About the property

Bedroom 1, Bathroom 1, Sleeps 4

Combining the nation’s most prestigious historic neighborhood, classic Capitol Hill architecture and modern comfort, our one bedroom, one bathroom street level flat will delight you with amenities, style and convenience to historical landmarks in the nation’s capital. Perfect for one to four people, we provide the fullest experience that Washington D.C. has to offer. In fact, you can experience the nation's capital just as President Obama did when he was a U.S. Senator living on 'the Hill' -- he lived about 25 yards away from our door in another amazing home!

And, if you REALY want to stay in the hear of DC in our great flat on the Hill, please make us an offer and just email us -- I bet we can make it work!

About Our Flat:

Our flat features a medium sized master bedroom with a queen bed and flat screen TV, full bathroom with bathtub and plenty of closet space. In the open concept living area, there is a working fireplace, delightfully accented with art and photography highlighting this wonderful city and an original brick wall unique to Capitol Hill running the length of the interior. There is also a leather couch/seating area, two coffee tables and an additional flat screen TV with full cable (high speed WiFi is also provided throughout the unit).

Special Features:

For those desiring the complete experience, we offer an open kitchen equipped with utensils, plates and glassware, refrigerator, oven/stove, toaster, coffee maker, French press, microwave, and garbage disposal. We also provide a shopping cart with wheels perfect for a short walk to Eastern Market to buy your fresh and local produce, meats, cheeses and even artisan crafts. Opening to a breakfast nook, the kitchen fits 4-5 people and soaks up natural light in the morning. At night dim the lights for a romantic dinner looking out onto C Street and enjoying some of the best wines around from the world famous Schneider's of Capitol Hill just two blocks away. The entire flat includes: bedding/linens, queen sized blow up mattress, towels, washer/dryer, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap and hand soap, kitchen rags (coffee, tea and sugar are on the house).

Location, Location, Location:

The central location of our unit in Capitol Hill is a wonderful addition to why our home is perfect for your stay. The preferred method of transportation is by foot, with the U.S. Capitol only blocks away and there is also easily accessible street parking and a Capitol Bikeshare station, the city’s public bike system, close by. If you’ll be utilizing our subway system, the Metro, Union Station red line Metro stop is only a few blocks away (we absolutely encourage the use of our clean and safe public transit system). If you are bringing a car, street parking is available and we will get you the pass (let us know ahead of time so we can provide you with a temporary parking permit - there is a $30 charge that will cover the duration of the stay). However you choose your means of transportation, our flat’s proximity to the offerings of D.C. will make your trip more enjoyable and memorable. A tree lined walk across the street guides you along the monuments that make Washington a destination; the U.S. Capitol Building, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, National Mall, Smithsonian Museums and The White House, to name a few. Just blocks away, the Noma/H Street corridor showcases newly opened restaurants and shops that are generating some of the hottest buzz in the city. Eastern Market and Pennsylvania Avenue offer even more to take in -- Barracks Row featuring hip bars and restaurants. Other local attractions include baseball at Nationals Park, D.C. United soccer games at grand RFK Stadium, the Verizon Center for top-notch shows, professional hockey, and professional basketball (all are less than 2 miles away). If you prefer the arts, the Shakespeare Theater Company at Sidney Harmon Hall, free outdoor world class jazz concerts at the Sculpture Garden in late May through September and “Screen on the Green” outdoor classic film viewing with the Capitol as the backdrop. Shopping malls are close by too in Georgetown, Pentagon City, and recently opened Tanger Outlet Mall at the National Harbor.

Capitol Hill, aside from being a synonym for the seat of the United States Congress, is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington D.C., stretching east in front of the U.S. Capitol along wide avenues. The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast, and a large portion is now designated as the Capitol Hill historic district, where our house is located. The name Capitol Hill is often used to refer to both the historic district and to the larger neighborhood around it.

Capitol Hill's landmarks include not only the United States Capitol, but also the Senate and House office buildings, the Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks, the Washington Navy Yard, Nationals Park (the home of the Washington Nationals baseball team) and Eastern Market.

Eastern Market is an 1873 public market on 7th Street SE, where vendors sell fresh meat and produce in indoor stalls and at outdoor farmers' stands. It is also the site of an outdoor local arts and crafts market every weekend.

Capitol Hill is largely a residential neighborhood (where we have been proud to call home for 10 years) composed predominantly of rowhouses of different stylistic varieties and periods. Side by side exist early 19th century manor houses, Federal townhouses, small frame dwellings, ornate Italianate bracketed houses, and the late 19th century press brick row houses with their often whimsical decorative elements.
