About the property

Our villa is located in Building C of the Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina, directly on beautiful Sapphire Beach. The villa is a two story unit occupying the 3rd and 4th floors of the building. Each bedroom has its own large screen LCD television. There is a large deck on each level with a breathtaking waterfront view. Start every day with breakfast on your deck overlooking St. John and the British Virgin Islands through the palm trees on the beach.

The villa was completely rebuilt in August 2014 and it is currently one of only 2 two bedroom villas at Sapphire Beach Resort. Everything is brand new: the kitchen, the appliances, the bathrooms, the furniture and the mattresses, the light fixtures, down to door hardware and light switches. The villa is finished in a classic elegant style with granite countertops, Italian tile, rubbed bronze lighting fixtures, paintings of Italian Lakes and Greek Islands. The first floor has a kitchen, dining and living areas with large screen LCD TV, and a full bathroom. The kitchen has a large refrigerator, a cooktop, and a convection oven / microwave combination. Also, our villa is one of very few at Sapphire Beach Resort that have a dishwasher. You might not realize what a huge plus it is until you stay in a unit without it! The second floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom. The villa sleeps 4 very comfortably. The first bedroom has a king size bed, and the second bedroom has two twin beds.

Despite its name, Sapphire Beach Resort is not a full service resort. It is a quiet condo community on a beach, which is usually not crowded. The property has a two tiered cascading waterfront swimming pool, a white sandy beach with crystal clear water, and a good snorkeling beach. Beach lounges and towels are provided for our guests. You can take a fishing, snorkeling or sailing trip to St. John or BVIs from the Marina on the property.

The villa is conveniently located at the East End of the island, less than a mile from the village of Red Hook with shopping, restaurants, and a Ferry Terminal. Passenger and car ferry to St. John leaves every half an hour. No passport is required for US citizens to visit US Virgin Islands of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. You will need one if you are planning to visit the British Virgin Islands.

Why Mila chose Estate Smith Bay

My husband and I first visited St. Thomas in 1999. We stayed at the Marriott Frenchreef hotel in a standard room for $450 per night. We ate all our meals at the hotel’s restaurant which was expensive and time consuming, but we had no alternative. We had to take a shuttle to the beach since the hotel was located on top of a hill, not on a beach. We had a nice time, but there was nothing special about it and we were not planning to return. Over the years we stayed at numerous all-inclusive resorts, but got tired of crowds there. Also, as our family grew, a hotel room became too small for us. During our last stay at all-inclusive we met a couple who told us about staying in a condo at St. Thomas and how convenient it was just to fly there and buy everything you need at familiar US stores. We decided to check it out for our next vacation. Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina was the best place to stay at Sapphire Beach since it was right on a beach with the views to die for! Two story villas were perfect for our family. We came to Sapphire Beach Resort six years ago and we loved the place! We kept coming back every year. We started thinking about buying our own place almost right away, but it took us awhile to find exactly what we were looking for. Our villa is in the Building C, which is the best one in our opinion. It is between the main beach and the pool, just steps away from both, but not directly in front of either one. The condo was in a bad shape when we bought it. It was an opportunity for us to completely rebuild it, install a dishwasher and make it into a two bedroom, something we’ve been missing all these years.

What makes this condo unique

Sapphire Beach is the best one to stay on the island. The villa has a large balcony on each floor and the views of St. John and British Virgin Islands through the palm trees on the beach are unbelievable! Our villa is brand new and one of only two 2 bedroom villas at Sapphire Beach Resort. This provides privacy and wonderful rest for all 4 people since they are all sleeping in beds with comfortable mattresses, not pull-out sofa beds.

A great place to stay in St. Thomas

I would highly recommend staying at this condo. We just got back from a 9 day /8 night trip. The entire unit has recently been updated - the kitchen and bathrooms are all very well done with high end finishes. We had extended family staying at other condos within Sapphire Beach and ours was the only one with a dishwasher. It really had everything we needed. All the mattresses were very comfortable - both of my kids are in their early 20's and slept well in the twins. The view from the balconies is just beautiful. The owner Mila is very responsive - she answered every question we had very promptly.

There is still some hurricane damage at the resort - the cabana by the pool is closed off (although the pool itself is open) and the local bar is currently under a temporary tent (still made great drinks). It did not take away from the experience in the slightest. All the staff working at Sapphire Beach were very pleasant. The beach itself was great but would definitely recommend wearing water shoes, as it is rocky along the waters edge. The snorkeling there was also very good.

The location of Sapphire Beach is another plus. It is only about 1 mile from Red Hook - where there are a lot of restaurants, bars and shopping. A couple of the restaurants remain closed due to hurricane damage but most are back and open for business. Also this is where you pick up the ferry to go over to St. Johns.

Overall, I would give this condo an A+ rating - I would definitely stay there again!

Condo great, "resort" lacking

The condo was as advertised. Newly re-done, decorated very nicely, clean and had everything we needed. The owner responded to our questions immediately when we were there. Sapphire Beach Resort is a very neglected property. The pool has a boarded up snack bar and was dirty and cloudy, not appealing at all. The beach was just ok at the " resort". I would recommend going to a better resort if you want any amenities or better kept facilities.

Amazing view right on the beach

Incredible condo and location. Condo was recently renovated and everything is top notch. Showers were the best we have ever experienced in a VRBO. Kitchen had everything you need and very modern. Two floor layout was nice (bedrooms upstairs and living area downstairs). Top floor of the condo, which made the great views even more amazing. One of the best beaches in St. Thomas is one step away from the condo. Location near Red Hook is perfect for all that you want todo in St. Thomas and makes it easy to take the ferry to St. John. Lots of dining options in Red Hook, which is only a 2 minute drive from condo. Mila was great to work with and extremely helpful with all of our questions. I would highly recommend and we will be back!

Lovely property! Everything you could want and much much more. Very very smooth transaction. The grounds are beautiful, as well as the pool! Great location and I just can't say enough ! Love love love and will be back!
