About the property

Large 4 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom With An Amazing View On The River

Some highlights:

- Located on a small family farm on beautiful Ile d'Orléans (long walks)

- Amazing view on the St-Lawrence River

- Beautiful stone fireplace to relax in the evening

- 25 minutes drive to old Quebec City

Welcome to the gardener´s house, located on a peaceful farm on beautiful Ile d´Orléans, yet only a 25 minutes drive from old Quebec City.

This is a large 50´ by 25´house built in 1937 and moved to its actual location in 2008 (ask us the story!) . The house is located about 900 meters from the road, on a hill that allows a great view on the river. Your neighbours will be a closed Golf course and a quiet potato field.

The house can accommodate up to 8 adults between its 4 bedrooms (1x queen and 3x double bed, plus an extra twin bed upstairs).

You will be able to take long walks through the field and the forests at the center of the Island without leaving the property. If you are lucky and visit during the maple syrup season, you will visit our family-operated sugar shack operated in the traditional way.

Our guests appreciate the view, the calmness of the island and the possibility of quick daytrips to the city.

We have recently acquired a three-stars rating from the CITQ, the official tourist accomodation rating system of the Government of Quebec.

Bedding and towels included.

********** IMPORTANT ************************************

There is a 2-bedrooms appartment downstairs with a separate entrance. From the end of April to the end of October we host up to 4 of our farm workers there. They are family men from Guatemala, and they have been with us for 8 years and they have our total trust.

A recent review on a competitor's website describes them as "quiet, discreet and friendly". We have never had a complaint from our guests, but we believe in preventing surprises.

A car is required to get to and from our house. We offer a minivan for rental on the Turo website. Here is a link to our van :

Here is also a referral for Turo to get a 25$USD credit on your first rental :

Some useful links and activity ideas

-Le moulin de Saint-Laurent, a gourmet restaurant is just down the hill for a special treat.

-Ecolocyclo, a bike rental company, is located at the entrance of the Island.

-If you want to go fishing, la 'ferme piscicole Richard Boily' has a few lakes on the Island where you can go fish. They provide the equipment and no permit is required since this a fish farm. You are guaranteed to catch something for dinner.

-La Boulange is the neighbouring village's bakery and cafe (5 minutes drive). It is also located next to the hockey rink if you are so inclined.

-Make sure to visit the tourism office when you enter the island.

-For a special Quebec city tour, the compagnie des six associés has some nice walking tours

-There are 2 tennis courts located at the village park (5 minutes drive), bring your raquets.

- The Baie de Beauport is an actual sand beach just across the bridge. You can rent a canoe or a kayak. There is also a BMX trail, and they rent BMXs.

-Le Massif de Charlevoix is Quebec's highest ski mountain. It's distinguishing feature is that you ski down toward the river (instead of just another mountain)

-The local library is open 4 days a week if you are short on reading. It is also a short drive from the house.

About Yves Coulombe

I am a zucchini farmer and the mayor of our little community.

Yves Coulombe purchased this house in 2000

Why Yves Coulombe chose Sainte-Pétronille

Our family has lived on this island as farmers since 1663. I will be your neighbour, living about 100 meters from you. I have dreamed to buy this land and build a house on this spot since I was born on the neighbouring farm.

What makes this house unique

This is the perfect house to retreat next to a fireplace after taking a long walk on the farm or spending the day discovering either old Quebec City or the island.

Alternatively, make that fire outside in the firepit and gaze at the stars.

Beautiful View and Wonderful Island!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in September for a week. We loved the area, the island of Ile D'Orleans was lovely.

The house was roomy, we only had four people so there was plenty of room. It is on a dirt road, so it was sometimes dusty and a little rough. I would say the only issue we had was the bathrooms. The downstairs bathroom shower stall was small as was the bathroom in general. The upstairs bathroom had a bathtub with a slanted ceiling so you basically had to sit in the tub and use a hand held shower head to rinse off, easy to bump your head. It would help to have a shower curtain somehow attached to the upstairs bathroom.

The owner was very helpful and before we actually arrived, we had all our questions answered via email.

Great property in a beautiful area. Well worth the stay!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at this beautiful property for a week ( 08/05 to 08/12/17) and was very pleased.

It was clean and very comfortable. The owner Yves and his son Simon were very helpful

and easy to deal with. I highly recommend staying at this location. John G. Pittsburgh PA.

Beautiful home, beautiful view, hospitable hosts

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early our first day, but there was no problem moving right in. Yves, our host, was there to greet us. The view of the southern side of the St. Lawrence River is spectacular. The home is beautiful and enjoys good air circulation and natural lightscapes. The kitchen was great for preparing meals, which we did all but one night.

The home is a true vacation home, a welcome respite, and good launching pad for exploring Quebec City, Jean-Cartier Park, or even trekking the 2hrs 45 min to the north to go whale watching.

It is also very kid friendly.

The hosts are gracious and fun to chat with.

The only downside was the local town's, St-Laurent, main street was under construction. This is slated to be done in the early fall.

Peaceful Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

We loved this charming farmhouse and it was just as depicted in the photos and in fact better in real life! It was quiet and we enjoyed the lovely breezes coming through the windows at night and the songs of the birds in the morning. We sat on the front porch with coffee in the morning and enjoyed the view. We were grateful for the boxes of toys we found in the cupboard upstairs and our daughter played with them every day. It was fun to look at all the lovely bedrooms and decide where to sleep :) There were just three of us but the house could easily hold a large family. We walked around the grounds in the evening and drove around the lovely island in the day. It was a fabulous visit overall and we felt very welcomed!

A relaxing escape to the beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited the lovely Ile d'Orleans last fall to celebrate my husband's birthday, and re-acquaint ourselves with this favorite Canadian destination. Yves, the owner of La Maison du Jardinier, is a real delight - friendly, helpful and generous. The farmhouse offers plenty of space and lovely views of the surrounding countryside. One special highlight was watching a windy rainstorm while seated comfortably outside on the large front porch. The porch is somehow perfectly designed to allow us to experience the storm without getting wet or windblown. The road to the property is rustic and quite bumpy, but very pretty nonetheless. The property wasn't scheduled to be occupied immediately following our stay, so Yves kindly offered to let us stay an additional night at no charge. We needed to get back to work in the US, so we didn't accept his offer, but we were most impressed with his generosity! My husband was thrilled with his birthday destination, and left relaxed, rejuvenated and very happy. Many thanks, Yves!
