Beautiful and relaxing spot

  • 5 of 5

We needed a quiet vacation because we had been so busy and stressed for some time. This was perfect. The cabin is clean and the site is beautiful. Lots of light in the cabin made it very comfortable for reading, sewing, etc. There are several good hiking places nearby. The lake is beautiful. It was in a quiet area - there is one other cabin that is kind of close, but it was empty the week we stayed. The only thing my husband could have used was ESPN, and that's only because there was a lot of basketball on that week that wasn't on any other channel. We will definitely keep this cabin and this property owner in mind when scheduling another vacation.

Nice property

  • 4 of 5

The bad:

- The beds: All of the beds are full sized. The bed in the master bedroom is uncomfortable and extremely noisy. The bed in the front bedroom is uncomfortable and causes you to sink towards the middle.

- Master bedroom: There is no usable closet, as it's locked (contains personal items of owner). We had to fold clothes and put them in the dresser.

- Master bathroom: There is no door separating the master bath from the master bedroom. There's a frame where a door once was, but it's gone. The exhaust vent is very loud.

- The dishwasher: As we were loading the dishwasher, the inside REEKED of fish.

- Front bedroom: Had a broken ceiling fan.

- Cleaning policy: The cleaning policy contained in the binder in the cabin is a bit misleading. We still got the full deposit, but this is the first VRBO property I have rented that asked the renter to wash/dry sheets and towels. This prevented us from getting on the road as early as we would have liked.

The good:

- The owner: he seemed very willing to help the few times I called.

- Location: it was about a 10-15 minute drive to Heber Springs, and only about 100 yards to the lake itself.

- The cabin: it was very quiet and relaxing. There were plenty of towels, kitchen utensils, etc. for our stay.

Owner's Response: We are glad that the guests overall enjoyed their visit and really liked the cabin, the location as well as all the amenities that were provided. Just to confirm bed sizes, all beds in all bedrooms are queen sized. We recently replaced all mattresses and boxsprings with new semi firm Ikea mattresses including new foundations (march 2017). We checked all beds and did not notice any sagging or noise while sleeping in them. There is a door to the master bedroom, however it was removed and we found it under one of the beds. The air vent like any forced vent has a running noise comparable to other vents. As they usually only run for minutes after taking a shower to vent humidity to the outside any and all running noise should only be temporary. The ceiling fan did not work since the chain was ripped out and will need to be replaced. We always encourage our guests to check for any problems upon arrival and to let us know right away so we can take care of things. Even so we spoke with the guests several times, none of the problems they perceived were mentioned during their stay. The dish washer usually cleans itself every time it runs. I would imagine that any smell usually has to do with soiled dishes being left in there for an extended period of time without properly cleaning them off before loading into the washer. Unlike other vacation rentals, we only charge the minimum cleaning fee as part of the upfront payment. Every guest has the option to help with cleaning to keep the cleaning fee at the minimum. Stripping the beds and starting the washer helps saving time that the housekeeping company would otherwise maybe charge for. So any help by the guest to keep the property neat and tidy helps and allows us and our guests to enjoy our cabin in the future as well as today.

Top notch place! Great location! Great design...

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I looked around for a place to stay with family. This place was great! I can tell the owner has put a good bit of work into it and I was truly impressed with it. There was a breeze that ran through the property the entire time and all I could hear was the leaves and birds. My kids LOVED the swing. They are 4 and 7 and I swang them quite high. The Lake was view-able....and the marina across the lake actually was nice to see but was far away enough to not be on stage. It was nice to see boats going by too. The lights across the lake were nice for depth at night too but not too bright. There are 3 out door entertaining areas....back porch, side fire desk and a lower deck. I used the first two and fell asleep I was so relaxed one time. The design of the unit was perfect for family fun too. This unit is close to Heber springs and really close to the dam. I spent a few hours in town at a fair. All in all....I was pleased and we were all happy. I would return. Great weekend and close to Memphis for a quick trip.

Very nice and private

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic and relaxing vacation at this lovely cottage. It is fully equipped and comfortable. The walk to the lakeshore was not as bad as some of the reviews had stated. Our kids had a fantastic time and yes, the tree swing was a magnet for them.

