Terrific spot at the edge of the historic Garden District with room to relax

This very big apartment (1600 sq. ft.) has a wide front porch on a lovely residential block of Magazine Street, with loads of great shops, restaurants, bars and boutiques in easy walking distance in either direction. The French Quarter is easy to reach, just a quick car or bus ride straight downtown. We also have a pair of cruiser bicycles that you're free to ride.

The location can't be beat for being close to downtown but not in the thick of it. Commander's Palace and Lafayette Cemetery are blocks away. The house also is just a five-block walk past the historic mansions of the Garden District to the St.Charles Avenue streetcar and Mardi Gras parades.

The apartment is half of a big, 1915 double (two stories, not a shotgun). It's fully independent and well-stocked. The kitchen is equipped with oven, dishwasher, coffee-maker, blender, toaster, and a washer/drier. The two bedrooms upstairs are separated by a hallway and bathroom with clawfoot tub/shower. There's a queen bed in one bedroom and a full bed (fine for two) in the other bedroom. For additional guests we have a good full-size air mattress and a sofa bed. Also a Pack 'N Play for families with young children.

It's a quiet block at night. The nearest bar, Tracey's, is two blocks up the street. The front porch is great for relaxing and people watching.

A shanty-style covered area in the back yard is yours to enjoy, with charcoal and gas grills and a cedar fence for privacy.

We live in the other half of the house (the walls are thick) and will stay well out of your way, but we're always happy to share our local knowledge on all things New Orleans. The apartment has wireless internet and streaming Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. and local TV stations on a 48" flat screen. All linens and essentials (soap, shampoo, coffee, etc.) are provided.

The house is just two miles from the French Quarter. It's a 12-minute bus ride to Canal Street, an even shorter cab or Uber ride, or a long walk through the Lower Garden District, past the National World War II Museum and the Arts/Warehouse District. The Morial Convention Center is a little more than a mile from the house and easily accessible.
