Sapelo Island is a pristine barrier island about the size of Manhattan with 70 people living on it. Abundant wildlife and few people make this a very special place. The Georgia Marine Inst. and the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve are great places to visit and learn about marine life. The reynolds Mansion on Sapelo Island is a great trip back into the era of the great millionaires. An old indian shell ring city dating back to the Great Pyramids of Egypt can be seen. The Geechee village of Hog Hammock is your base and where the adventure begins. One of the oldest general stores in Georgia has been rebuilt and is your home and also a museum. Many miles of unspoiled beaches and miles of pristine maritime forrest are waiting to be discovered. rent a golf car or bike and see parts of the island. Get a private tour and see the north end of the island.
