this particular townhouse because of its amazing location. It is an end unit with a double sided dock, able to accommodate even 60 ft long sailboats. We have installed modern 110/240V dock power and water. The house has its own reverse osmosis water purification systems, meaning you will always have clean, safe. and tasty water to drink right from the tap. The front deck has perfect views of the entire marina, and the rear deck directly faces the open view of the overwater sunset.
Same
Unfortunately the last day we were there,we lost power and it was 150 degrees.
Tried to find a way to get a hold of the owner to get a one night refund (because we couldnt stay there with no powet). I cant reach the owner so I cant give a 5 star (Wally was great tho)
We stayed at this unit for two nights as part of our home base on a fishing trip. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Plenty of towels and a washer and dryer. The kitchen was fully stocked and the internet was great. Satellite tv working perfect. The dock had shore power, water with a hose and a filet table. The manager of the unit was very helpful and attentive. Only negative was that the shower water was barely warm and there wasn't any soap or shampoo. Otherwise a great stay.
Thanks Darin for your great communication during our stay. Very appreciative of everything and look forward to returning.
Having the boat docked right underneath the condo was awesome since many of our family members stayed on the boat. The condo was clean and cool and we did all our cooking and eating there. The kitchen was very well stocked and good appliances. The washer was not working well so we did very little washing , but Wally, the manager, took all our wet beach towels and washed them and brought them back the next day. He also took us to get the golf cart. A word of caution, everything on the island has to be paid in cash and we did not know this. Make sure you
make golf cart reservations with plenty of time and directly with the owner. The golf cart we rented left members of my family stranded coming back from the beach. It got a flat, but again Wally to the rescue. He changed the tire and we got it back. We had paid in cash so no way to get money back. Finally, the water in the condo stopped working. I called Wally and he got the plumber to the rescue and within 1 hour the water pressure was restored. Anyway, the condo was very comfortable, the dock excellent, with power and water included, just make sure you get Wally's number from Darin! He keeps it all together.
Kitchen had an ant problem, tub backs up and toilets required plunging. Dusty in certain areas but very clean linens and equipped kitchen. Nice views and cozy.
