About this property

Exclusive Beach Community Minutes from Cedar Point Park/ Sports Center, Kalahari

Welcome to the hibiscus House.

The basic description of our offering is a quaint cottage in a lake side community on the shores of Lake Erie. We have a community private beach access with a walkable high bank perch just a 2 min slow walk from the front door. Located 15 minutes from Cedar Point, Kalahari, and even closer to Cedar Point Sports Center. There are two bedrooms that are equipped to be comfortable for sleeping and an adequate living space for hanging out. There is a fully functional and stocked kitchen with amenities that will save you time and money. A front patio perfect for grilling a meal, reading a book, or enjoying a game with family. If you packed light, no worries there is an in house laundry facility.

That would pretty much sum it up. If you are just looking for another place along the lake with reasonable access to the local attractions, the Hibiscus house is indeed that. But if you are looking for a more in depth and personal experience, then please read on.

The Hibiscus house is somewhere between accidental and a planned that came sooner than expected endeavor. I (Dwight) was caring for my father who had dementia when it became evident that the house had some issues that needed addressed immediately. What started as a plan to just address those issues became an opportunity to just fix it right the first time. Dad had been pretty successful before his diagnosis and there was a kitty for us to do the remodel right. Both Kristy and I are travelers and have stayed in vacation homes. We imagined all the good and bad experiences we have had and thought about what would make the ideal space. Location was already a given, so we needed only to make sure we did a good job of setting up the house itself.

The first and most obvious is that I am a coffee snob and Kristy a tea drinker. So we set up a cart with the multiple options and ways to enjoy both. I am a sailor, I have spent many hours in small spaces designed to feel “big”. So designing a space that fits the bill was as easy as a Sunday sail. Adding a laundry facility for busy week stays with lots of beach time was clearly going to have to be part of that design.

Beyond the physical aspects of the Hibiscus House, there is the intended character. I come from a large extended family and value that very much. Dad and Mom would take me and my 2 siblings on family vacations to the East Coast every year. In my adulthood I cherish and get emotional when I think back on our time. I wanted the space to be inviting to family time. The bedrooms are small. (Though gone are the days where a TV was the only screen in the house.) We wanted people to congregate in the main room, sit at the counter while dinner is made or breakfast is served. The game selection is designed to invite families and friends to “play”. I have even included a “Raspberry Pi” game emulator with classics many of you will recognize from your childhood. I can tell you that every minute on a vacation is a chance to make a memory that lasts a lifetime. Something they will talk about decades later.

Nice little getaway
Very nice and clean little house. Great location! Would have rather been given the door code versus having to announce our arrival and meet the owner but that’s just our preference and what we are used to.

Fishing trip
We went fishing with Gary King aka:The hawg rustler! We caught a bunch of hood Walleye and some white perch and a huge catfish. The air b&b was above all our expectations and very clean and well equipped with any and everything you could need down to spices for cooking and extra hygiene items in case you left something behind when packing. The owners were very nice and friendly and did an awesome job. We will return to this air b&b in the future for sure.

We love Hibiscus House!!
Sister and I spent 4 nights at the beautiful Hibiscus House. Very clean. Very warm and inviting, such a relaxing home away from home for us. We don't cook when we are on vacation, but anything we would have needed was in the well appointed kitchen. The beds were comfortable, bedding cool blues and greens...very lake feeling! Roku TV available. Dwight and Kristy are wonderful hosts. Very quick to answer any questions I had. We were surprised with a nice bottle of local wine. Located in a nice, quiet neighborhood, everyone we met were very friendly. We spent the majority of our time down on the lake shore, which is just a few minutes walk from the house. Plenty of beach items are provided, including beach towels. We did use the beach cart and chairs that are in the building behind the house. We like to be on the sand near (and in) the water, so we didn't go out much, but Dwight did leave a note suggesting places to visit. We enjoyed our time spent at Hibiscus House so much we checked the 2024 calendar while we were still there. A very popular destination, it looks like we will have to look into 2025!! We loved it here, and look forward to a future stay at the Hibiscus house!!! Thank you Dwight & Kristy!!!!

Comfortable home close to many attractions
Our family stayed at Hibiscus House for 6 days. The house has all the amenities to make you feel at home. The hosts make sure their guests have everything they need to have a wonderful stay. They are very generous and thoughtful in ensuring that their guests are comfortable. Hibiscus House is close to many interesting and fun places (e.g. Cedar Point Park, African Wildlife Safari, Bass Island). We also went to Detroit and Cleveland. I highly recommend Hibiscus House and would love to come back.

We will update this later.

Why they chose this property

Along with the location, we are happy to offer access to sporting equipment. From basketballs and tennis rackets for the local courts to fishing poles, kayaks, and sailing dinghy's. I am a skilled sailor willing to provide lessons for those who wish to engage in experiencing a challenging and fun new sport. In the future we at Offshore Breeze hope to have our own big boat to offer. Sunset cruises, island adventures, dinner sail to one of the riverside restaurants. Before having to dedicate my time to dad, I used to take enjoyment and pride in taking people who had little to no experience out to for a sunset sail. Most of them are still thankful year later.

So please, come and let us enable you to make lasting memories. Come for the local attractions, but stay with us for a unique and unforgettable experience that will inspire dreams and draw your family or friends group tighter together. Elevate your vacation to a true adventure.

What makes this property unique

Access to the private beach. Walking distance to two pubs. Options for sailing, diving (There is a dive shop about 20 minutes away. ) , and fishing adventures at discount rates. less than a half hour from a small boat Marina. We are still working out the details as this is new. There are 3 golf course near by. If you are a avid golfer there are some very unique and reputable ones for a small drive cost. Maumee Bay has once of the few Scottish Links style course in the area.

We are accepting dogs with responsible humans up to 20lbs for a small fee of $100. We too are dog parents and understand how much comfort (not to mention value) there is in traveling with our 4 legged companions.

So Please give us a chance to make more than a vacation, make a memory that you and your party will treasure for a lifetime. We have been guests many times, we know what we liked and didn't like. We are going to bring that wisdom to our guests.
