Most businesses, if not all, have reopened and are eager for tourists, vacationers, and returning guests, etc., to come to Vieques during the remaining "high" season-typically Dec-Apr.

Car rental agencies, supermarkets, neighborhood colmados-(small convenience type stores), and some Bio Bay Tour operators are all open and available for business.

In Esperanza, most of the restaurants along the Malecon have reopened.

The Beaches are still Sandy, the Water is still a Tropical Blue, and the Weather is still Beautiful, currently averaging in the 80*'s

Do a guided night kayak tour to witness the remarkable and mysterious greenish blue glow of the Dinoflagellates in Mosquito Bay-the worlds brightest Bioluminescent Bay

Experience beautiful, secluded tropical beaches that you will most likely have all to yourself!

A short 1 Block walk to the Malecon, but far enough away as not to be affected by the sometimes boisterous late nights. A 1 block easy walk to several beaches. And an easy 2 block walk to restaurants/bars. A very short walk to Lydia's Colmado, (neighborhood market), which is convenient for any small items.

Sit out on the front porch and watch as horses freely roam the neighborhood, looking for the greenest grass to nibble on!

While you don't need a rental vehicle since all of Esperanza and several beaches are within easy walking distance, you may wish to rent one to explore all that Isla Nena has to offer, including the numerous beaches within the Wildlife Refuge.

Dos Palmas is located in a nice residential neighborhood with great neighbors, a mix of local residents and rental properties.

There are dogs, cats, chickens, horses, iguanas, and mongoose that freely roam Vieques, and at times the neighborhood as well. You will undoubtedly see and hear several varieties of Vieques wildlife during your stay. It's totally different than our neighborhood in the states, and that's why we love it as we do.


Vieques can seem to be a little daunting to get to at first glance, the good news is that once you do arrive you won't want to leave!

There are several options in traveling from SJU to Vieques, and the price for each can vary greatly. When guests book with us we send them an email detailing the options available, along with the most up to date pricing to help them decide which option would work best depending on their budget and travel times.

About Chip & Angie Hicks

After traveling to various islands in the Caribbean, we knew immediately we had found 'Our Island' on our first trip to Vieques. After several trips we found our home, and we hope to share it with others so they may discover the beauty of Vieques for themselves.

In our travels we always stayed at small family owned places with a self contained kitchen for the option of eating in. Our kitchen is well stocked so that could be an option on your vacation as well, though we do recommend sampling some of the many restaurant options Esperanza and the Island have.

Dos Palmas was perfect !

My wife and I had planned a cruise out of San Juan in April, but at the last minute the cruise was shortened due to a mechanical issue and we found ourselves with 4 nights in Puerto Rico and wanted to try something new. Friends of ours had been to Vieques, raved about it, and thus it was on our "bucket list". So we decided at the last minute to go there. We were very fortunate that Dos Palmas was available! It is in the heart of Esperanza in a residential neighborhood and a five minute walk to the Malecon, Esperanza Beach, and Sun Bay which was spectacular. We also took a short cab ride to Caracas Beach which is probably one of the nicest we have ever been to. We wanted to get a rental car, but it was a holiday week and given the last minute nature of the trip there were no cars available. Honestly, that worked out just fine because we could walk almost anywhere and the cabs were very reasonable and on time.

The home was very nicely furnished, tastefully decorated, impeccably clean and well stocked with anything you needed for the stay with towels, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, kitchen spices, etc. It was like we never left home ! All you really need to do is bring yourself and everything else you need is there ! We really liked the book left in the living room with brochures on where to go, where to eat, etc.

The owners, Chip and Angie, were great to deal with and helpful in booking the home and answering questions we had.

My wife and I are also VRBO owners for a home on the Outer Bank of North Carolina and we know the effort and care it takes to make a great vacation home and experience. Chip and Angie get a "10" in our books for this wonderful home. You can really tell they care about it and want their guests to have a great vacation.

The wild horses were fun to watch as they walked down the street and we enjoyed the wildlife around us. Regarding the roosters - - it is a tropical island and wildlife is everywhere. We actually enjoyed seeing and hearing them ! It truly beats the sounds of traffic, sirens, car horns, and all the city noises back home any day !!!

Great family vacation

We loved the home, clean, anoaded with all the goodies like chairs, snorkelgear etc. fit perfect with our family of five. Very central location with minutes walk to our favorite bakery and the maleclon. Yes there are plenty of roosters. It welcome to vieques. Great place to stay

A fantastic house with Everything you could need. We were really impressed by how well it was stocked! It made it very easy for us traveling with 5 year old twins. The house was great- had everything we needed! The chickens, passing cars and neighbor dog were very loud- which is hard with little ones that won't keep in the earplugs. Otherwise wonderful.

Great Location, Incredibly Noisy

Loved the location. The apartment is only a couple blocks from the Malecon (a.k.a. boardwalk) in Esperanza where there are a lot of great restaurants. Our favorite was "Bananas". The Malecon has a wonderful paved walk along the ocean as well as a small beach at the end. Many of the tour operators have kiosks there, too. There is a sweet little bakery and a convenience store just around the corner. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed, including ear plugs in every bedroom. That's the down side. If you are looking for a place where you can sleep in while on vacation, this is not the place for you. The apartment is not air conditioned (except for the master bedroom) which is fine as far as temperature is concerned because there is a wonderful breeze and fans in every room. However, it means that you can't close the windows and stay comfortable, so every morning between 4:00am and 5:30am, the roosters (yes, plural) will wake you with their continuous crowing. The neighbor's tv/radio is turned on around 6:00am. Their dog, which is chained outside, barks during the night. I actually found the cocquis to be rather soothing. Next time we go to Vieques, I think we'll try to find a place where we can close the windows to help dampen the noise.

Unfortunately the dogs and chickens are part of island life, which is beyond our control. The ear plugs are made available in case they are bothersome, which is a common practice among most guest homes.

Dos Palmas was Perfect!

This was our second multi-generational family trip to Vieques (grandparents, their children and grandchildren). We rented both units at Dos Palmas and it couldn't have worked out better for us. After making the reservations, Chip and Angie were really prompt at communicating, and they sent a lot of helpful information for the trip.

Miguel met us when we arrived and gave us a thorough tour of the house. It was great to discover that everything we needed was there -- plenty of beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers, plus all of the household and toiletry items you need for a comfortable stay. Each unit has an air conditioner, but the breezes and the fans keep the house feeling great -- AC was not necessary at all. The decor was lovely and the furniture was comfy -- it really feels like a home.

The lower unit was great for the "seniors" so they could have some privacy as well as not having to go upstairs all the time. The upper unit was the "entertainment center" -- cooking, games, socializing mostly happened upstairs. We spent a lot of time on the porches of both units -- often when the upper porch was in the sunlight the lower porch was shady, so we went back and forth between the two. We love hanging out on the porch watching the happenings in the neighborhood -- lots of horses, chickens, dogs, cats, and one day a scarlet macaw landed on the neighbor's tree -- what a treat! Nico (Miguel's dog) liked to join us on the porch for some petting time.

The location of Dos Palmas is so great -- just around the corner from Colmado Lydia and the bakery, and only a few minutes walk to the Malecon. But, it's far enough away from the "action" that it's a peaceful place to come home to.
