About Stan and Diana Butts

Owners Stan and Diana Butts grew up in the scenic Possum Run Valley. Upon graduation we traveled separate paths until 2002. Our reunion was a little crazy, but to make a long story short, we married in 2005 at nearby Malabar Farm.

We love gardening with a large plot near the house; sweet corn and pumpkins are grown in the back. Abundant produce means canning and freezing, which we enjoy doing together.

Stan is a Master Gardener from Williamsburg, Virginia and teaches gardening at a local greenhouse. He has also taught wine appreciation over the years.

Diana has been involved with the Miss Ohio Scholarship program, and served on numerous local civic boards. She received an award from Governor Celeste for her work in child safety.

Our love of gardening, cooking, wine and entertaining slowly evolved into Valleyview Country Getaway. We love this beautiful area and enjoy sharing our everyday country experiences with others. Please join us soon! We know you will fall in love with this land and farmhouse in the same way we have and the many that have passed this way before us.

Stan and Diana Butts purchased this house in 1958

Why Stan and Diana Butts chose Mansfield

Fifty five years ago Diana’s parents were looking at property in the area. All of their lives had been lived in the city. They didn’t want a working farm, but a place to roam and play. Dad saw a ‘For Sale’ sign, and after just one extended visit they knew this was the place where they wanted to be.

In 1976 Diana’s Dad built her a house on the property where both of her sons were raised. After Mom and Dad passed away we decided to share this wonderful place with as many people as we could.

This property reflects the true essence of our lives. It is hard to look out at the constantly changing scenery and not be aware of the many blessing both large and small that have been given to us. We are located in the center of vast cultural and recreational opportunities, and yet can retreat back to the farm to keep ourselves grounded in our humanity.

Sharing these wonderful experiences with others gives us immense pleasure and maybe a lifetime experience for our guests.

What makes this house unique

We are in the middle of everything and the center of nowhere! We are only 11 miles from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, 10 miles from the Ohio State Reformatory, 1/4 mile from Snow Trails Ski Resort, and just over the hill from Malabar Farm. Full speed ahead creating your own personal adventure from the unlimited year round activities, but slow the pace when you come ‘home’.

To rise in the morning and share that first cup of coffee with nature is tranquility at its best. An evening meal cooked on the gas grill, watching the sunset, a favorite beverage around a campfire, sharing a tall tale or just listening to the sounds of the night is living at its simple best. The luxurious beds are sure to provide a restful and refreshing night’s sleep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for a warm welcome. The house better than we ever expected!!! Our smallest member of the family (3 yrs. old) said she wanted to spend a whole summer in this house. I never wanted to leave. LOL We all loved the brownies! The house was at a perfect temperature at all times. We could tell that you wanted us to feel as comfortable as possible & enjoy our stay. It was that personal touch that makes a difference. We will definitely all come back again.

XOXOXO

The Roslikov Family

Happy New 2014 Year!!!

P.S. The beds were super comfortable!! We had the best sleep!!

The perfect "country home" -

  • 5 of 5

We were greeting by the lovely Diane and Stan with great ideas for visiting places around the area. The home is an original log cabin with some beautiful remaining features. We took a hike through the well groomed trails - spotted some deer and enjoyed the fresh air. Hoping to return in the summer and make use of the amazing fire pit.

Very nice a well kept property!

  • 4 of 5

Stan and Diana set the tone but taking interest in the people that are renting their place. Everything was clean and well kept and made for a nice weekend stay. Place accomodates 8 people which is the number we had, and we did not feel as if the place was too small. If you are looking for a nice comfortable place that gets you away from the hassle of everyday life, you will appreciate this place and what the area offers.

Great

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful experience. Great place to get away from everything, and we did not even get to enjoy all the amenities. The owners were so nice and pleasant and had a wealth of information to share with our family; all their recommendations were spot on. The home was clean, had games to play with the kids and 50 acres to explore, run around in and enjoy. It was blanketed with snow and so beautiful (we're from Florida). The ski lifts were also about a 1/4 mile away.

Again nice town, and wonderful home with great owners.

Owner's Response: Your visit brought smiles to our faces and hearts. Seeing your family laughing and enjoying the fresh snow while playing a little Nerf football was delightful. Ohio provided you a prime example of winter with 10º days and -5º below nights with a little of the white stuff thrown in. Valleyview is all about creating memorable moments while disconnecting from the breathtaking pace of everyday living. Family game nights are always fun. You have a wonderful and well-mannered family, whose respect for the house was evident. Maybe plan a summer visit to experience other Mansfield attractions such as Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course or the Ohio State Reformatory to name a few. Hope to see you soon!

Great folks and a great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our 9 days at the house and would love to go back. Peaceful environment and relaxing location.

I would recommend this place to others and close to the mid-ohio race track facility

Owner's Response: Racing teams are always special people. The SCCA Runoffs provide an extended week of testing, qualifying, and finally racing for the national title. Valleyview provides the perfect escape from the day’s activities to enjoy a little peace and quiet and a good night’s rest. We were glad some hiked our mowed trails and others visited nearby Amish Country for an afternoon. Your young son is a precious individual and well behaved. We enjoyed your visit! Return when schedules allow and maybe stay an extra day to visit other local attractions.

Owner's Response: It was great having you return to Valleyview for your annual guy’s getaway. It is always a good thing when friends can get together to share stories and catch up on the recent happenings in your lives. It was great that you could relax together on the covered back porch and watch the wild turkeys during the brief rain shower. Thanks again for being such great guests. See you next year!

Car: necessary

The Mansfield and Loudonville areas are the heart of unlimited year round activities. Your adventure can range from wild to mild!

If you have a need for speed, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course may have your ticket. A premier motor sports destination and world class facility, that brings a wide range of racing interests to the area including: The Vintage Grand Prix, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, Superbike Weekend, The Honda Indy 200, and The NASCAR Nationwide 200. If you would rather ‘do’ than watch, Mid-Ohio Driving School puts ‘you’ in the driver’s seat.

How about going to Jail? Experience prison from the inside out at the historic Ohio State Reformatory. Various tours of the facility give you an insider’s perspective of life as a convicted criminal. Hollywood immortalized it as shooting locations for several movies including the classic Shawshank Redemption. The giant oak tree where Andy buried a secret stash for his prison pal Red, is located within walking distance from Malabar Farm.

A visit to the area would not be complete without a stop at the Pleasant Valley home of Pulitzer Prize winning author and conservationist Louis Bromfield. A tour of Malabar, an operating farm complete with the requisite animals and crops, is an opportunity to see firsthand the forward looking vision of its founder. No visit would be complete without a tour of the 32 room ‘Big House’ where many Hollywood celebrities were hosted, and notably the marriage of Bogie and Bacall. A must do drive up the winding lane to the top of Mt. Jeez would cap your visit.

Just down the road from Valleyview is the town of Loudonville, the ‘Canoe Capital of Ohio’. There are six canoe liveries to choose from and trips of various lengths to suit your skills and abilities. If paddling is not your interest jump in a tube and let the river do the work. This area also includes miniature golf, go-karting, zip-lining, and mountain biking trails.

Other adventures might include a day hike at Mohican State Forest, skiing and tubing at Snow Trails or Clear Fork Ski resorts, a round of golf at nearby public courses such as The Woods at Possum Run, Deer Ridge, or Pleasant Hill, or a bike ride/walk on the 18.5 mile B & O Bike Trail (rentals are available).
