Overview

About the property

2000 sq. ft oceanfront cottage. 2 bedroom, 2 bath

The Cleo Beachfront is located on Patricia Bay in the Saanich Inlet, one of only 3 bodies of water like it in the world. The topography of the Bay makes it a spectacular environment for bird and marine life. Bald eagles and Great Blue Herons are seen almost daily at close range as they fly past the deck of the cottage to land in the trees at the edge of the property. In addition to being a rich feeding and resting spot for migratory birds, the bay is a destination for an assortment of marine mammals including seals, otters and harbour porpoises.

Other wildlife abounds as a result of the rural nature of the property - owls, hawks, ravens, bunnies, squirrels and the delightful quail are all frequent visitors.

The Oceanside deck provides plenty of room to relax. The property is south facing and so enjoys both sun and summer full moons.

Spend the day at the beach where summer water temperatures are warm enough to enjoy long and leisurely swims. Other water sports include kayaking or canoeing and on windy days kite boarders and wind surfers take to the water. The water is warm enough to enjoy night swims under the stars and experience the incredible bio-luminescence which will give your movements the magic of sparkling light.

The cottage has an old fashioned charm and all rooms have views of the ocean or the garden. The large master bedroom has a king size bed and windows on 3 sides to enjoy the views and fresh sea air. The second bedroom has 2 queen size beds and a view of the ocean and a bathroom is just outside the door.

The kitchen provides plenty of room for 2 or more cooks, and the open floor plan of the main living area with a large stone fireplace between them allows a warm energy to flow through and around the spaces.

North Saanich is 10 minutes from the town of Sidney and 20-30 minutes to Victoria, the capital of the province of B.C.

The Cleo beachfront is well suited to couples or couples with one or two children over 6 looking to enjoy a peaceful oceanfront vacation. Steep stairs to the beach require care in descending.

Also on the property is a small caretaker's cabin which is approximately 150 feet from the house on the driveway side to ensure the 2 acre property and summer flower gardens are maintained for your enjoyment. Your complete oceanside privacy is unaffected.

About Janice Seaker

Raised in Vancouver and a Vancouver island resident for 30 years, I have owned the Cleo Beachfront for 26 years. The property, although originally built on in 1946 has had only 2 owners.

Janice Seaker purchased this house in 1991

Why Janice Seaker chose North Saanich

Destiny. I knew I would buy this property when I was only halfway down the driveway the first time.

What makes this house unique

This property puts the cycle of life squarely in front of you. You are very close to nature here. In the spring, the birds and the bees start their dance; the herring spawn; the birds fly by with sticks and grasses as they make their nests, the frogs sing and the eagles call. In the fall, the salmon rest before heading to spawning streams. This too brings in many eagles who you may see plummeting to the ocean to catch a fish before flying into one of the trees on the property to eat it. The Canada geese start to arrive in late July or August to rest before heading north to feed. I have had personal experiences with orphaned seagulls, a heron, a raven and crows all of whom I have fed until they were ready and able to rejoin their brethren. (and an interesting fact is that they do not 'always come back' - happily, they return to the real life).

This property is very private, and is a haven away from city life. The darker skies of the rural community allow for excellent star gazing and the warm water temperatures allow for the most spectacular summer swimming - don't just dip - but get your exercise!

A private paradise

  • 5 of 5

From Janice’s warm welcome to her good bye hugs, the experience was delightful. Take a moment on entering the big, sprawling house to look around and appreciate the view and the beauty of the wood everywhere, punctuated with area carpets like your grandmother had.

The rocky beach is just steps away, down a stairway to the shore. It is the kind of beach made for exploring. Kids will love turning over the rocks and squealing at the baby crabs that come running out. Lots of clams and oysters, and it is fun to watch the seagulls dropping them. A tough way to get lunch.

There is a well stocked kitchen, all the mod cons, and once you have mastered the septic savvy behaviour you will enjoy coffee in the bright, spacious surroundingds.

The beds are comfortable, and the view from every window is breathtaking. The dog loved the bunnies, he wanted to make friends, but they were not interested.

Janice is a warm and generous host, leaving you to your privacy unless you reach out. We had a wonderful Easter dinner with her, great conversation and lots of laughs. She is also a font of information about flora and fauna and the local area.

The nights are so quiet it is almost eerie. Would love to be there at a full moon.

You won’t be taking any chances when you stay here. Three days wasn’ t long enough.

I could have stayed forever......

  • 5 of 5

Not an easy tast to keep this review short, as you most likely don’t want to read a novel when you are looking for a place to stay. The reason is; this isn’t any rental place! With only one foot in the door, I knew I would have a hard time to leave, and I was wishing 3 nights could suddenly turn into 3 weeks. This is not a house for rent, this is a true home you can have the priviledge to stay in. Don’t plan too much when you rent The Cleo Beachfront. Just being there enjoying the warm inviting and wonderful property will make you forget why you came in the first place. An ideal home for away, perfect for 2 couples (although perfect doesn’t decribe it) and great for bringing your dog! Thank you Janice for sharing!

Our family spent four nights recently at Cleo Beachfront. It's a spacious and inviting home overlooking the ocean. The views from every room in the house are wonderful. A set of steps and your down to the private beach below. A very relaxing place to be!

Beautiful slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

This property was lovely Inside and out! The views of Patricia Bay are outstanding from the spacious, charming home and the deck and outdoor living space are private and park-like leading down to the water. The kitchen was large with everything we needed to prepare meals. The dining table was spacious and comfortable. There were lots of great places to curl up and read or sit and chat. The beds were very comfortable. We took several lovely walks in the neighbourhood. This property is conveniently located only a short drive to the airport or town. Janice was very pleasant and available when needed. What a perfect getaway!

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in early September. This was by far one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. The property is incredible, inside & out. It's even better than shown in the photos. The gardens were simply beautiful, the view stunning & the very private outdoor sitting areas were just perfect. The cottage was stunning - immaculate & no detail was overlooked. It was such a pleasure to cook in the well-equipped kitchen. We loved the spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. All of the living spaces were comfortable and provided the serene & relaxing long weekend we were longing for. The property was also very conveniently located. Janice could not have been more welcoming or accommodating. She was so kind and we can't thank her enough for always being available for our many questions and inquiries. We would come back in a heartbeat! - S&S, Anchorage, AK

A Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have visited Victoria a number of times and decided to spread our wings by trying a different area. We booked 3 full weeks and experienced one of the best and most relaxing vacations ever. The location is perfect with a car, the house was very clean, the views are incredible and Janice is wonderful. She is available if needed, but allows complete privacy. We visited the rural surrounding restaurants (great bakeries and little farm markets) and sights, went into the charming town of Sidney a number of times, and found that we weren't compelled to go into Victoria but a couple of days. If you are seeking a respite from big city life -- this is the place. Oh, and our little dog loved it too. We definitely plan to return. Thank you so very much Janice.
