Beautiful view and interesting location
The house is situated in the middle of pristine jungle/forest/hills and took us about 40 min to arrive to from the main road near Lucea, due to road conditions and us having a basic rental car. Next time I would try using a 4x4, Jeep, etc., to move faster if the commute time to the coast was an issue. The view and sunrise is nothing short of incredible, however, looking out over the hills and jungle, to the sea. It's very peaceful. There is not much to "do", so this is a good retreat if you are looking for a total get-away from touristy spots and you don't mind spending your day roaming/at the beach and then making sure to get back before dark (we felt totally safe but with roads alongside steep ravines, we didn't feel familiar enough with the area to drive at night). All the people living in Retrieve who we passed were very friendly and kind. There is no close place to buy groceries/provisions (aside from basics like eggs, bread, water at small roadside shops), so we would plan on picking up everything we needed at Cherie's in Lucea. The host Eloise was extremely communicative and responsive to all our questions and needs.

Amazing
The property is located in the country side right off of the main road. The house itself is very warm and inviting, though it is not an open floor plan; the space felt very large and open. The rooms are very big with bathrooms to match. Each room has access to a balcony that looked down onto a very lush valley and out to the ocean. Overall I would recommend this location to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle of the city. There is ample street and secured parking if you need it. There is a grounds keeper available should you need help with anything. Over all it was a beautiful home and I would rent the space again.

Perfect getaway
This really is a beautiful and well equipped house. The top and first floor balconies look out over the tree-tops into a lushly vegetated valley, one end of which ends at the Caribbean Sea. With a little patience you will see humming birds, parrots, parakeets, turkey vultures (called John Crows locally) and many more species. all from the balcony. The perfect place to drink your morning coffee. There are mangoes (just out of arms reach) and a breadfruit tree beside the house along with fruit trees I've never heard of before. Every bedroom had a full bathroom en suite and an extra bathroom on the first floor in the living area. We (2 Adults and 3 teenage boys)had the place to ourselves as a holiday let but I understand from the owner it could be used as a bed and breakfast. A decent internet access was provided. The house keeper lives on site in a separate building and was always helpful but never intrusive. This would suit very well either two couples or a family of six or less. There is air-con fitted although we never used it. The house is sat beside a quite road and is about 20 minutes from the main coast road and another 10 minutes to a usable small beach for swimming or sunbathing, the locals call it the Steamer beach as the remains of a shipwreck are still visible. There are a few other beaches but if you are looking for a fully "manicured" one then its probably best going to somewhere like Negril. The road up to the house is a little potholed in places but still drivable, I'm told it will be repaired soon. For eating out then Lucea is the nearest place we used, we used Lucea for shopping also. If you wanted something a little more upmarket then probably better to look for something nearer Montego Bay. If you want a break away from tourist hot spots then this will definitely be worth considering. The owners are very amenable (they let us change our dates quite late with no charge whatsoever). The whole family fully recommends it.

I am from Jamaica, and my husband is from from New York; we have our permanent home in the United States. We have been married for 16 wonderful years, with three children.

Why they chose this property

I was born and raised on this same property, but I left there at the age of sixteen. As soon as my husband went to Jamaica and saw the beauty of the place, he immediately fell in love with it. My father died in 2006 and shortly after he died, my husband and my brother started to build this dream home that we call our home away from home when we visit the island.
I pray that you enjoy the property the same way as we do!

Good Luck!!