Lovely home on the lake

  • 5 of 5

The lake house was lovely. The back deck was enjoyed almost nonstop during our stay. Bit of a hike down to the water but so worth it. The open kitchen was really nice as well. Loved being able to cook, visit, and see the outside all at the same time. Really enjoyed driving around the town. Nice park/camping area just down the road. Really great antique shop nearby. Not having internet access was a bit of a concern but we got over it. Love the new firepit/outdoor cooking area. It will be a great addition when finished. The walk way down to the lake is really nice too. Love the tent pad/seating area!

GREERS FERRY LAKE: Greers Ferry Lake is an outdoor paradise, popular for water sports, boating, cliff diving, camping, hiking, fishing, wood biking, motocross and four-wheeling. The area extends from Ozark foothills to the edge of the delta and includes two beautiful lakes, the Little Red River, some of the most beautiful caverns, springs, and waterfalls in the world as well as lots of trails for hiking, motorcycling and four-wheeling.

FISIHING: Anglers can fish for largemouth bass, white bass hybrids, walleye and trout all in the same day. Greers Ferry Lake holds the world record for walleye and hybrid striper. And the Little Red River holds the record for German brown trout. The lake and river are stocked with every game fish native to the state is stocked by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.

BOATING: The lake is 40,000 acres of deep sparkling clear water and fun. There's plenty of room so boaters, sail boaters, water-skiers, house boaters, scuba divers and the party barges seldom cross paths. Launch your boat for free 2 minutes away next to the sandy beach at the bottom of Old Highway 25 operated by the Corps of Engineers There’s no dock at the house, but you can pull up to the shore, anchor your boat and walk from the boat to the house throughout your stay. The path up to the house is gently sloped and easily walkable.

NATURE TRAILS: Nature trails abound. In fact all you have to do is walk down to the lake and follow the shoreline for the easiest most enjoyable hike. There are developed trails all over the area and an especially nice one winding up Sugar Loaf Mountain, an island in the lake west of the house, which affords breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding countryside from its summit which is 500 feet above the surface area of the lake.

BLANCHARD CAVERN SPRINGS: Breathtaking caverns and gorgeous springs and waterfalls are about an hour's drive north. Take a tour of the cave to beat the heat in the summer. The cave stays a comfortable 58 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. The cave is often called the “living cave” because its constantly changing and growing. The main room is the size of three football fields and has a 100 foot ceiling. Be sure to check out the springs and waterfalls while you are there.

BRIDAL VEIL WATER FALLS: An hour southeast are some of the prettiest waterfalls in the area. Bridal Veil Falls are named for their similarity to a bride's veil. So, don't fret if the rain keeps you from boating. Just hop in your car and check out these gems. You can park so close that you can be at the top of the falls within a couple minutes and reach the bottom a few minutes later. If you like to rock hop, follow the stream south and take a left at the first fork to find the second set of falls.

BUFFALO RIVER: 1 1/2 hour northwest is the best canoeing, kayaking, and floating in the region. The Buffalo river is simply unsurpassed in beauty. The completely pristine natural (undammed) river runs 150 miles past 500 foot tall sandstone and limestone bluffs. Almost all of it is managed by the National Park Service. You can rent a float or canoe at any outfitters and experience the most relaxing day of your life. Buffalo River Outfitters on Hwy 65

GOLF: The golf courses are gorgeous and challenging. Tannenbaum Resort Golf, Mountain Ranch Golf Course , Lost Creek Golf Club, Indian Hills Golf Club , Red Apple Inn Golf Club

FLEA MARKET AND ANTIQUE STORES: If you like antiquing and flea markets you will be in heaven. There are dozens of shops to discover literally in any direction you choose to drive. Of course, Hwy 65 between Branson and Conway offers the most popular spots, but don't miss my favorite - Tumbling Shoals Flea Market near Heber Springs. Open every day but Tuesday, only 5 minutes from the cabin.

RESTAURANTS: Good selection of family type dining 10 to 15 minutes away in Heber Springs. Upscale dining at Red Apple Inn on Eden Isle. Jansens on the lake can be reach by boat after a nice ride across the lake. Weekend brunch there is our favorite

HORSE BACK RIDING: Red River Riding Stables are 30 minutes away from the house toward Fairfield Bay. The owner is Steve Swenson. Steve built the huge old fashioned stables. They offer guided 45 and 90 minute trail rides overlooking the Little Red River.

CARDBOARD BOAT RACES The world championship cardboard boat races are held on Sandy Beach Greers Ferry Lake in Heber Springs the weekend of July 28th. This event is a blast. The boats are creative, funny, and amazing.
