This property is our family guest house. We enjoy sharing it with good people when our grown children and their families are not visiting. The Owl's Nest, named so for the late nights our family worked on it, is well located close to Helen, Clarksville, Cleveland, and Dahlonega. You are just a short drive away from everything in this area.
This cottage is newly renovated from top to bottom. Although there is no access to the river, the cottage is close enough to the Chattahoochee River to hear the shoals. There is no view of the river from the cottage in the summer months because of the rich canopy; however, in the fall and winter you can see dappled views from the fire pit area and deck.
The cottage has all the basics. Our children made sure it would have everything they needed when they visited, so it does have all essentials plus some: television, Direct TV, landline telephone, DVD player, movies, games and Wifi. There is also a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, crock pot, toaster and a washer/dryer(he). The kitchen contains cookware and utensils, and even some extras. Coffee, salt and pepper, coffee filters and all dishes, glasses and cookware are provided. One roll of paper towel, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish towels, trash bags, tissue, hand soap, bath soap, towels and sheets are all there. All you need to do is walk in, unpack, put up your groceries and enjoy!
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, the upstairs bedroom has a full size bed, and the sofa-bed (which is very nice, Sterns and Foster) is a queen.
The house features a covered deck with a gas grill and a fire pit area with Adirondack seating and picnic table.
There is ample parking space, so you may want to bring your kayaks or trailer. Wildwood Outfitters, 5 minutes away, also rents kayaks and has tours. We suggest putting in at Wildwood and taking out at Mossy Creek. Wildwood is set up to help you do this.
There are wineries, antiques, gold and gem mines, mountain restaurants, pony rides, zip lines, cabbage patch babies, kayaking, tubing, water falls, rivers... There is always something to do in north Georgia.
You can hear the Chattahoochee River from the deck of this lovely cottage. ,This section of Chattahoochee is called the living river because of the shoals and falls. Guests love fishing, swimming, and kayaking in the 'Hooch'.
The cottage is located within minutes of Helen- the Alpine Mountain Village-, Tallulah Falls and Tallulah Gorge - where hiking trails are great fun-, and Dahlonega - where GOLD was discovered in Georgia. You can pan for gold and gem stones at several locations. While in Helen, don't miss Unicoi State Park. Cleveland, only minutes away, is where you can find Baby Land General - The Cabbage Patch Babies!
There are many wineries located in this area and wine tastings held daily. You can also visit Clayton and Dillard where the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are stunning. Be sure to eat at the Dillard House! There is NO food like it on the planet.
The Upper Chattahoochee and the Soque Rivers are world renowned for their trout.
There are also many festivals held in the area: gold, apple, mountain laurel, arts and crafts, wine, and on and on. There is always something going on.
