Photos and Description of the Victoria West vacation house rental

We offer a beautifully furnished 1 or 2 bedroom suite in a lovely heritage home for those wanting a self catered place of their own while visiting Victoria. The whole main floor of the home is available. We have recently renovated and everyone that sees it just loves it; it is a great space. The second bedroom is separate from the main living area, and is not connected to the self contained suite (living room, first bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/dining area) - so might be better for older children, another couple, relative, friend, etc. The whole main floor is private and secure, but the second bedroom is accessed through the common lobby. There is a layout of the main floor under photos.

The lobby area is lovely, and there is a spacious bright living room with beautiful original stained glass windows, gas fireplace and hard wood floors. The large sunny kitchen is equipped with all appliances, dishes and cooking necessities. We recently installed a new stove and microwave; it makes a great cooking area. There are two good sized bedrooms and a large bathroom.

There is a lovely outdoor space with a stone patio and a pretty garden in the back. It is a great space for kids to run around and play, and the stone patio is a nice sunny spot with a small table and chairs. There are oak trees in the back and rock gardens full of perennials, lilac trees and annuals.

Please contact us if you are looking for a place of your own that is relaxing, beautifully decorated and close to the heart of Victoria, BC. We are a block from the harbour, and a 20 minute walk to downtown Victoria along the beautiful Songhees Walkway.

Ian and I live on the second floor in another suite; both spaces are private and locked. Because of the solid construction of the home there is minimal noise transfer, which is nice.

For those wanting a longer stay, this 1000 sq ft suite would suit a professional person or couple, who appreciate quality furnishings in a great location conveniently close to shops and other amenities. Unrestricted on-street parking is available at the front of the house. All utilities are included.

Amenities include: New front-load washer and dryer, linens, towels, cooking utensils, TV, DVD player, free wifi, stereo, stove, fridge, dishwasher, iron and ironing board, bbq, etc. All rooms are fully equipped and ready for moving in.

There is so much to see in Victoria and on Southern Vancouver Island. Victoria is a beautiful city with lovely neighbourhoods, dramatic scenery and a lively downtown with great restaurants and shops. Chinatown is fantastic with its hidden alleys to wander and authentic restaurants.

Some of our favourite restaurants are Red Fish Blue Fish, Il Terrazzo, Pig, Saigon Nights and Prima Strada Pizzeria.

There are great festivals all summer long, and we love the Blues Festival and the Busker Festival. The Busker Festival takes place in mid July and runs for about 10 days. If you get a chance to see it I am sure you will love it; it is very funny and the acts are interesting and original.

Driving out of Victoria along the West Coast on Highway 14 takes you to Sooke, Jordan River and Port Renfrew. China Beach, French Beach and Mystic Beach are some of the beaches along the way - they are all beautiful and have day camping and camping facilities.

It is a stunning drive that personifies our lush scenery with its ocean views, old growth rainforest and backdrop of the Olympic Mountains.

Some of our other favourite spots are Cowichan Lake, Cowichan Bay and the entire Cowichan Valley which is filled with wineries and pretty winding roads.

But I have to save the best for last. For a beautiful weekend getaway you can head up island on the Old Island Highway (Highway 19A) to Buckley Bay (about 2.5 hours), take the ferry to Denman Island, then another short ferry to Hornby Island. In under an hour you will discover a beautiful semi-tropical oasis. Hornby Island is a great weekend spot for swimming in the warmest water on Vancouver Island, walking the fossil filled beaches and hiking through Helliwell Park. Beautiful silvered cedar cottages and imaginatively designed homes are hidden down pretty roads with views over such places as Grassy Point or Whaling Station Bay. This is a special place.

  • There are two bedrooms with queen size beds. The back bedroom has a new bed, new carpet and beautiful high thread count sheets. It is a lovely room to relax and rest in. The second bedroom is bright, with new linens, high thread count sheets and lovely antique furniture.

Notes:
We are very happy with Sweet Oaks, and those that have stayed here comment on how it feels like home to them. We have enjoyed renovating and decorating our home, and the whole space is very warm and inviting as well as functional. The backyard with its stone patio and rock gardens is a pretty and sunny spot to relax. There is a public tennis court and playground at Braden Park a block away facing the harbour front of Victoria. The walk along the waterfront to downtown Victoria is beautiful and takes about 20 minutes.
